When did he score this goal? Also the banner shows an assist, I have no memory of when he had an assist as well.
I thought he was 0/0 for 2019.

Against Rochdale he made a very easy pass to Greenwood who scored a goal. Technically it is an assist even if Greenwood did 99% of the work.

Time for Lingard to assume the senior pro role, and be the mainstay of such a young team. Be interesting to see if he can, as I assume he will probably play 90 minutes.

Problem for him is that us fans are instrinctly linked to him as a player. He's attempting to deflect what he's done online from his performances as a player, but when you're constantly drawing attention to yourself and failing to deliver, you'll always get brought down.

Further, the shit online is clearly a distraction and the fact that he's woefully out of form and not looking at finding it anytime soon means that either he is taking it to heart, or he was never any good to start with.

Form is temporary but class is permanent. At the moment, his terrible form out weighs the times when he was "class". I'd say he's done.
He's attempting to deflect? What are you talking about? Deflect what? This is basically and insight into what it's like coming through the ranks at United and his experiences with the club. Did you listen at all?

Well there is an evident bias against Lingard out here. I mean just look at the Avg Rating for this season for Andreas and Lingard. How is Andreas at 4.8 despite spouting crap performances in every single game, except for a cross in our first match, is beyond my comprehension. Lad cannot even complete a simple pass.
4.8 is a poor rating in itself.

Pereira has been better than Lingard (and Mata) this season. It's why he eventually moved ahead of them in the pecking order despite those two starting the season ahead of him. Both Lingard and Mata have started showing signs of improvement lately though so we'll see if they end up moving back ahead.

I remember Tom Cleverly captained the team in a friendly and then he was sold. Hope we repeat this practice.

I think it works on the principle that the worse you play, the more likely you are to be captain.
If you are absolute dogshite, you get to be club captain!

In Jesse, we have an attacker who can barely create or score chances. This would be the equivalent of a goal keeper who is unable to save shots from entering his own goal. Players of such poor quality should be excluded from the squad and sold. This is what we would call a landmark firing which means that all other attackers will be aware that if you are bad at your job (scoring and creating goals), you will be removed quickly.

From top to bottom, as a club, we are under performing. Almost every single member of the club.
Even the fans (who once demanded success) are now accepting of our poor performances.

Fluky goal and terrible performance all around. He kept running straight into their players through second half it's ridiculous. Imagine a youngster who's looking to him as a captain.

Apart from Lingard's goal. Lingard has to go, so selfish and has poor decision making and alway go for personal glory rather than creating chances for the team. This is how he teaches them? Running and shoot outside the box? He's in No.10 role ffs.

I don't want to see Lingard ever, never again.

He's not better than Angel Gomes at 10.

Saw your usual dribbling down blind alleys, poor passing and poor decision making. Obviously looked at the side and thought he was the big man so tried doing everything himself. Not good enough. Imagine being a young player and seeing him as your captain? Embarrassing.

Nothing new but boy he loves to believe his own hype (imagine any type of hype after not scoring for good 10 months or so). Once he fluked that deflected goal, he'd shoot from any fecking position as long as he could swing his leg. Hope we left him somewhere with Borat.

Captain Lingard, leader of men.... well boys i guess?

Nice for him that he got a goal. Imagine actually a full year without a goal as a player in his position with the amount of gametime he had. A salesman who wouldnt sell a thing in a year wouldnt last for a full year. Goal against Astana and an assist against Rochdale. Give him a new contract!

Disappointed with the celebration though. He had almost a full year and all he did after the goal was the trademarketed iconic Jlingz celebration? Not cool :(

Right at the December time he starts scoring again making some believe he actually is a footballer.

yeah was hoping to see some maturity or humility as captain

Scored with a decent strike that took a slight deflection. First half I thought he performed reasonably well. 2nd half not great. 6 shots, 2 key passes, 2 tackles and 1 inteception.

Did alright, but often does things too slow. It allows defender to block his passes and shoots. If he wants to score more goals he need to play at a higher tempo again.

Imagine being a ManUnited player, a backbone to your manager and then played like that against Astana.

Nice goal but :wenger:

I just can't trust him

Just cannot warm to lingard. I would love to know what goes on in his head. He goes the best part of a calendar year without scoring, he's then selected for a game where most of the 1st team squad have been rested. By process of elimination he has the honour of captaining for the evening he then celebrates his goal against a Kazakhstan pubs league team like he's scored a last minute winner at anfield. By all means celebrate, but come on its 10 mins into a virtual meaningless game. I could understand the celebration if it was a debutant but this joker? Give me a break. My point is I can see why he is despised by many on here for the simple reason he brings it on himself. (oh and his lack of ability also doesn't help). I'm sure in years gone by one of the proper senior player's would of pulled him to one side and told him to concentrate on his football and not give any more ammo to the haters.

His first touch was horrible but fortunately for him it landed right where he could swing a leg at it.
