Where have I argued that it's not vile? I've stated twice that it's not acceptable, mate. I think he should be fined and attend anger management in fact.

For whatever reason, you don't seem capable of talking about the incident in the context that it actually occurred, so probably better to agree to disagree.

He didn't just walk up to someone in their driveway and spit at them for no reason ffs. Making such a comparison is utterly pointless.

I get where you are coming from. There seems to be some blame on the victim (the dad, not the girl) who might have provoked him more than was let on. Of course, the bulk of the blame lies with Carragher, spitting is inexcusable regardless of context.
 
I really hope they dont sack him. I love seeing his face when liverpool lose.

Footballers get away with pretty much anything because they are multi-million pound assets and are hard to replace. Footballers have not been sacked for taking drugs, assault, lying, racism, cheating, biting and a whole host of behaviours that you and I would be sacked for.

Carragher is not a footballer anymore, and is not going to cost £30m to replace, so normal workplace rules will apply. He will be lucky to still have a job at the end of this.

I was being somewhat rhetorical. There's a hypocrisy within football that's hard to take sometimes, obviously. That said, I still don't think he should lose his job.
 
As bad as this is for Carragher, the father of the teenage girl comes across as an even bigger plonker.

Would you really spend your time goading an ex-footballer over a game he wasn’t even involved in? And record whilst driving? Whilst your daughter is sat there saying “dad, stop”...

Have to agree. I like him as a pundit too I wouldn't like to see him sacked but it is just such an awful dosage of PR I really wouldn't be surprised.
 
I've seen the video a number of times.

It seems the driver was star-struck having seen Jamie in a traffic jam.

Says "Hey look Jamie Carragher" to his daughter (Those words seem to suggest it's the first time he's had a dialogue with Carragher)

Carragher actually acknowledges the father and lifts his hand to say hello whilst the window is closed. He then proceeds to open the car window hears the "2-1 Jamie lad" comment. He loses his head and just spits towards the car. I don't think it was particularly aimed at the passenger. Father was unaware the girl had been struck by the spittle until a few seconds later when the girl shouts out to the father to stop.

Carragher saying in his tweet he was provoked a number of times does not seem correct. It was a disgusting act by a TV and football celebrity. Shouting 2-1 is hardly provocation.
 
Was starting to enjoy his punditry...but damn how can anyone defend that act?

The reason it’s not allowed on a football pitch is because the act of spitting is fecking vile itself, anywhere. An opposition fan saying 2-1, big deal. Wind your window up and move on like a big boy.

Judging from thread's title i thought he spat right onto that little girl's face. To be fair to jaime, you cant gauge someone without expecting some retributions (although i admit it was too far), and the fact this man recorded the whole incident goes to show his true intention. I think people need to give people like jaime or neville some slack in their private lives, imagine had Roy Keane or Cantona played today, you'll see lot of incidents like this recorded by some idiots to gain attention. I hope he doesnt get sack, he's one of very few decent pundits left in england.

Knowing who you are, how stupid do you need to be to spit at someone whilst they’re recording you?
 
Athletes/celebrities should know better. They are in the public eye they’re the ones getting the big bucks. In a situation like this they have to be the bigger ‘man’ and walk away or in Carragher’s case, shut the window, turn the volume up on the radio and ignore, ignore, ignore. He didn’t and it might very well cost him his job.

It's inexcusable in his case. What the pheck is a man in his 40's doing spitting at someone?
 
How did he produce so much spit? It was like HHH after he drinker from the bottle.

Speaking of, I wonder if anyone from the front row of a WWE event has ever complained about HHH spitting at them.

He didn’t just spit on the wing or window. The window was down, he spat through an open window into the face of a young girl.

And If you think Jaime deserves the sack surely the father deserves same treatment too, no? bcause I dont know any "normal" jobs where you can mock provocatively someone and get away with it?

Absolutely has no relation to Carragher’s act, but the father here is also a total asshole. Traffic or not he shouldn’t be on his mobile. Unnecessary risk given his daughter was in the car.

As for Carragher’s act, what a vile human being.

Are you really surprised? They defended Suarez’ racism, his acts of attempted cannibalism and manage to turn any manager with a shred of credibility into a bitter, delusional prick. There’s something in the water.
 
Banta in football will be nothing alien to him. I seem to remember him having strong views about being spitting on the pitch. I can't see how he can continue his career as a pundit....shame as I quite like him.
 
OK - let's say there is more of this ''goading'' that we don't see. There isn't anything in the demeanour of the daughter that suggests this was particularly terrible. She doesn't sound distressed, she isn't afraid of her Dad, as such. Her words have the sense of her fairly harmless-sounding Dad is being a wally (again). She isn't disgusted by Dad's behaviour as such (maybe not seeing the driving safety connotations, but she is only 14).

I still don't see that the coin throwing clogging twat has any sort of justification - and he ought to know better from previous experience of coping with terrible abuse similar to ''2-1, Jamie lad'' that he must have received on many previous occasions.

I can't believe the Caf ''sympathy'' for him, tbh.

He works as a public personality - but I maybe have some agreement with the ''shouldn't lose his job over it'' argument if he has been more provoked - but not much.

And it is vile, if any has hit her, it's a fair bit more 'orrible than ''not nice.''

I'm sorry and I can't be bothered to search through the thread, but who is defending him? There's really no excuses to be made. I guess everyone can lose their head sometimes, but there are simply no excuses for such behaviour. The video also suggests that it's the first time this person provokes him - although of course others could have done the same before this incident.

Carragher should accept any punishment he gets for this.
