I never understand why people still take it so personally when players run down contracts. Its obviously not an easy decision for Jesse. He will likely have more options for his next club and be in a better position on wage demands if he runs his contract down. The flipside to that decision is that he is likely to lose another year of his career with limited football.
The point is though he was offered a contract and he will fulfil that agreement. Same with Pogba. We can argue all day about whether the club got full value for that contract, but that's the clubs responsibility and we don't know most of the facts here. Its just a shame that we didn't receive a reasonable offer that worked for all parties over the summer because he was a player I thought we'd have no trouble selling. He'd improve a lot of PL teams.

I can only assume they threw a contract extension at him with some reduced wages or something to "retain sales value" and the odd chance he plays 10+ games. No idea why cause we couldn't sell him when his stock is the highest it's been in 2-3 years.

Based on his recent form and he comes in for Bruno whenever we have spare minutes. Many people cited the overplaying of Bruno as some of the reasons for some of his poor performances, here we have a guy who can take the load of him in that position. Obviously in his ideal world he's playing for United and England. He's going to try that out for the first half of the season, if it fails he look for other options. If his minutes are extremely limited by Jan id bet every dollar he's gonna be gone.

I wish he’d have just signed West Ham and the club got £25m to reinforce but as it stands we won’t get that £25m and need to buy again.

Will he get chances? I mean we have Rashford, Sancho, Greenwood, Martial, Ronaldo, Bruno, Cavani, Pogba for attack, so few of these players won't play regularly in PL which means they will play in cup games.
You can’t force a player to play for a different club that he doesn’t want too. He didn’t want to play for WH and nobody else bid. United offered a contract (bizarre) and he turned it down because he wants to see what time he gets on the pitch first. If it doesn’t work out, then her gets to choose on his terms where he goes without a restrictive price point. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that.

As for Lingard, I have nothing against him. But the club, a well-run club, would've sold him in the summer. Ole should've said that he wouldn't play much and that he should leave for his own sake. If he still wouldn't accept going to West Ham, then United would've done everything they could. But now, just another massive financial loss.
We were never going to get what United thought, 25m. He is almost out of contract. Hence why we had no other offers or even sniffs at that price. He’s been overpriced by the club and some of the fans who thought they’d have 25m back into the pot for a shiny new toy

I agree with you. But that just highlights their disinterest in United. They target a dividend of about £20m a season and, as long as that appears, they couldn't care less.
A more interested ownership, even if the interest was just in squeezing value out of the club, would run United a lot differently. Maybe better from some perspectives, maybe worse from others. However, the way the Glazers do it is almost like an absentee landlord who's decided you can spend on the workers that keep the estate going but you can't buy new tools, new sheds etc.
So they basically say: Player costs, yeah you need players to maintain the brand. Fine. Spend. But try convincing them to invest in the stadium, in Carrington. Well we've seen over the past 16 years. There's no interest. So we end up with ballooning player costs, a lot of which is dead weight. But they, mentally, have just written off. Whereas the turnstiles and toilets at Old Trafford have been allowed to rot for years and they couldn't give a damn.
It is bizarre. Because you could save a bit of money on some unneeded players and then really do up Carrington, you could get to something like City's Etihad campus and not even touch the Glazer dividend. But they just don't see the value in that. They're just not interested.
If the club was well-run we wouldn't even have players running into the last year of their deal's playing for us. When a player hits three years out, the club would make a decision: Will we renew this guy's contract or look to sell. The fact we're in a position where a number of players, not just Lingard, effectively have all the leverage because of their contract length shows how bad our football operation has been.
I just hope the club learns from this.

I'm not sure how much truth there is in it, but if he did turn down a move to West Ham then there's a clear contradiction between his actions and reported reasoning for him turning down the contract, which is due to playing time. Unless he expects to be a regular player at a CL club maybe.
In my mind the most likely scenario is that we've offered a less lucrative contract than he's been on previously, and he expects to be able to make more elsewhere.
Still, he'll get a chance to stake a claim this season, as he'll be brought in when we need his fitness and work rate.

What you mean by telling the player and the club he can go for 2m then changing it to 7m at the last minute.

If that was the case the Jesse played for Chelsea he'd have been sold, why do Chelsea still have so many experienced pros out on loan who they've wanted sold? Lingard is not Abraham. There's a difference in age which means a difference in options for transfers.
