James Rodriguez | Former Al Rayyan Giggs Player

None of us know for sure but personally I’d say yes. In the same way an inexperienced Lampard has managed to sign certain players.
But Lampard is at Chelsea, a significantly bigger club than Everton.

That fact he played with Ancelotti at 2 other clubs has alot to do with it me thinks.

Id say Alan also isnt at Everton without him.

Chelsea are a big club who attract that level of player without needing the pull of the manager just like United

Perhaps, I’m not really arguing either way to be honest I was more asking what the point being made on the earlier post (genuine Q).

As an aside Allan looks very tidy, looks a great player.

Let’s see what happens when the sun stops shining first before getting all high and mighty
We know whatever the problem was at his other clubs, it wasn't the bad weather since there was no bad weather there (at least not at Real Madrid). I guess we'll see it how it plays out and if he manages to maintain is impressive start.

cold weather and darkness is nonsense anyway, since he played for Bayern, where there is plenty of snow, darkness early in the winter and coldness. He may not love life in Liverpool, but he is aware of the shitty weather in winter and lived through it before.

I wonder if Everton might mount a surprise challenge for the Top Six this season, based on how they have started?

Nobody questioned his ability or class, he's always possessed that magic. His biggest issue have been injuries in the past few season.

Initially it was being reported Everton are paying €25m transfer fee in addition to hefty wages which made many question if he'll work out for them given the outlay. But, that's not quite true. They have got him on a free, and physically he looks good. It's probably gonna be one of the signings of the season.

He was good in Munich - he was just a rival with Müller for a central position and even if they functioned great together - in 2017/18 even both on an 8 - Müller was more important centrally because his help for Lewy and Robben. At Real he did not really get a chance as Kroos + Modric on 6/8 was not defensively stable so a defensive midfielder was needed - and Zidane preferred this two.

And James needs the full support of his coach and no rivalry.

You keep banging on about deco in various posts. What has deco got to do with James?
What the feck? This is most probably the first time in mentioned him on this forum, or any platform since he left Chelsea for that matter

He recently gave an interview where he said he absolutely hated the Munich winter and it was one of the reasons he didn’t adapt, that and the ‘cold’ German people.

He’s a fair weather player figuratively and literally, although his status at Everton might be enough to to keep his fragile ego happy.

There's been a Chelsea fan repeatedly mentioning Deco with respect to James for some reason. Must have thought it was you

Some of the passing he put on show today was top level. The one he drilled through the eye of a needle to Digne only for Digne first touch to ruin it was an absolute peach. If Digne had controlled that then laid it across the goal for someone to score that would have been some goal.

Everton actually look pretty decent in the two matches I’ve seen so far.

Think everton is a good fit for him, the play revolves around him and he's the new golden boy at the club unlike his time at the like of madrid and Bayern where he had to fight just for a spot in a team full world class players

Even at Bayern he was a top player. He just had some injury issues and lot of competition there. There was never doubt about his quality though. Just because he didn´t make it at Madrid and Bayern means he is a bad/ washed up player, liike many here stated.

According to Cafe experts, he would have rotten at Madrid bench if Everton hadn't come. He is mentally weak, physically not ready to play here and would be a huge flop.

What a signing for Everton. I would repeat, shows what an established manager can do.
He would've. He needs the team to be built around him – that's why he's still very impressive for Colombia and why he's going to be a success at Everton. Ancelotti is the perfect manager for him, as he's probably the most adaptable top (or close to a top) manager around who had already managed to fit him in a more stacked XI once. Zidane is not a fan of him as James doesn't work hard enough off the ball etc. to be able to play for him as a second fiddle, while he's not talented enough to be the star at Real Madrid.

So yeah, it's a bit of a weird one. He would've stagnated at Madrid and there's a reason why no top-club & clubs with true top aspirations, like us and Chelsea, didn't go for him; but for Everton he's an amazing signing and the apparently missing transfer fee makes it even better.

He looks brilliant so far, if he can keep this up we'll regret not signing him.

He specifically moaned about the Munich climate in an interview though, and how it made hom wonder what he was doing there.

I think he knows Liverpool won't be sunny 300 days in a year, so his career now is more important than some weather.

No one understands Zidane's logic at times. Why do players like Vazquez get to play alot while players like James become marginalized?

Wouldn't go that far. Top player but we have Bruno and Pogba as creative/attacking mids. James would basically be fighting with Bruno... and he wouldn't join unless he was automatic starter/key player IMO. Nothing to regret, can't have all the fun #10's out there.

Plus we have VDB

No one? It's pretty clear. Despite his style as a player, he has became a very pragmatic manager that rates team balance over individual flair. That's why Bale got benched (and sold?), that's why James got benched and sold, that's why Casemiro became a starter and an integral part of his team – the only player he had allowed full freedom from defensive actions was Cristiano, because he had provided 8-9/10 performances week in and week out.

Lucas Vasquez played 23 games last season. 1000 minutes in total which is about 11 matches worth of play time. The players ahead of James were Hazard, Isco and Vinicius. Plus Rodrygo and Bale also took some minutes. In midfield they have Kroos, Casemiro, Modric, Valverde. Vasquez wasn't close to keeping James out of the team.

Thats not the point and context. People were arguing he joined Everton because no one else were for him and would have stagnated at Real.

Fact is he had /he would have had plenty of options around Europe rather than a 12th placed team. He came just because of Ancelotti.

I would want him to play out wide and apparently he not as good out there. With that delivery though he could do a lot of damage out wide still.

Naa, if not for Bruno , probably yes. But Bruno would prove to be a better buy in the long run.

Nah he really doesn't work that well on the wing. Quality as a 10, nothing more than decent out wide.

If you don't know the player and his M.O. I suppose there will be a period of realisation that this guy is erratic beyond belief.
He's really not. His last season at Bayern is the only one in which you could maybe say that, i don't know. Last season he played so little it meaningless to judge

In his 3 seasons with us he was consistently world class. Why Zidane didn't like him is the big question, because he was always one of the best players on the pitch whenever he did play him
Signed for more than 60 million, released on a free at age 29.

That's a Torres level "yikes" in terms of money.
Considering we only effectively got 3 seasons out of it, yeah
3 years ago he was loaned to Bayern with the option to buy for 30m euros. Clearly Real wanted him off the books and like us with Sanchez did not fall prey to the sunken cost fallacy.
Was signed 6 years ago, fully ammortized by now. Hence no sunk cost letting him go for free
