Film James Bond is the Worst Spy In the Entire World...

Just rewatched Casino Royale.

It's still too serious for Bond, which was my initial criticism. The 'torture' scene is just far too dark for the series. I was similarly appalled by the rape and murder of Felix Leiter's wife in License To Kill which I thought was unnecessary and didn't fit in with the films in general.

There are positives though. Le Chiffre is quite a good villain, and Vesper is very close to being the best looking Bond girl(after Stacey in A View To A Kill). I'd have preferred a few more good one-liners and a little bit of silliness attached to it, but this is the new direction they're taking.

Skyfall should be interesting. I hope Daniel Craig smiles at some point.

That's true. Le Chiffre seemed to get a lot of pleasure out of that, which lead me to consider how many James Bond villains were probably gay.

I settled on Drax and Dr No. Proper benders.

But they was trying to make a bond more in line with the Ian Fleming books and did a very good job of that, also it never needed to be in line with the series of Bond movies as it was a relaunch ignoring all previous Bond movies so was really the first in a new series of movies.

It needed to go darker in order for the series to regain some credibility, surfing tsunami's and invisible cars had become the norm.

Very true although they was still enjoyable they was taking things to far which is a shame because I think Pierce Brosnan had the potential to be the best Bond, really believe he had everything the role requires

Peoples opinion of Bond actors seem to come down to personal tastes, many would list Roger Moore as their favourite and I will admit to having a soft spot for Roger and enjoying his movies but his portrayal of the James Bond charachter was probably the worst of all the actors in the official Bond movies.

The trouble with most of you cnuts is that you didn't see these films in the cinema when they were first released. They are silly now but at the time were fantastic. Even the older ones could only be seen at Christmas or on bank holidays and so were big events.

These days the films have to compete with Bourne etc. but back then they were the shizzle and the only game in town.

good man Grin.

my memories as well. They were great fun.

Yep, Casino Royale was a good start for a new style of Bond movie. The second one was shit though.

Honestly, do you want me to post some Rienzi excerpts just to annoy?
The man was an absolute embarrassment.

Goldeneye was great, though.

Connery was by far the best, but he did tarnish his Bond image with the truly bad Never say Never again.
Rodger Moore suffered with some dreadful scripts, just look at Moonraker it had just what you need for a good film, but still sucked big time, mind you it does have the best one liner at the end of a film ever.
Moore's Bond also has some of the best toys.

I would venture that most people's perception of the 'best' Bond is the one they grew up with. I used to think Brosnan was the best Bond for a long time. It took a while to come around to the new (or original if you like) style of Bond but I like it now.

To be fair Never say Never again is not a official Bond movie but Connery was great and probably the best bond he is certainly the picture I had in my head when reading the Ian Flemining books although he may have been at a advantage there with his movies been made in the 60's and books been written in the 50's.

I'd agree about Roger Moore maybe suffering bad scripts but I think the same can be said for Brosnan I just think the problem with Moore was that he was to much about the comedy I don't think you could reall believe he was a ruthless killer in the way you could with the Connery Bond or even with the Pierce Brosnan Bond like when he shot dead a unarmed Elektra King from point blank range in The World is not Enough i'm not sure if you would have ever got such a killing from Roger Moore (although it's probably been a few years since I've watched any of his movies)

Brosnan was OK and I thought GoldenEye was his best Bond.
The Elektra King killing was brutal but in line with the film, she said many times he would not kill her, so really did not have a choice.
Given better scripts Moore could of been better than Connery, Moore I thought played his Bond very much like he played the Saint, always more on the side of humour.

Bond is my guilty pleasure, I have watched them all many time and enjoy them everytime.

Disagree I think Craig is a brilliant Bond and the whole franchise needed bringing up to date.

Goldeneye was without doubt his best Bond movie, in fact I think his best to worst movies went in the order he made them I thought Tomorrow Never Dies was really good.

Back to Moore growing up I think I actually preferred him to Connery but like you say he played the role more like the Saint which I actually think was the problem it's really not the way James Bond is supposed to be in my opinion although I don't think I began to change my opinion in favour of Connery over Moore untill I started reading the original Ian Fleming novels.

Out of curiousity as you seem to be a big fan of the movies have you ever read the fleming books? I haven't read them all I kind of stopped but always intended on going back to them.

I have never read any of the book, maybe I should.
Playing the Saint is what I think got Moore the job has Bond, maybe they wanted a different sort of Bond after Connery.
After all The Saint and Bond are both very smiler, rich, flamboyant playboys, this works for a freelance like the Saint but not for Bond working in the Secret Service.
I like the way the new Bond is being played, more like the Connery Bond with added edge.

You should give them a read they are great books if your a fan of bond, he really is a fantastic character

Saw this at the beginning of the year, I'd just bought the DVD boxset for my girlfriend for Christmas last year, and they announced this in February or something. Was a bit annoyed, the DVD versions were fine but I really would have liked to have this boxset. Not even that expensive (£88 on Amazon) considering there's 22 films in there.

I had them on DVD but bought the blu rays anyway, it's a brilliant set, both the discs and the package it comes in

It's the bint in the Aston Martin at the beginning who says that, the one who's sent to assess him.

'I enjoy a spirited ride as much as the next girl'
Ferrari pulls along side
'who's that?'
'the next girl'

Then he races the chick in the Ferrari before producing a bottle of bubbly in the car, Moneypenny later chastised him for sleeping with the woman sent to assess him.

It's not Moneypenny.

Both the Craig and Dalton films were very much trying to go in a new direction and both actors have attempted to portray Bond as he originally was, which was more serious. You seem like you know your stuff, so I'm probably stating the World is round here, but still.

I like that Craig is a bit more serious. In terms of plot, it gave me a sense that because his films are prequels, that he was initially a bit more sinister and intense before being a 00 Agent.

It also makes me appreciate Craig's quips even more and there are a few, which he delivers in a very dry way.

I watched Licence To Kill the other day. I quite liked it until he started doing wheelies in a truck. That was a truly awful moment, it was right up there with Brosnan windsurfing.
