SSN.

He say's he's signing for City in the next couple of days. Price about £10m.

Errr, because Boateng is better!

He's of similar age to Smalling and is a first teamer for Hamburg, has nearly 100 games under his belt, including CL experience and is a German international. Smalling has a pitiful 13 games for Fulham and was backup to Hughes and Hangeland.

I love our fans. Any chance to knock a new signing without them having even played 1 minute of football the club eh?

Wow!

Jonathon Greening has a Champions League winners medal. That must mean he is better than Cantona.

That could just mean he matured earlier, and came into an easier environment to develop. It doesn't mean he's better, by any means. So many examples of players who mature earlier but don't develop as much.

He looks very promising though, a very reasonable price and a well thought-out move instead of going for the big names for big money.

85k's crazy though.

His contract is worth £85k per week. This is crazy.
bruaahahahahahahahaha £85k for Jerome fecking Boateng, the world has officially gone mad.

Much like Richards Boateng is a physical beast but lacks any sort of football brain. Decent*signing (for a team like City), not much more.

* Of course this is a MASSIVE signing, best defender ever.

Boateng has a lot of potential, can play right-back and centre-back & clearly has a better footballing brain than a certain Micah Richards. Played a great U-21 championship, an excellent first half of the season for Hamburg, but faded in the second part.

The reason he left was because of trouble in the dressing room at Hamburg, he stated today.

Surely that is the end of Micah Richards, which i think is a pity as the lad has lots of potential. He's a beast and needs to work on his concentration and reading of the game, which can come with guidance and experience. Basically whatever cannot be taught, he has it all. I hope Fergie would bid for him, but i see him going to Spurs or Everton for peanuts, only to blossom into an England international regular in a season or two.

Lets look at his elder brother, young player of the year in Germany - perhaps the new big German star. Today - he represents Ghana because he is not good enough to represent Germany, despite of a bit of a comeback in Pompey this season. It wont surprise me at all if he completley flops when he takes the big step into the big league. Look at Metzelder when he went to Real Madrid... Great Germany, crap in the big league, and it should be a lot harder to make it City than Real.

Boateng might be better than Smalling right now. But he will not be better than Smalling in a couple of years when Ferguson developes him further. Ronny Johnsen and Nemanja Vidic are examples whom actually were rather unproven when we bought them, whom went on to become world class, I bet Smalling can do the same. Rumour has it we had scouted him a long time. Smalling is a proven Premier League player, we have Wes Brown, Johnny Evans behind Rio and Vidic... Smalling can develop into a real good defender, physically he got it all, the biggest national talents does cost money - I am sure Smalling will be worth every penny.

Not to nit-pick.... But how the hell can you call Smalling be a 'proven' Premier League player when he's played in 13 games?

You really are the most red tinted, biased, dumbest poster ever. I cannot imagine the mental jumps you'd need to do to come to the conclusion that signing a German international and a starter for Hamburg is a worse deal than signing a Fulham backup player who actually has looked very shaky when he's played when both players cost about the same amount and are the same age.

I am not in the least bit sorry we missed out on Boateng because I don't think he's exceptional, but he's shown far, far more than Smalling ever has in his career so far.

Ronny Johnsen was never ever world class either by the way. He was a very solid centre back when not injured but that was rarely.

And Germany is a good league.

good post, i agree he's not gonna be the best in the world but he has potential to be a very solid defender...certainly ''top 4'' material

Comparing smalling and Boateng is silly. Boateng has more experience and is well ahead in his development. For fecks sake, Smalling wasn't even playing top flight football 24 months ago.

Still, how Boateng will do in the premier league is unknown. That said, we did over pay for Smalling (I'm not sure how any young prospect player can be worth more then 5-6 million). But then again, we tend to overpay for most players due to the united-tax.

There not BROTHERS... Jeezzz, they don't even look similar.

I think there are some where you just know they are the real deal. I think when we all saw Messi, Fabregas and Rooney play at 16/17 there was no doubt they a little more than your standard talented young player.

yes they are...Jerome and Kevin-prince are brothers. one plays for Germany one plays for Ghana...they are both born in Germany to a German mother and a Ghanaian Father.
