Well at least Haaland is good...Nusa, Sørloth, Haaland and Bobb - there arent a lot of countries better than that (sorry Scanlon)

I think it's because he maybe isn't the most naturally talented. He isn't a flashy player, but very efficient. You could say that he doesn't have any real stand out attributes, but can do a number of things to a 'good' standard. Perhaps the type of player who his manager will love, but some fans don't fully appreciate.I only ever watch the highlights of the 'unders' games...but I can't understand why there's not more noise around Scanlon?
He looks really good from what I have seen, really natural footballer with a broad skill set. He's outscored Chido Obi Martin this season (who gets a tonne of press) whilst also being 2nd on our list of assists.
Can someone who watches the full games / watches regularly tell me why he's not getting more hype?

I wouldn't say McTominay has no standout physical attributes. He's a 6'4 unit, who's both dominant in the air and can run a 5k in 16 minutes. Its a pretty desirable athletic profile.I like how clinical he is - you always feel that he's likely to convert a good amount of his chances. And he has a good ability to get in and around the box to get those opportunities.
I guess one main issue I'm thinking about with him is that he seems a McTominay type midfielder - doesn't have any real stand out physical or technical attributes other than that ability to get into the box and contribute goals, and difficult to find a position to utilise that in some formations given the limitations.
If he can transfer that ability to get into good goalscoring positions at first team level, then maybe our formation would be OK for him as one of the two 10's.
Certainly one of the many youngsters who are impressing, and who has an opportunity to make it at first team level. But obviously very difficult to see which ones will achieve it, and which will even get the genuine opportunities to try.
Its about time he got a chanceOne of 3 new faces training with the first team today, under consideration for tomorrow with injuries piling up - Ugarte out, Mainoo and Collyer highly doubtful.

That post is from a month ago.Oh Collyer just returned this weekend. I hope nothing serious
What a chance to give one of the lads the debut. The win would've felt even better with a debut for one of themShame none of the academy kids got on but it didn't get put to bed until Sociedad collapsed (no pun intended for all you Spanish speakers) at the very end.
Had it been 3-1 on 80 mins or something, maybe Ruben would've thrown them on. But it wasn't until the 87th min so a bit late by then. Hoping that they still get their chance before the season's out. What a chance to give one of the lads the debut. The win would've felt even better with a debut for one of them

Still. A minute or two would mean the world to them and send a great signal to the rest.Had it been 3-1 on 80 mins or something, maybe Ruben would've thrown them on. But it wasn't until the 87th min so a bit late by then. Hoping that they still get their chance before the season's out.
Yeah, I wasn't expecting him to give any minutes to any of those kids who seem considered more as bench fillers due to injuries than genuine first team options at this stage.Amorim hasn't done that with anyone except Obi, has he? Heaven was brought in directly as a rotational player with promised game time. None of the other academy players have been bedded in yet, even as a late substitute.
Yeah this was frustrating, we were 4-1 up with a few minutes to go. Stick on a few kids. Not sure why Amorim didn't do that.Although you'd think that of they are good enough to fill a place on the bench, they could be given a few minutes.
He could have given Dorgu the opportunity to receive a standing ovation and give Amass 3 minutes. Or Bruno and Fletcher for instance.
We've done that with many players in the past decade and it hasn't worked out. Shoretire is a great example of how we threw someone in for the sake of it and he couldn't handle it. Now he's 21 and plays in the Greek division. If the players think it's too easy, it gets to their heads and/or their agent starts negotiating absurd contracts or touts them to other clubs.Yeah this was frustrating, we were 4-1 up with a few minutes to go. Agree, Charlie Savage and Zidane Iqbal were others it a European game. It may be adds to the pressure. He's doing well at Utrecht. who are in the top 5 in HollandZidane Iqbal was a bench player for our u18s and couldn’t even make the squad for the big matches. But no, it was that 1 minute cameo against Young Boys that destroyed his chances of making it big.
The point is that he was not as highly rated coming through the ranks as some people here seem to believe. He's doing well at Utrecht. who are in the top 5 in Holland
The reason they didn't make it isn't because they got some minutes in Europe. Iqbal had the talent but not the physicals, Savage probably had the physicals but not the required talent and Shoretire is just the sort of player that isn't good enough for a United breakout as a teenager but could maybe come good as he develops some game nous. We've done that with many players in the past decade and it hasn't worked out.
