Although I agree that Sancho isn't all we need, he is still the single biggest need. We need strength in depth, but we also need world class players. If it's a choice between one world class player and four decent players, I'd go with option A every time.
If we can get Sancho, and still manage to sign two decent unhyped/ under the radar players for "cheap", that's my choice.
Examples of unhyped, under the radar, or just cheap/available options:
- Koopmeiners was mentioned in the "What do we still need?" thread. Would he be expensive? He seems to fit the bill as a DM, but he comes from the Eresdivisie which is hit or miss.
- Ryan Fraser is a free agent, and a better option than Lingard, Pereira and Mata, but he's probably not up to the standard we need I guess?
- King won't cost much, and is versatile and decent, but I guess most fans won't be happy with that type of signing.
- Malang Sarr is a young free agent left footed CB who's apparently been decent in League 1 this season, but I know nothing other than that.
- Both Gabriel and Badiashile seems to be good alternatives, but they've been more hyped lately, which probably adds a lot to their price tags.
If we somehow can get Sancho plus any 1 of Upamecano, VdB, Grealish, Rice etc, that would of course be the better option, but I really don't think that's realistic.
Sign Sancho plus any 1 or 2 low key players in positions of need while getting rid of a lot of deadwood, and I'll be a happy camper. But going for 4 decent players, and no one in the "world class" category gets us nowhere in my opinion. Next season make moves for Neves, Rice, Upamecano, etc.
We are desperate for him and Grealish but I can understand the financial issues currently but we need at least one.
Now Dortmund will be even more determined to get the money they asked for.

It's a start, you have to know we won't just a good squad in a year. It will take time but we must get signings right. Buying AWB and Maguire for the quoted price is not the right way though.

But no one can say that Griezmann and Dembele were not stars before they went to Barca so Barca went to buy them.
We got Sanchez and he was a total flop.

I have no idea what you're on about, essentially the alternatives you've listed are: Insane disasters for record fees vs mediocre players for shite prices, makes sense.
Listing Dembele and Griezmann as positive examples of "spending whats required to get what's needed" is mental. Overall Barcelonas transfers in the past 4-5 years has been a fecking disaster, and that's putting it mildly, absolute shambles to the point where they are doing transfers to balance their books.
I saw him communicating a fair bit last night, and barring the 2nd goal I thought he was fine.
We don't have any "bargaining power" anyway. Dortmund want a figure. We will pay it, but won't pay the extra fees which are silly to the agent dealing with the transfer.

The Barca situation is a unique one as both players occupy the same space as Messi. They never should have been signed in the first place as clearly there was never a plan how to integrate them. Barca panicked when Neymar left and signed the biggest names they could.
Yeah! And compare that to the relatively small amounts Liverpool have paid on players like Robertson, Mane, Salah and Fabinho. There are very good players out there available to seriously strengthen us that won’t cost a bomb. A Sancho type signing should be a cherry on top type signing once we are fully equipped in all the other positions in my opinion

You can't miss an opportunity to sign a Sancho like talent. There's no guessing the advantage he would have been last night and also the ability to bring on the likes of Greenwood for say Rashford who struggled.
At the same time it is important we structure the deal correctly to have the capital for investments in either CB, CDM or both. I don't believe we need fullbacks like others do.
Shaw is our LB and we'd have been better with him last night.
AWB needs to improve next season and hopefully Laird steps into the squad to put pressure on him.

It's not exactly a unique situation, they've spent around €520mill on Dembele, Griezmann, Coutinho, De Jong and Malcolm.
People complain about our transfers being dodgy......Barcelona have barely signed anyone decent since the summer of 2014, and they've spent a lot of money in that period (around €1200mill]
Have no idea why we bring Barca into this even as a comparison of spending.
We are on a journey to Arsenal standard mediocrity if we don’t bring in players who can be pivotal in moving forward. We have one in Bruno but we need another plus 2 more talented players in key positions

Not sure if it's quite as severe as needing to add 4 world class players to the starting XI, but like you said, expectations need to be realistic.
I'd be expecting us to/happy with consolidating our top 4 position - closing the points gap to City and Pool in the process - plus turning one of our semi-final exits into a trophy.
Sancho plus a couple of squad additions should be enough to achieve this, although I'm wary of how our rivals are building this summer. We need to be doing the same.
Yeah and they both flopped. Barca is a complete and utter mess right now. They only thing keeping them relevant is Messi.
Liverpool on the other hand only spent big on VVD, because there was no other player who fit their profile and was cheaper. It's not the money you spend. It's how you spend it.
