We are in the Lingard thread, with the discussions being about his performances. Not the team performance thread.
He really doesn't bring much to our attack at all does he

Lingard and the others are part of the team. We played like crap and all the players and the managers deserve to be called out.
You obviously won't admit he was poor, and are using others as an excuse again. So I'll leave it at that.

Because he wasn't very good. Unfortunately neither was Martial.
Worked hard as usual but didn't offer any real threat in attack.

Think that says more about how bad Martial is playing rather than any compliment to Lingard.
Stop playing him on the right pissing wing! What has Mourinho seen from him in that position to suggest he's going to have a really good game. He surely can't do the same for the Chelsea game after tonight.
Well, CAM is probably his best position. He's not great on either wing. But it's hard to argue that he deserves to be starting in that position ahead of Mkhi. Mkhi is far more productive from CAM and the better player over all.
In that case don't play him. To me he's Pogba's understudy in a three man midfield.
Though I also think he's better on the left wing.
We just gave him a 5 year contract. We do love our average players don't we?
Plenty effort but lacks the ability needed in the final third. This is highlighted by his severe lack of goal ratio throughout his United career as an attacker. Our very own Dirk Kuyt just with a little less ability. I think he has 1 goal in 18 league games this season.
Laughable, really. There's nothing much to be added here, he's just plain average, however, capable of popping up with a rare goal here and there.
If he was close to being as proficient in front of goal as Kuyt I'd be happy to have him as a squad player. But he isn't. He seems to be living off a couple FA cup goals. Perhaps it's a silly notion but I'd prefer a player who turns up in the 99.9% of matches that aren't played at Wembley.

His off the ball movement is superb. Shame the rest of his game isn't up to scratch as he'd be an incredible player.
He appears to have reached his ceiling, which is a concern, because he still shows the inconsistencies of a teenager.
I like him, I just fear that at 24, there's isn't going to be the improvement in his game that's needed if he's too become more than a squad player.
It's easier to forgive things with Rashford, because of his age, but the same does not apply to Lingard. He has to improve his composure and link-up play.

Why?
This is Lingard's second season with our first team squad just the same as it is Rashford's. If you take the viewpoint that players improve because of their exposure to playing football at a higher level then Lingard hasn't had much of it.
He's a late bloomer, I don't really see any reason why we should assume that he's finished developing.
Was anyone believing otherwise ?
Lingard will never become anything beyond a squad player used for rotation from time to time. I think he knows that himself . That's the maximum he might reach.
He's not bad as player for rotation and we got these kind of players before so I have no problem with him staying on the bench but people should understand he'll never reach anything beyond what he's now.

He can still be sold of course and with a new contract at a better price. I'm hoping Mourinho sees him as a good squad player but not a regular starter next season. Only time will tell....!
Maybe, but even then he's lighter than a feather and gets muscled off the ball more easily than Mata. So that position can't be an option under Jose. Looks more like the perfect understudy to Michail Antonio at West Ham.

I take your point, but the odds are not in Lingard's favour.
He'd be the first to drop out of the starting XI should Mourinho sign a winger. Because Mourinho craves consistency from his players and Lingard doesn't provide that.
I've said it in another thread, I don't believe there's room for both Rashford and Lingard in our attack - because in doing so, you have to legislate for their inconsistency. And we can't afford that if we're to move forward.
Mourinho and his coaches have been impressed with Rashford, both in his ability and his persona. That coupled with his age, is why I think he will be afforded more time than Lingard, who I think will only ever be a squad player.
I disagree I think Lingard is consistently shite.

Not always but mostly, and that why he is squad player,
problem is our starter players are more shitter then him.
Martial had a poor game last night when he came on, difference is Martial has one poor game and he's taken out of the team, Lingard can play as many poor games as he likes and it makes no difference. 90% of the time he is awful and even on the rare occasion he actually does something even in those games he hardly lights up the rest of his time on the field.
With the other players at least you are anticipating something to happen even if it doesn't come off, with Lingard you get consistency , consistently the same old nothing.
I think the difference is attitude. Neither are playing well, Lingard is better but is still lacking. The difference is he works hard and looks like he cares, whereas Martial looks uninterested and hardly fired up and up for the fight.
Martial was poor for more than one game,
Problem is your are expecting starter level performance from our squad player, if Lingard is consistent enough he would never consider squad player.
Right now we don't have option to play better player on that position so its better he is performing, we can replace him in next window.
