Jesse Lingard 'to leave on a free'

Scholes suggesting Jesse could sign a new deal

Scholes suggesting he might stay if given the chance by the new manager - which is obvious.

Your post suggests that there is a new deal for him to sign - no mention of a new deal in that article - at all.
Its the other way around

" He is out of contract in the summer and looks likely to make a permanent exit from Old Trafford."

Thats more like it

Stay? They should fine him for the leak to Scholes and make him train with the U23s or Maguire, whichever is considered more humiliating

Lingard dancing around and living the big life over last few years are all that is wrong with club. More interested in social media than football. Get him gone.

If he stays, I will lose all hope in this club. He is the one player I most want to see feck right off. To me, he is the ultimate symbol of both this horrible banter era of the club, and the mismanagement at the top level.

Please go, Jesse. Please.

The only good thing Scholes did as a pundit is exposing who the mole in our dressing room. Thank you Scholsey.

Now Lingard can go out. I don't want a guy who goes to media everytime we have a challenge.

Lingard will leave but misses the chance to show him self on pitch. Good Scholes outed him as a talking snitch

No chance he stays - several Premier League clubs will be likely to give him a big signing-on fee on a free, West Ham and Newcastle being the obvious ones but I wouldn't rule-out Spurs since it feels like a move Levy could make; no chance United give him enough to compensate for that.

He won't stay - almost 100% sure.

I have it on good authority ten Hag is a big fan of JLingz brand clothing and aftershave and is willing to guarantee Lingard an automatic starting place in exchange for a lifetime discount on all JLingz products.

I don't understand why when West Ham wanted to offer us £££ for him in the summer we turned them down.

He's done f*ck all this season for us.

Lots of nonsense posted on that at the time. Showing that we're not going to sell on the cheap was one argument, as if letting Lingard go on a free means clubs will offer more for other players.

Because our previous manager wanted to keep him and never use him. Just like buying VdB for 40m and playing him 5 minutes per month.

people here insisted he was worth £40m . My suspicion is we tried to hold out for too much for a shit player with a year on his contract and then west ham signed vlasic for £27m and there were no other suitors. The whole ‘we want him’ shite was a ploy that was meant to raise his value but backfired.

Yep that was the most likely what happened, I have a feeling United enquired about Rice last summer and when West Ham said they wanted £100m United probably said well in that case we want £35-40m for Lingard.

If Ten Hag decided that Lingard should stay because he is "useful" he should be sacked on the spot. I struggle to understand how a progressive brand of football can accommodate a player like Lingard who 90% of the time is a total coward on the ball.

If he resigns it will be at the request of Ten Hag and it will be because unlike the rest of our forwards Jesse will run, press and put a shift in.

What people forget is that LVG and Mourinho valued Lingard highly, as did Moyes and Southgate. It was only really Ole that didn't but he valued 'individual brilliance' over team ethic.

Scholes trying to give his snitch some good PR after throwing him under a double decker bus. Nice.

This is actually fake.

In 18/19 after Ole took over Lingard started 10/15 PL games
In 19/20 until we signed Bruno he was playing in every game and had 0 goals 0 assists.

Is it so hard to do this?

If Ten Hag decided that Lingard should stay because he is "useful".....

This might happen, Lingard's game of pass and move and running in between the lines is exactly what ETH looks for (maybe not Lingard himself, but that style of play).

Can see disappointment from day 1 for some fans.... oh dear!

Who would he play ahead of for Ole and whose individual brilliance should have been benched in his favor? Bruno in the #10 slot? Rashford or Greenwood in the wide areas?

We went through half a season with Lingard, Mata and Pereira as our #10s and had a dismal run until Bruno saved us from January.

He played a lot under Ole. He was awful and half the caf wanted him dropped.

Fair enough. Looks like all managers liked him. It is easy to see why Ten Hag might want to retain him though. Especially when you consider how poor our forwards are at pressing.

Like a turd that won’t flush. He’ll be 30 in December, it’s astonishing he’s spent the majority of his career here.

Dammit, I thought this was a new thread and got excited at the title. And then I come in here and it's filled with depressing shit.

I really hope he leaves and think it would actually do him a world of good too.

He might still get some joy out of the sport if he plays for a team more suited to his level. He's never been a good PL player, let alone a great one. Then again very very few players ever are and it's quite possible to live a nice life outside of the top 6. Even on a personal level I think he'd benefit from being in the spotlight less (even if he'd disagree with that).

Please go.

I think the reason Lingard was liked by all these managers is his energy and running on and off the ball.

We don't really have forwards that track and press as well as Lingard. However; I think his time at United is up and we will look to use other players,.

What utter rubbish gets posted here about Lingard and last summer's public announcement that we wanted to keep him.

Few basics:
1. You get offered less money for players you say you want to sell.
2. He was a 28 year old with a history of going long periods in dreadful form. Clubs were clearly not interested in the risk of an expensive deal that took him to 32/33 years old.
3. If he wanted to leave then he could have handed in a transfer request. This would have lowered what United were happy to accept as they wouldn't have to pay the balance on his contract.

We'll have to see where he ends up, and what he achieves when he gets there. I wouldn't be surprised if West Ham decide against signing him, a permanent transfer is a different prospect to a six month loan, just as Newcastle's January interest confirmed.
