His Monaco side played good football for one season, the season before they struggled to score goals, the season after he failed to win a single game in 10 and was sacked. Seems perfect for a club in turmoil.

Well they scored 85 goals in the league last season which was right after his 107 goal season. So technically it was 2 good attacking seasons.
 
If I was in charge my shortlist of realistic candidates would be,

1. Poch
2. Allegri
3. Zidane
4. Jardim
5. Howe
 
I wonder why folks don't value the set up of Red Bull's. All their teams have a the same ethos across their teams. I'm quite surprised Rose is never mentioned.

I don't think either of Poch or Allegri would fancy it, and Zidane would be a big gamble given the work that needs to be done on this team/club.

My apologies :D, I know I keep banging on about them but it amazes me how they’ve been able to successfully use their blue print across 3 teams and we can’t even do it to one!

Jardim played enough beautiful football and winning league in 2016 to prove he has what it takes to be a top manager.

It it was up to me I'd give him the job tomorrow as caretaker with the option of a full time position should he turn things around at the club. By turn things around I wouldn't expect him to make top 4 (Jose's mathematically fecked that goal, along with a new manager, new squad, not his players etc.. all against him). But if there was visible signs of a happy more confidence squad, playing better football and entertaining the fans then I would give him a 3 year deal in the summer.

You could argue why on earth would he take a caretaker job. Well, we're not a small club, we're one of the biggest. Opportunities like these are golden to managers, it's the career goal.

They're successful because they look at the coaching ability of who they hire and see if it aligns with their vision. This possibly applies to other positions within their club. We need to stick to our traditions and we'll be fine.
 
The club will be going all out for Poch. But out of these two I would like Zizou. Did a great job managing the egos at Madrid and would go a long way in changing the current environment at the club.
 
Out of the two I'd favour Jardim due to his work at not just Monaco but also at SCP.
 
I think people really overlook how much Zidane used the academy at Madrid and liked bringing in cheap players from smaller clubs and moulding them into top class talent.
 
I don’t want Zidane here, even though he was one of my favorite players. But watching the matches of Real Madrid, I didn’t understand what kind of football they were trying to play. There was no structure and philosophy(LVG;)) in their football. Honestly I think they were very lucky in several games in CL and win it three times in a row.
 
Don't know where the Jardim calls come from. Will never happen. Sometimes, you can get both brawn and beauty: Zidane.

Brendan Rodgers i'd take over Conte, Simeone, Allegri etc. People can disagree but Rodgers plays attacking football and should've won the league with Liverpool if Gerrard didn't let it slip.:D A DoF working with Rodgers and he'd be fine.
 
I liked the idea of Jardim, and for some reason I don't fancy Zidane at all. I just don't see him building the club back up. The more I think about it, the more I like Pochettino. I think he could break his trophy duck with us if we were to back him to the hilt.
 
Its clear that after 3 conservative choices we need to be prepared to go with more than a 'safe pair of hands'

We need someone to build the squad back up, both in terms of confidence and quality. Jardim may or may not be the best choice, but we need a modern young coach who is tactically astute, can improve our players, can use some of the plethora of talented players we have in the youth and has a good eye for talent. I don't think Zidane is that guy. Though, I am quite certain Eddy will go for someone like him because he is a big name.

How are our traditions so much more different than RB’s?
 
I have read that Jardim turned down an offer to coach in the middle east because he has a PL offer. Could be us.
 
Yesterday Zidane, on his Instagram account, posted a picture of him and Lippi at Juve, think he could be set to replace Allegri next season?

You can't compare a club that operates as a FC to one that is a PLC. If we operated like a FC than we would never compromise on our style of play and would have our footballing structure modernised by now. If we stuck by our traditions then Mourinho would never have happened because his football never aligned with our traditions.

We've been a PLC for a while and in that time we've won the UCL and PL titles

This is my point. We get the football side of things back again and the business will follow.
 
Zidane mustn't be in the reckoning if we are looking to appoint an interim manager then a new manager next season. He's not attached to any club now so he'd just come in, get to know the squad and hit the ground running next season

The rumours in the summer were that he'd take some sort of directing role there, I believe.

That's not what United need. United don't have a top squad and don't need just a motivational. We need coaching.

Zidane and Carlo didn't need to go to Modric and tell him when to pass and where to move. They didn't go to Ronaldo to tell him where to move and where to position in the box. They simply controlled the egos and applied their in game tactics.

This isn't going to work at United because we're dogshite at football and players are failing to do the basic stuff. What United need is someone who will take players to the ground and teach them how to pass and move in space. No big manager is going to do that.

If Zidane is hired, 2 years in and I bet everyone will still be talking about our lack of identity and lack of any style while depending on individual quality. Will be exactly the same. United needs direction and play style, not just a good in game manager.

I didn't say that.

I said what United need right now is a definitive style and direction because the players lack basic stuff and the next manager won't just need to put players in position and give them in game instructions. He will need to coach them how to move and play.

Zidane is a good manager, but he's not the one United needs right now, far from it.
