Leaving on a free because no one will pay money for him
I never understand why this is a big deal in case of players that we don't want to play for us. It is a loss, yes. But there is a contract out there and we have to honour it.D. He may leave on a free?
Sort of a combination of A&C for me.
He's not very good and this conversation has been going on for years.
That's not fun. We expect players that we don't like to leave immediately and foresake the money.
I never blamed Jesse tbh. He does what's best for him (I hope so anyway). Our club could have handled it better a while ago (like not renew hos contract last time)
It was badly handled by Solskjaer and that's the plain truth.
The time to move Lingard on was immediately after his loan spell at West Ham, there would have been at least half a dozen clubs wanting him at that time, and if Solskjaer had been honest with Lingard and told him straight "you're not in my plans, and I won't be selecting you" then Lingard would have taken a transfer offer.
Instead though Solskjaer did the exact opposite and promised Lingard plenty of game time, which he then didn't give him.
A ridiculous situation, no good for anyone, and no fault of Lingard's.

From their POV, I understand it in a way and I will never hate them for looking out for their best interests. Our club should know better when it comes to extending/offering/improving contracts depending on players. None of those players robbed the club, they were offered money and they took it. Basically I don't give a shit about players, I hope/want to see our club handle these situations better. Were you ok with Sanchez and Rojo then?
I mean, this opinion means that you'd never blame any player in the world because all of them are doing what is best for themselves.
are people pissed off because...
A. He not that good?
B. He gets paid?
C. He is still here?
D. He may leave on a free?
E. The business didnt sell him and get money?
Which is it?
Normally I would agree with every word of this, but given how (I'm assuming, to be fair) the club stood by him through his mental health struggles, tried to get him help, continued to pay him and generally looked out for him it's a really shitty thing to do to run his contract down, just feels wrong to me.I think you’re talking about a different issue, though? With homegrown players the expectations are lower. If they don’t make the grade it’s no big deal. If you spend a lot of money on a player then they need to perform at a high level, or questions have to be asked (of the player and the manager who signed off on the transfer)
I don’t personally have an issue with either player leaving on a free. They’re always going to act in their own self-interest. What I would hope for, though, is a manager strong enough to freeze out any player who obviously has no interest in being here next season. Let them waste a season of their short careers playing reserve team football if that’s their attitude.

granted there are a lot of unknowns, I could be wide of the mark entirely, but I dont think I am.Did he run down his contract though? Was he offered a new one? The club has fecked up here, if you ask me. He should have been sold to West Ham (or another PL club) in the summer. They missed their chance and have to live with that decision.
He's 29. He shouldn't have been given the last contract. It's a shame that our talented youngsters are leaving on a free transfer.

Why blame any player or even his agent? All 3 sides try tondo what is best for them and nobody forcing club to offer contract and nobody is forcing player to accept it. Same goes other way around (cough Ronaldo cough). When player starts sulking and crying about transfer, i am on club's side. You signed and we (club) decide about your future. Were you ok with Sanchez and Rojo then?

Absolutely. But if you try to be a neutral ; when player is doing his part of contract and not making a mess (Lingard, Rojo, Sanchez, Bale) then you can't blame them. When player starts to disrespect club (and contract) like Ronaldo or Coutinho then you can blame player.I'm looking at things from the supporter POV.
I was commenting on opinion "looking from the player POV, he's right to get the best for himself". Well, agents and players acting like cnut to get better contract, playing time, or forcing a move is always justifiable from players point of view, don't you agree?? All those are just players "looking the best for themselves".
West Ham didn't want to pay that much and Lingard didn't want to move there. The only shambles is that we didn't get £20m~ off West Ham for him in the Summer. I don't understand what the point of keeping him was given how much he's played this season. Even more alarming considering the injuries to forward players we have had this season and the late move for CR7.
West Ham didn't want to pay that much and Lingard didn't want to move there.
Apart from that, yeah, why didn't we?

And selling a player is a combination of clubs wanting him for whatever price we ask and the player accepting to leave to that club for whatever salary they offer.
Many posters seem to be almost embarassed at the thought of losing a player on a free.

Thibk it stems from the fact that we’ve been notorious for letting players go for dirt cheap/free for years now, irrespective of how good or crap they are.
Look at how much the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool get for their rejects.
Edit: A large part of this is probably because we put them on wages way above their talents
A, C, D, but mainly F - He should've been gone instead of Ole telling him he was part of his plans. Then we could've got some decent money for him.
It's one of a number of annoying extended contracts he handed out when we didn't need to and are now dealing with it.
Not to mention, Herrera, Jessie, and Pogba where we could've got some decent money.
Jessie's a great kid but he sums up a lot of what is wrong about United right now. And the idea he's staying for football reasons just makes my blood boil.
Football reasons would be moving somewhere where you can actually play and that will give you a chance of going to the World Cup - surely every footballer's dream.

Michelle Duffy said:Which one will you get your army of bots to vote for @McGrathsipan?
If that was true he would've signed the new contract presented to him.Has anyone considered that Lingard loves United and his first option would be to play for us? 4-2-2-2 might actually suit Lingard, and he can press.
His loan spell at West Ham suddenly made him a hot property. And instead of seizing on that moment and selling him for some decent monkey, we decided to take him back when he had no chance of getting in our team. Not the dumbest thing we’ve ever done but another to add to the long list.F is Oles fault and the kid is nearly 30.
I think he's been lucky to have been kept but his days are numbered now surely. Whether he goes now or in the summer is much of a muchness. I don't see him playing much and at this point the money is much of muchness too

Not to mention keeping Jessie is just holding back the youth that could take his place.

And then, as i said, you have Jones with "look at me, i am paid millions for doing nothing. feck you haters"
Perfect! He's worth more than a decent monkey now come on!![]()
Madrid offered 200m for Mbappe with 12 months left.would you pay millions for something that you could get for free 6 months later? Probably not...
I don't think you got the joke famHe's 29. He shouldn't have been given the last contract.
