Good comparisons with Tripper and Ake, both of who are top top players for Newcastle and City, and both of who stood out in their shitty PL teams.

A good PL player in a shit PL team, with proper coaching can become a pivotal player.

And JWP is a good fecking player. Tidy, with plenty of aggression and will power.
Mentality is probably better then 90% of our players.

And with average of 6,7 corners and around 10 free kicks per game, he'd be useful.

James wouldn’t be regular starter for us, but at his age he might be tempted to accept a squad man role for a club competing for the PL trophy.

Let’s sign some central midfielders who play well with the ball in open play, please. No more off the ball runners, set piece players, or destroyer no.6s.

Yes, I said all players die at 30.

There is no reason for him to accept a 2 year deal when he will rightfully have his pick of mid-table teams offering him 5+.
It would be completely up to him whether he'd want to probably be a starter at a mid-table club or a squad player at a club competing for trophies. Plenty of players would pick the former while plenty would pick the latter. I'd say it would have to be a 3 year contract rather than a 2 year though.

A year or two ago I did quite like the idea of bringing him in as a squad player if we could get him for cheap (which we wouldn't have), but that time may have passed.

You would think that a United supporter would know better than to under rate a player just because he's great at set pieces. As stated, JWP he been performing really well in a 2 man midfield. Now what if he had 2 other midfielders with him like Bruno and Cassemiro? Not saying it would definitely work. But I think it's silly to write off a player because they are good at free kicks and because they play for a crap team. Imagine if we passed on Keane because Forest was crap...

Yeah he's one of those players who I can't decide if he is capable of making that step up

He'll be a squad player tbh but a good one to have when we play weaker teams and we break them down with a set piece. Then they cannot sit back in the low block, which will force them out and we can batter them.

Would offer more than McTomminay and possibly Fred also, for that reason he's an improvement at a potentially good value. I'd prefer these types of transfers than Rabiot or another £90m flop.

This guy played a part in getting his own team relegated, we should definitely sign him to make a title push.

Take away his incredible ability at set pieces and nobody would be talking about him. He's a specialist but besides that he's not really good.

Southampton caller on TalkSport on the way home on Saturday said he's pretty terrible and only ever passes sideways and backwards, hence him never being in the England squad. Only use is set pieces.

He's a decent player and brilliant at dead balls. I wouldn't hate the signing, but I'm really not convinced his all around game is good enough.

If both Southampton and Leicester go down, I'd much rather we target Lavia and Maddison.

Come on guys. He ain't good enough. Pure delusion to maintain that he is good enough for United. Slightly concerning actually that some are so happy to pick off aging relegation fodder. Are we trying to get better or compete for the Conference League place?

If we're that strapped for cash we have to go for a guy who's best quality is a free kick, just throw a contract at Rabiot. Least he's somewhat noted outside set pieces.

He's worse at dribbling and carrying the ball than all of our starting midfielders who are all nothing special in that department. He isn't even defensively great. Anyone who wants him has no clue what this United midfield really needs.

Outside of his set-pieces, what does he offer ? Because you aren't going to get a set piece every minute.

Would rather take Kyle W-P from So’ton.

Same was said about one of our best ever midfielders in Carrick. The regular joe knows feck all. Famously when United played AC Milan if I remember correctly all the Italian press were lauding how good Carrick is and they marked him out the game. Now by no means comparing JWP to Carrick in terms of ability far from it. But always passing Sideways or Backwards is not a yard stick to judge him by.

He's easily better than McT and Fred. Wijnaldum went to Liverpool off the back of a relegation, as did Robertson.

Like them, I think he's one of those players that could excel in the right side, he works hard, is tidy on the ball, has excellent control passing and vision at times.

As a backup option if Fred and McT would just piss off, I can't really see the harm in it.

Yeah completely agree

Not good enough to be a starter and I don't think he's even better than Dalot or AWB. No need to get more depth as we already have 2 rotation quality RB. If were looking for a RB it should be one to become a starter.

If Rabiot is Casemiro's backup/rotation/alternative/whatever then Ward-Prowse would make sense as Eriksen's. Personally i'd preder we brought in someone like Kokcu or Le Fee but you could argue Ward-Prowse is more of a known entity and after battling away at Southampton for years where he is captain we've seen he's got good charecter.

Don't think he's good enough at all in general play, despite the set piece magic and a seemingly decent mentality. Lavia and Walker-Peters would be the only ones worth a look at Southampton for my money.

I’ve never seen a relegated team with so many highly rated players than I have on here

If he didn't have those lethal free-kicks against us, he wouldn't even be talked about honestly. That being said, those free-kicks isn't irrelevant, we're horrible at set pieces so he would be a decent asset in that regard if he doesn't cost too much. There is some value there if the price is right. Works hard. Like a shorter McTominay with better attacking output and actually a little bit more defensive awareness and playmaker skills but less of the physical force.

Think you could turn him into an energetic, pragmatic midfielder similar to Henderson who could do a job. And then you have
GOAT tier set pieces. I wouldn't say no tbh, he'd be more useful in the squad than DVB.

They called Ray Wilkins the crab for the same reasons, yet I saw him play live against Maradona twice and the latter never had a sniff in both games

What are Le Fee/Kokcu like on the ball,no doubt Ward-Prowse is one of the best set piece takers around but is that enough for us

Aston Villa level quality. Shouldn’t be considered.
Set pieces are over stated. On average a free kick is scored 6% of the time according to statistics and JWP scores 7% of the time per info in another thread. Therefore he is par for the course. His overall play is not top 4 quality.

This is pretty much JWP.

Aston Villa or West Ham level quality and we shouldn't add more deadwoods to the team especially considering that JWP isn't even the kind of midfielder that ten Hag is looking for. He's looking for midfielder who is press resistant that can progress the ball while being pressed and JWP ain't it.

James Ward Schneiderlin

I really hope the scouts set the bar higher than this guy

Everyone here seems to be missing the point. He's not a starter, he's a squad player. People saying he's crap or that he wouldn't fit into a top club are the same people likely who said that about Mane or Robertson.

He's a squad player who hopefully replaces McTominay, but a player who actually has a fantastic set piece deliver. Ours are absolutely shocking tbh
