Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

Pogba wanted to come back for "unfinished Business" as he called it. He was here as a young lad and got the taste. Sancho was never here so he would not be missing anything.

He’s lived in Manchester so knows what a super club Manchester United is.

I mean, feck knows man, Pogba’s reason (unfinished business) is as flimsy as any. Players don’t all think the same, for some money is everything, some it’s location, some is manager (Zlatan > United) etc etc. Sancho maybe feels he wants to light up his home country but doesn’t want to go back to City? As I say, whi knows?
Why people like you want to come and dismiss the idea when United have signed more “star” players since Fergie left than ever before is beyond me. City, PSG & Chelsea over the past 20 years should have taught us a thing or two.

Why do people think we will sign Jadon Sancho, and if he would come here. Firstly he would cost a fortune and secondly all the big clubs would be in for him.
Same reason when people think we will sign De Ligt back in summer. I mean, just take a look at how many pages we have on De Ligt thread. People are just muppets by nature.

He will, but being English you'd wager he'd fancy the Premier League above all else.

City... would he fancy going back or would he prefer to join a rival?
I'm nervous with the Dortmund link and Klopp/Pool potentially stirring something up in the pipeline...

They spent absolutely nothing this season to help them with that too... :nervous:

I agreed with you man, this Summer you'd be extremely naive to think he'd chose United over Real. Summer 2012 though, who knows... I certainly don't.

For what it's worth, Alonso left Pool cause Benitez tried to flog him and replace him with Gareth Barry, we all know that. Gerrard they wanted on two occasions but didn't get him.

But of course you've fallen for it, think of the ridiculous number of World Class players that haven't played for Madrid. Do you really think that's simply because Madrid didn't want them? Come on man, surely you realise the idea is laughable and has been perpetuated by Madrid propaganda and a few high profile signings?

I'll say it again to bring us back on track, on an almost level playing field footing football wise, manager wise and wage wise, Jadon Sancho could choose Barca, Madrid, Man City, Juve, United, Bayern, Liverpool, Chelsea.... I have absolutely no idea which he'd chose because I don't know what he values most. I imagine though, he like most English players would chose the Premier League over La Liga. And something I do know for certain is the idea he'd defo chose Madrid is as daft as the idea that De Ligt would defo chose Barca this Summer.
I can't really argue with much of that tbf, my initial comment was probably overblown. I still think Real are generally the most attractive club out there to play for (and I really don't know where this propaganda thing is coming from, I hate Real) but I'll concede that's probably not the case with English players in some, if not many, cases.

It would be just like us to spend whole season lining up a move and being strung along to see him stay at Dortmund or move elsewhere.

A good season and he will have world at his feet in the summer, doubt we will be serious contenders unless we overpay.

How this season goes will make a big difference. Top 4, attacking football, and all the United England contingent in his ear at the Euros, who knows?

Which is my only point in fairness.

We all know the vast majority of players see Madrid or Barca as the "top of the game", but that absolutely isn't true for Italiens, English or Germans, and as De Ligt proved, it's not always the case for other nationalities either.
De Ligt went to juventus because they offered him 3 times what barca was offering. Ultimately football is a profession for these people, for the vast majority offer will trump any childhood dream or whichever team they think is the top of the game. De Ligt, Mbappé, Pogba, all turned down madrid or barcelona because someone else made them a better offer, in terms of both money and guarantees of playing time. And by doing that showed them they wanted them more.

De Jong was about to sign PSG, turning down an offer by barcelona in the process, until they came back and matched PSG's offer. Only then did he sign for them

Saw a quote from Moratti a few years back that Inter wanted to pay over £30m for Scholes in 2000 and Scholes told him if he wanted him to play for him he'd have to buy Manchester United
Moratti tried to sign Ryan Giggs for like 5 or 6 consecutive years

Pogba wanted to come back for "unfinished Business" as he called it. He was here as a young lad and got the taste. Sancho was never here so he would not be missing anything.
Pogba wanted to comeback for unfinished business. But he came back for £300k a week

Pogba's basic wage when he rejoined us was £165k a week, I believe.

PP should not play as a part of a midfield duo. Either as a CAM or attacking LCM together with two midfielders with the ability on the ball and can actually play out of defense.

If we can get Sancho and two midfielders that are good on the ball(Not Rice and Longstaff) then we should be able to compete with Tottenham for the third spot and be safe for a top 4 finish.

All this hinges on us getting CL qual.

I don’t think we’d be buying Sancho and two midfielders with a view to finishing 4th!

Not with the view of finish 4th, but it takes more than just having a good team on paper to be able to challenge Liverpool and City.
We should first focus on having a team that can get top 4 with some margin, create relations between the players and a functional way of playing before we try to compete with City and Pool.

