Hernandez, Nani and maybe a CB still to sell as well?

I guess we can expect quite a few players to arrive this summer so. That's a fair amount of wages freed. All part of the process I guess.

I'm exuberant. An intelligent move to refrain from buying in the january window. Save the money for when the big guns are available.

Where do you find these words in your vocabulary?

Exhilarating window btw.

Out of curiosity, has anyone added up what we've made from transfers and will be saving in wages with all the departures since the summer?

I'm happy with the window but we have to do quite a bit of business in the summer.

Out
Lindegaard
Evans
Valencia
Cleverley
Powell
Nani
Hernandez

Unsure
Jones - Needs to stay fit and become a more consistent player.
Smalling - Needs to stay fit.
Young - Has done well this year so probably keep.
Fellaini - Has done well this year so probably keep.
Mata - Love the guy but I'm not sure if he would be a starter if we signed a top winger.
Van Persie - Getting on and struggled this year but still can score a wonder goal so prob keep until contract runs out.
Falcao - Not showing enough to justify them rumored money and if we sign a striker I personally would rather someone with a lot of pace.

In
RB - Clyne/Coleman
CB - Hummels/Laporte/Marquinos/Godin - (At least 1 if not 2)
CM - Pogba/Schneiderlinn/Strootman (if fit) - (At least 1 if not 2)
LW - Depay
RW - Reus

I suspect Rafael is more likely to be sold than Valencia.

I know what ya mean. I don't enjoy seeing Valencia play anymore though. We need a more dangerous attacking outlet whether it be at RB or RWB.

Yep.

Rafael has continued to be injury prone under van Gaal. Valencia has actually impressed this season, but one reason or another some are unwilling to accept it.

No panic buys which I like. Instills confidence ie LVG clearly thinks we have what is needed to make top 4. Those of a nervous and impatient disposition and who want us to throw silly money at all manner of unsuitable and short term solutions are not happy I expect.

We are playing the long game and I like the feel of it.

Valdez was a nice surprise until it fueled more De Gea rumors. Indifferent.

Why on earth would you want to get rid of Young and Fellaini based on this season so far?

In fact, with the fact that we've bought nobody in, why would you want tog et rid of any of them?

1. Young is a winger who by LVG standards is not good enough to play as a winger. Make any sense? No. Get rid and bring in a winger who can play as a winger, less chance of the 352 with him out the door.
2. Fellaini a DM who can't play DM, were lumping balls up to him and have played him as a striker when we have RVP, Falcao and Rooney. I haven't enjoyed the football we've played with him on the pitch, get rid, stop lumping balls forward and play football on deck like we have been doing recently.

This makes zero sense. LVG is insistent on playing 3-5-2 for certain matches - do you reallly want to get rid of the best wingback at the club if this is the case?

And that's happened about twice this season at most. In general Fellaini has put in good midfield performances... including times when the football has been on the deck.

Anything that involves 352 should not exist at utd, we have been playing better with 4 at the back and we should now stick with it. Getting rid of Young I have no problem with, he's wasn't good enough before and isn't good enough regardless of his new role

That doesn't look like it's going to happen though does it? And so the question is - with LVG insisting on playing 3-5-2 often, do you want us to get rid of our best wing-back if we haven't signed any actual wingbacks?

From what LVG has said hopefully this is the last we see from it. As for Young, yes I couldn't give 2fs how good he's been, he's a wasteman and needs to be dealt with, out the door. Were actually very close to clearing out all the deadwood we've had over the years long may it continue. Obviously he can't go now till the end of the season but my god if he's still here next year playing in the CL I don't know what I'd do.

Absolutely happy with Valdes as a 2nd choice GK and glad we're investing in youth... just worried about addressing our biggest problems have to wait another months.

The squad is good enough to make 3rd place comfortably. The trimming of the dead wood is great, it's looking a lot less bloated now and starting to take shape although there is still players to clear off the books completely and that will happen in the summer.

As for signings, it's better to hold back if the top bracket players are not availiable than to once again start bloating the squad with the likes of Vlaar and Schar. That would be, IMO, going back to the days of signing squad players when we should be bettering our squad and making the current players the squad players fighting for a spot in the first XI.
Agree. The types of players we need are very rarely available in the Jan transfer window.

Pruning the deadwood in January gives us the chance to make an early start in the summer. What we have to avoid is the situation where we can't bring players in until we've first let some go (and let's face it, we had a pretty large squad that needed trimming) so now we should be able to go in for our primary targets when the next window opens.

While I'd like to have seen us improve our team, I'm happy that we haven't fallen into the trap of last year and panic-bought. Seems we might be starting to learn some lessons in that regard.

Pruning them now is fine but I don't think it has any real effect on how we could have gone about business in the summer. We have until the end of the summer window to meet the squad limit regulations. The small fees we got and the savings in wages is not going to make our break our transfer budget. So I think it is just a matter of why keep them around and pay them if we are not using them.

I'm mostly indifferent. Valdes is good I suppose but so is Lindegaard so I don't really care about that unless Lindegaard has indicated that he wants to leave. If that were the case then I'd be really happy to have Valdes there.

It's also good to see Anderson go as much as I like him as a character he's by far overstayed his welcome. Sad to see Fletcher go but it was time.

Not happy to see Zaha go. Everything about his tenure here frustrates me. He has talent though and tossing him for a pittance at this time doesn't really make sense to me.

He's not that talented, nor does he seem the type to ever learn from his flaws.

He'll end up back in the Championship with occasional spells at a team that takes a punt hoping he'll learn his lessons then gets relegated

I'm surprised that Anders Lindergaard is still at the club, given that we've signed Victor Valdes. This in my opinion does not bode well, for it might mean that we are preparing for De Gea to leave with Valdes' signing and is retaining Anders as the 2nd GK.
