I’ve already gone off about him in this thread, but I do think he’d be a decent acquisition (as a value purchase).
I said if you could only have one of James or Rodon, it should be the latter. I love James and he talented (also done better than I thought he would at United) but I’m not really sure if his skill set is suited to a team like Manchester United (Atm). He’s electric but a lot more limited when space is hard to find. It’s tricky playing for a team like Man Utd because a lot of the teams are going to sit back and give no room. James is obviously going to improve on his ability on tighter spaces, but he shows more when a team gives him that room to run into and can be really devastating. He’s a great squad option and a valuable player to have for tactical reasons though.
Rodon is designed for a big club. He’s had very little experience, and his form has dipped up and down, but he’s a valuable CB. He’s very comfortable on the ball (can look a little awkward at times with his height) and he’s a good passer. What makes him valuable in my eyes is that he’s very good at bringing the ball out and avoiding that high press. He’s strong and is pretty good at shrugging off players and putting the ball into the midfield. Add in that he’s good in the air and you’ve got an interesting prospect. He’s 22 but he’s barely played a full season of football, like James it’s about the hope that they can round off their attributes and take a step up.
There’s a fair few CB’s in the championship who are better than Rodon, and a couple who offer what he does while having more experience and better form so going for him is a gamble. I’d stake my money though