Why do some think we have no chance? Ornstein already said we had a good chance. If we can get top 4, our English rivals for his signature would be Chelsea and Liverpool. Chelsea have a good chance of not getting top 4. If Sancho is our guy, it will be tough for Liverpool to outbid us. Though you can never know with the summer they had and with Klopp there.

Barca are linked with Neymar as are Real Madrid. Whoever gets Neymar I would imagine they would be gone from the race. So of course we have a chance.

This is fair.

Would City not go in for him if they sold Sane or even Mahrez for that matter? Another theory is when David Silva retires at the end of the season, they may shift Bernardo Silva in the middle which frees up an opportunity on the right? Or has he made it perfectly clear that he wouldn’t go back there, no matter if they made a move for him?

Liverpool will only have a chance of getting him if one of their front 3 leave (Salah, Firminio, Mane).

The Neymar point is an interesting one as whoever doesn’t get him, may potentially move for Sancho as a plan b? Or even PSG unless they already have a replacement for Neymar?

I feel if we get top 4 this year and play some good entertaining attacking football that suits Jadon’s style, we have a good chance of getting him. I’ve no doubt got a feeling this is the guy the club are hell bent on signing. You noticed there was no reputable links with any RW this summer when it was clear that it’s a gaping hole in our team that badly needs addressed.

David Ornstein has said that Sancho's preference if he was to return to England would be Manchester United.

It's perfectly feasible for Sancho to go for more than £100m. City wouldn't spend that money, particularly on a player they lost for pennies. We can and will spent that on the right player.

I always wonder why this is taken as gospel. German media reported nothing of the sort, despite this potential €100m-€150m transfer supposedly being nailed on (until it suddenly wasn't I guess). In May he wrote "a couple of months ago", which I guess means a transfer was negotiated/agreed during the final days of Mourinho/early days of Solskjaer, when United were in 6th place? But then suddenly United appeared unstable and CL football in doubt and so a games of football changed a firm yes towards a 5 year commitment to United's vision into a no?

Was January when it heated up a bit and continued when we were on our hot run. Our end of season was a disaster so he was certainly within his rights to maybe see what happened with us this season.

Ornstein said "it looked nailed on a few months back" which from my understanding means the Sancho camp were wanting a move at that stage. We were also winning and playing some good stuff in that period. Even Journalist Adrian Kajumba who is thought to have links to the Sancho camp said the same. We still could've been rebuffed by Watzke and co, but the players will may have been decisive.

The German media possibly don't have the inside line on Sancho hence reporting nothing.

I have no doubt we will go all-out for him next summer, and we will get him. I can't see Solskjaer looking past the best young British winger in the market. Daniel James is a stopgap and will be the designated back-up when Sancho arrives.

Maybe I'm being pedantic, but I'd hardly call a transfer nailed on just because a player is signaling interest, when he still has a long term contract.

I agree.

But the point was that he preferred joining us over the rest of the English clubs. I think we'll sign him for a sum in excess of a £100m next summer. We also have a good relationship with Watzke and Zorc so that should help.

Does anyone else feel that we could have our own Sancho already at our club in Mason Greenwood? Couple of years younger yes, but I feel if we buy Sancho, wouldn’t that become a hinderance on Greenwoods opportunities?

I know that Greenwood has played as a striker but I’m pretty sure in pre season he played on the right. He even played on the right when he came on as a substitute over the weekend.

I think Sancho is just one of those "Glamour" signings that a lot of people seem to crave.

Greenwood has all the attributes to play as a winger; pace, both footed, intelligent runs, dribbling and a great shot....

Anyone else share this view?

I'd rather sacrifice Mata, Lingard, Periera etc when it comes to that. Sancho is the perfect RW for us. And Greenwood is our biggest young talent. There should be more than enough room for both if we're willing to slim the squad (which we already have a little with Lukaku gone).

They're two different types of players. Greenwood can't do what Sancho can do, and Sancho likely won't be able to do what Greenwood can do. I see Greenwood as our striker of the future and Sancho our RW of the future. They're both the best talents of their age group. We would do well to have both of them.

What if Sancho wanted to come but the club saw him too expensive at this point? We're out of the CL and we couldn't find money to replace Herrera or Lukaku.

If I recall correctly a few sources (including Ornstein) claimed that we had a deal “basically wrapped up for him” but it collapsed after we missed out on the Champions League.

According to Ole we will adopt a survival of the fittest strategy and all players leaving would end up being replaced. Bottom line of the story alot of BS is said about us even from official sources let alone non official ones

Depends on the season Real will have but i could see them going for Mane/Salah next season. Klopp could use the money to make some changes and bringing in Sancho would surely spice things up.

Chelsea will also be in the race, they're linked with Zaha but Sancho would be the much smarter investment. Overall it would have been better to buy someone good this season and still try to bring in Sancho next.

With CL football United are in a very good position, but we must keep hold of Pogba, IMO.
