I bet you they will bid at the very end with about 15m to get a cheap deal.
They expect 100m for Rice, but can't pay 25m for a player that worked so well for them.
I thought Lingard would sit out his deal and head to West Ham on a free or we’d panic and give him a new deal but maybe he actually cares about playing and thinks the club should get a fee for him? Hopefully. Anything around £20 million would be good business for both parties

Lot of noise for some time now about West Ham being broke and essentially having no real budget to work with in this window despite finishing sixth and this was rather confirmed by their low offer for Sam Johnstone. We need to decide if keeping Jesse to play a few minutes here and there and some Carabao matches before he leaves for free is better than saving the 100k a week in salary and taking a bargain fee of 8-10m to let him get a fresh start. I would take the latter option personally and give his minutes to Hannibal but this being Utd they will probably choose surprise option 3 and extend his contract.

25m really isn't a lot for Lingard, West Ham are being pathetically cheap.
£25m is really fair price, but given the market I would settle for £18m plus add ons to make it around £22.5m
If West Ham insist on 18 million or less than 20 million pounds, then we'll bundle PJ4 along.

With less than 12 months left on his contract, you can't blame a team wanting to pay less or waiting for his contract to expire. £15-20m and we should bite their hand off.
Neither are West Ham. Who's to say he'd sign for them when he becomes a free agent? West Ham aren't Real Madrid, I'm sure there'll be plenty of suitors both home and abroad who'd be interested in him, some likely more prestigious than West Ham.
I'm glad the club is holding firm on the asking price, we've been lowballed too often in the past and we seem to accept it. Look at how much Chelsea get for their rejects. West Ham can pay the asking price of £25million, or they can feck off and pray he picks them over a host of other clubs next summer.

People keep saying that but we signed same-aged Varane, who was also on the last year of his contract, for around £34m. In that light £25m does sound like a lot.
One of them is considered one of the top 5-6 CBs on the planet. A WC winner, 3x CL winner and 3xLa Liga winner. The other one is a #10 who's had 6 good months last season and 1 good year under Mourinho in 17/18, while the rest of his career he's been a mediocre bench player at best.
Personally I would lower demands and accept something in the region of £15-20m for him. You also save another £5m on top, on his salaries (he is on £100k). We couldn't even make minutes for VDB last season and we've also signed Sancho, so how much time will Lingard get anyway? Because if he's kept to play only 1000-1500 mins through the season, we're talking a million for every hour of football. Surely we're better saving that and putting it towards another transfer.

I know Lingard has become a meme here that everyone wants to get rid of, but he's objectively worth a lot more than £15million in this day and age, even with a year left on his contract. We shouldn't just accept any bid they throw at us.
I'm assuming a lot here want to see him gone for the quoted small amounts because it helps us buy a midfielder - what makes you think £10-15million gets us Camavinga or Neves? As for getting him off the wage bill - he'll be gone next summer anyway, the club isn't going to be dramatically better off financially, nor will it help us prepare a package for someone like Cristiano Ronaldo this summer just because we managed to get Lingard off the books.

All in all, in a market where Aaron Ramsdale can go for 24m, Ben White 50m and Tammy Abraham went for 40m, asking for 25m for Lingard isn’t unreasonable. I think we should be flexible though and ask for sth like 20m upfront and 5-6m addons tied to easily achievable goals like appearances.
What you mentioned are all true, except the fact that as of now West Ham is unwilling to pay for it. It will drag on till the last day of the transfer window.

Those are three 23 year olds, with upside potential, who aren't on the last year of their contracts. The first two are also moved "up" (implied higher fees than when heading in the opposite direction, due to salary situation). Those don't apply to Lingard who's 28, on his final year and about to move "down". The Varane comparison was far more apt imo.
Take whatever we can get - it's better than paying him to sit on a bench for the next 35 weeks.

Joe Willock also went for 25m after a similar loan stint/performance like Lingard, and he has achieved far less in the game.
I think it will work out by the end. The two clubs are negotiating, the player wants to move, if we have to structure the payment plans into more installments or add ons, we will do it. There’s no sense however in ceding our ground too early, when it’s the buying club who will be under more and more pressure as the window ends.
Well there is ultimately only one "objective" measure of player's value - the actual price that someone pays for him. I am sure that we would use arguments similar to yours in the negotiations - but at the moment it does not seem like there is a bidding war for him.
From the perspective of a buying club - he is 29, there can be no guarantee that he replicates his form (especially as he does not really have a record of consistent consecutive strong seasons in his career and before the loan he was bad for us), likely has significant wage demands. Apart from the very top clubs and clubs with rich owners - others do not have a very strong financial position in (post) covid times. You mentioned Chelsea rejects but they tend to (a) be younger and (b) be on long term contracts (c) have less wages - all value-increasing factors.
25m (plus a significant wage package) looks like a big risk for the reasons mentioned above. If we get that from someone, then fair play, but accepting 10-15m on or near deadline day would totally make sense as we have more than enough players in his position and really do not need him even as a squad player.
Another 21yo with upside potential though. You could sell Joe Willock in 5 years and get that money back, or a lot more if he turns good.
Lingard's value in 5 years is 0 however those 5 years pan out. It's 0 in 12 months as well.

Willock has potential to improve due to his young age Lingard doesn't. Not to mention he had a contract till 2023 while Lingard's expires in less than 12 months.
