Very advanced talks. Bit of a coup for Everton.

Shows what a reputed manager can do in terms of recruitment.

What's English winter like compared to in Germany?

Barely played last season - 14 games and 1 goal in all comps (728minutes or just over 8 games)
Missed 14 games due to injury. Is he still any good?

Great player when he's on, the exact kind of speculative punt a team like Everton needs to take. Boom potential high, bust potential, who cares?

Will be Everton’s De Maria signing......be gone after one season, wife didn’t like the weather and lifestyle in Merseyside

Haha wasn’t he moaning about the weather in Munich. Yeah this one is going to be coup alright.

Would be nice to see him in the PL.

I have a feeling Everton wouldn't have got near him if it wasn't for Covid. So it feels like a coup.

Thought Everton play 442. Alright they could move Richarlison to the wing, but I could see this backfiring spectacularly.

Very good player but he’ll not come cheap, won’t fit their system & is very injury prone. Also seems to have regressed quite a bit since his peak. I’ll watch him closely though, extremely exciting player to watch when he’s on it. This is a risk though.

Contract expires in less than a year he'll go for less than 40m

Sometimes I forgot Ancelotti is the manager of Everton. OP is right. It shows you can get the top tier players with a world-class manager. It helps a lot. Most players move because they want to play for that particular manager and City has been widely touted as the most likely destination for Messi due to his personal connection with Pep.

Can't wait till this thread is bumped after every good game and ignoring all the bad ones

They already have a prem proven number 10 in Sigurdsson who didn't fit Ancelotti's system last season (he was using 442 right?). Not sure I see the point in signing James.

Yes but James is not top tier player.

Only time James played really well for us was under Heynckes, after Ancelotti was fired.

I meant his wages. He’ll be their top earner, while being a big injury risk. Could pay off & take them to the next level, could massively backfire, creating resentment in the squad with a guy earning twice their wage to sit on the treatment table. We’ll see. It’s a big big gamble. He’s reportedly got a lazy attitude & didn’t like the Munich weather, so I’m sure he’ll love Liverpool city of culture.

Hard not to be excited. I get the points about his injury record and how his attitude could be but in reality we have just scraped to 12th in the league and are seriously lacking in good footballers. We are in no position to turn our nose up at somebody of his quality. Him and Allan would immensely improve our team i would like to believe.

They are looking for a buyer rather than another loan otherwise might be worth taking him on loan for depth. A bit like Bayern have done over the last few years.

Could go either way for Everton this one.

The impression I have of him is that he is a technical player with no pace.

Really hope he comes, would love to see him rediscover his form in the premier league, I am actually quite jealous of this signing!

Ancelotti is a massive fan and they seem to understand each other very well but I’m surprised by this. Our wage bill was already alarming and I don’t see him coming in to be happy on 100k or less a week.

Get him and Doucoure/Allan though and it would be fantastic for the squad.

It'd be nice to watch a Merseyside derby with a slither of hope that the Toffees might not be so utterly inept. Buying players that ensure Schneiderlin (I know he's already gone), Davies, Iwobi etc. don't get to play would be a decent start.

Ancelotti deserves a statue at the Bernabéu. In any case it seems like a good choice

James is no longer a top tier player and neither is ancelotti any longer a world class manager.

I doubt Brighton could afford his wages? Could be wrong though, with the TV deals and everything.

Personally, I think he’ll tear up the league. If you lot could actually afford him, he’d pretty much single-handedly get you into the top 10 next year. I’d love him as a world class backup to Pogba and Bruno too.

Couldn't care less. Doubt he will be any better than Sigurdsson and will disappear come winter.

Hope it happens. Would love to see him play in the Prem and tear it up . On his day wonderful player to watch

Thread full of naysayers as usual. James is the sort of player that makes football exciting to watch. I would be looking forward to this if I was an Everton fan.
