I think his staunch defenders have run out of valid excuses for him so they resort to condescending bollox.

'98%'
'But... Moyes, LVG, Mourinho and Ole play him. Think you know better than them?'
The best of the lot - 'Would you rather Mata - 10 goals, Martial - 10 goals, Rashford - 10 goals OR Lingard - 0, Martial - 20, Rashford - 20?'

One of the greatest enabling, facilitating, piano carrying enigmas of all time. Too bad we footballing simpletons aren't capable of grasping it.

Haram is still fighting that corner, but that fella Mcking is nowhere to be seen

One of those two must be Jesse’s grandpa.
I think haram invented the whole "world class movement" nonsense. He's not going anywhere. He's just lounging around in his Jlingz underoos waiting for a worldie and he'll be in your face when it eventually happens (probably in December as usual)..

Jesse is fast becoming to Ole what Lukaku was to Mourinho. He seems to have blind faith in the guy regardless of his current form, and it's going to be his undoing. With Lukaku the excuses were that he brings so much more to the team than just goals and that his all-round play and was aiding our game (Mourinho's defense to continue picking Lukaku even though he was hopelessly out of form at the time). Now with Jesse, the excuses are that it's all about his work off the ball - pressing when we don't have it and opening space with his runs when we have it. Personally I don't see it. Drop the guy until his form picks up - don't care who plays in his place.

To be fair he was substituted after 55 minutes today.

He's not good enough to start for United, its plain as day.

He's not good enough to start for Brighton.

Trossard, Gross etc are far superior footballers.

Lingard is just a runner. That's all he brings. He's got no guile or craft. You can't play in attacking midfield unless you can create. He can't.

World class movement, works hard, young and learning, local lad, pressing forward (?), had a good month once

Pick one...

To be fair to him bolded has always been and remains Lingard's main strength, I give him that. What completely deserts him now is his technique with the ball at his feet (not that he was good at it to begin with). Now just think about that for a minute: we, the world's richest association football club, starts a number ten who can't play football.

It's not his fault that he's shit. It's just that we're in a sad, sad state of affairs. I'm fecking tired.

Problem for me is he should never have started in the first place after how poor he was in the Wolves game. Boggles the mind. In any event, we knew Palace were going to set up shop and try and hit us on the counter. So with loads of possession always likely, we could've done with more craft rather than mindless running. Mata, Pereira or Gomes would all have worked better for that.

Why the feck are people still talking about world class movement? What world class movement? Attacking midfielder with world class movement scores at least 10 league goals and adds that many assists just by simple tap ins and being involved high up the pitch by knowing where to stand in the penalty box, scoring rebounds, adding simple assists to his name, etc.

He is nothing player, I have defended him over the years and I really liked him, but he hasn't improved one bit, he has actually regressed over the years. He shouldn't be anywhere near starting XI, I am not sure he is good enough to be even on the bench. Is there one thing that he is good enough these days?

Couldn't agree more. Used to think he is a decent squad option. Not at this time. Needs time out of the firing lane. He is quickly becoming the symbol of Ole's United, not in a good way.

Two years ago I was raving here how at worst he will be a good squad player but he isn't even that anymore. Seriously the only good thing about him these days that I can remember is that he doesn't get injured a lot, so you can say that he is reliable, and somewhat good defensively, but I am not sure which winger/forward isn't decent defensively these days when you ask him to be.

Never thought he was a squad player, the smell like Jlingz half priced promo on his clothing empire was when I knew he was finished though.

Let me tell you what's the worst part of seeing him play.

He receives the ball close toe the opposition box and then passes the ball right back to where it came from. He does this even when he is under no pressure or is a flick away from turning his man and going through.

He does this every game and it's ridiculous. Want to eat my hair out Everytime I see his name on the team sheet.

He doesn't look over his shoulder before the ball is passed.

True and I have said thought the same too. Why does he not look up and see what is going behind him before he receives the ball? We lost so many opportunities because he does not know what is happening behind him. He does this every game now.

People forget in today's hipster, over analysing world is that world class movement is something you need to give you space to score or assist. On it's own it's useless.

That actually may not be that common but doesn't matter anyway. A winger /attacking players defensive work is secondary to their attacking contributions. Similar to a FBs assists/attack doesn't matter if they can't defend.

I was going to say he reminds me of Kuyt but then Kuyt at least had a few goals. He is more like the latter years Heskey of Liverpool with no goals and just hard work. Our role reversal with Liverpool continues.

When we don’t have the ball, Lingard is an asset. But when we have thr ball, Lingard is a liability.

When going up against clubs like Palace, Lingard should only be brought on when we need to defend a lead.

Even during preseason I noticed that during the halves where Lingard was playing we almost didn’t score goals, and then during the half where he was not in the team we played much better and scored goals. There was one exception for the game where he scored a goal. But really, is Ole blind to his shittiness?

The day he will leave the club, I will throw a big party. He himself will be invited.

Should just be a squad player on lower wages. That's kind of what I pegged him to be around 2013. He is what he is. Eventually I hope Gomes swallows up some of his minutes as he's a more talented player. Time will tell if he becomes the better player.

I am beginning to think Ole is playing Jesse because of all the criticism he got from pre-season. Like a dad protecting his wayward son even though he is actually a lost cause. All the endorsements Jesse gets even though his talent does not justify it.

Thing is, like the 2 managers previous, if you are over reliant on him then the usual issues occur (i.e lack of creativity) and then the eventual outcome repeats itself ...

Let's see if that is the hill Ole wants to go by. It's looking like it is so far.

You would hope it will dawn on Ole that Jesse really isn't very good and will drop him. If not I fear for Ole.

Give a player who hasn’t proved anything 100k a week and this is what you get. Believes his own hype and taken his eye of the ball. Can’t really see him developing much more and no club will pay him those wages so he’ll stay here till his contract runs out. However we’ll foolishly renew it.

Wasn't there rumours that Ole gave Lingard a talking to after that stupid video of his that he posted? After which came news that Ole was "impressed by Jesse" during preseason training or something like that.

Mind boggling to see us have such an inept no.10 for so long. Our rumoured no.10 targets like Bruno, Dybala are younger and more talented than him by miles, and eriksen is only a few months older. Board should be shot for not pushing the boat out for one of those players which we badly need in a 4231. We should just play Fred/ Matic in the next game in a 433 and forgo the no.10 position. It's useless with Lingard playing there.

He was a passenger yesterday. Lost the ball too much and couldn't control the ball when he managed to get into good positions. Time to review his place as a starter. Some people may slag me for this but let's please give Gomes Lingards minutes. He literally cannot do any worse, and then we have Jesse or Mata to come on if he isn't getting involved. At least he can control the ball and thread a pass.

a nothing player.....

if Ole vetoed bringing in a midfielder for someone who has no impact apart from running hard it's a disgrace.

That stat last week about his lack of goals and assists was crazy..... Lingard wouldn't get near the starting lineups of most top half sides

he's very fortunate that our bench hasn't a lot of options..... Gomes didnt make bench but he needs to play

OT booed Fellaini yet won’t boo Lingard. Is it because you don’t boo a “local lad” from Warrington.
He gets Utd and it’s not the “Utd way”.

This fella gets on my tits.

Jesse should not be involved, he is not fit to be at this club at all.
