Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

If, and I know it’s a big if, Sancho doesn’t sign this season, would you like to sign a second choice RW (Coman, Bailey, Sarr etc) or wait until next year to try and sign Sancho again?
In other words, can we neglect that RW signing for another year now that we have Mason Greenwood stepping up? I know if we get hit by an injury we are looking very low on quality, this was exasperated by Daniel James’ performance against Lask on Weds night.
Next January the earliest to sign Sancho.

If Sancho not joining, we should still get new players. Grealish would be my choice. Sarr is not a bad additional choice either.

We still need to offload/sell players <-- we haven't so far isn''t it.
Sanchez doesn't count.

We should go on and sign a RW. Maybe we should go for someone cheap (Brooks?) or who could play in different roles (ex Zaniolo or Coman) but we can't afford not buying a RW.

I also think we're signing a RW (probably Sancho)

A- If rumours are true United and Dortmund had already agreed on the fee AND on paying it in installments. There's just a 10m discrepancy between what Dortmund want and what United had offered regarding the initial fee (ie the one paid this year)
B- Lingard and Mata are on sale and we're working to send Chong on loan

Not easy as said, how about a scenario when multiple club interested in him next season or year after that, this year we don't find much competition, having said that I wouldn't say that we should bend for whatever Dortmund demands but need to find the middle ground where both clubs happy with the trade.
Unfortunately, United is not a wise player in the market when no competition is places. As a loner we usually get robbed for tons of money, period. Not that we are noted for winning when competing with rivals for one signature, but I do believe we are able to get in better positions in negotiations. "We can do things in the market...", in a sense in which we can match almost every offer (disregarding PSG). With millions on the low for many, we can get even a better deal than the kind of the rumored one (Big chunk at first, instalements, obvious performance add ons).
What is the issue if multiple clubs are interested next season? How many clubs out there can match our financial offer? Also if Sancho doesn't want to come here when more clubs are interested, maybe it's for the better then. Stop being so insecure about it. Our position is extremely strong and Dortmund knows it. 12 months down the line with huge gate receipt losses, a lot of clubs will be reluctant to pay the transfer fee that they might even afford this year. If not then getting players which doesn't want to play here got us into this mess.

For all accounts right now, he wants to come. We are not asked 10-20m, 120m euros is huge amount, it's almost 1/5th of our revenue. No club which is self sufficient can take such decisions lightly. The amount of insecurity that is their in our fanbase is staggering. We are not some small club and even next year we will have good enough chance to land Sancho. Financial health of United is also important so that we don't stop just at getting Sancho.
If a bidwar were to unfold next summer, we could easily outbid the best offer and it will no doubt be less than this year, is not a bad piece of business, if you look at it.

Financial health signs have been coming lately, despite the obvious hit that covid means for every single actor of the football chain, freeing up funds for Sanchez salary and one to three more departures of absolut fossils to come by; rumored transfer kitty is not that miserable either.

The only delicate aspect is that we are badly starving, for so many years, for a pleyer like what we imagine Sancho can be to wear the colors of Manchester United.

Why wouldn't he? Its a better side with a better manager
Wouldn`t he rather just wait out one year then instead of agreeing a contract with us? Dortmund seems to be a very good club and they would like to keep him as well.

He wants to come home and let's face it, the Bundesliga is not a top league either

BBC report said Sancho signed 190k p/w deal in 2019 ''Sancho New Contract in 2019''

Are they really going to double that 190k p/w? Go for it then.

it's briefing games. all the talk about us having a personal terms deal with sancho and BVB's response is "if you walk away, we'll double his contract and you'll have to pay him even more next window". BVB haven't said they will double his wage, they have told the media they will, just to spook MUFC's personal terms.

Look at how we briefed the UK media about BVB being delusional on price and we'll walk.......well where is the walk away? Where is the brief to the BBC like they did with dybala when that all got called off? As Romano has said, it's all PR games and both sides are talking about the structure of a deal. If we can agree a deal, we get sancho, if the parties cannot agree, we'll get a huge wave of briefing to say we've walked on price.

Imo we should look for a loan and see what's next. Jason is still very young and I don't think he'd sign a new deal. Another year and he'd leave on a free with a huge contract wherever he goes. And imo Dortmund is just trying to bluff with the new deal story. Sancho is reportedly on £190k a week at Dortmund and is already one of the highest earners there. Giving him, a 20 yo kid a huge raise will not only break their wages structure but unsettle the likes of Reus etc. as well.

Of the clubs that can afford the kind his wages us remain his most favourable destination I think. He would need to be ensure a starting position and he would not have that at PSG, Madrid, Barca, Juve, Liverpool, Bayern. City as long as Pep is there won't sign him. Chelsea just signed a load of attackers and Arsenal, Spurs just don't have the money. Maybe ATM is our biggest threat but he'd like to come back to England so not much imo.

I understand why Dortmund taking a hard stand in this. Reducing their asking price would create a bad precedent for future sales. But as far as this saga goes, we still have the upper hand I think. It's still in the best interest of Dortmund to sell him this summer.

According to Bild, they want to raise his salary to 10m/yr in case Ed doesn't cough up the money. They did the same thing with Lewa back then.
I know in the end he left on a free to Bayern but did they actually offer Lewan that new deal?

Btw he's currently on £190k a week or £9m a year. He'd supposedly on ~£300k a week if signed for us so the new deal Dortmund is talking about should be around £15m a year I think?

He's already on 10m/yr last year. Did you not click the BBC link that I posted?

He's currently at 6m. I'd trust Bild more than the BBC in things concerning german clubs.
I had a look around and you seems right I think. Most papers in English say £190k a week but most people in the forums say €6m. Well that simply put this saga on a whole new perspective I think.

He should turn into a crap player for them next season in protest

I really don't think he'd be so bothered by sticking around for another year to potentially have more options. If he was so desperate to leave, he'd be pushing for the move

I can't see this deal happening.Ed thought he can take Dortmund for the ride but he has messed up again.

we got a better deal on Bruno and we ended up paying the asking prices for Maguire and Wan-Bissaka. The only deal we've walked from unsuccessfully was dybala.

We supposedly "warned BVB that we'll walk on price" 3 days ago. What are they talking about if "Ed has stuffed this up"?

I did not realise he was on such a good wage at Dortmund and while I think we will eventually pay a big fee for him I do not think we will pay a wage that is that much more than what he already earns.
There was a wages list printed in the Sun the other day and De Gea, Pogba, Martial and Rashford were the top earners and I would think that Sancho would not be on the same money straight away as that might ruffle a few feathers.

My mate wanted Fjortofts autograph so we stayed behind after a game in Ipswich, me being me I was singing “Are you Klinsman in disguise” as he was a diver like Klinsman. The cu*t decided to go for me and a few local fans managed to grab him, I was about 15 years old but the worst part was my mate didn’t get the autograph and didn’t speak to me for several months!!!!
Haha, good work fella.

Here’s what I don’t get. Obviously Dortmund try to squeeze every penny that they can from this deal, which is fair enough. Yet, they push for the highest possible initial installment when Man City are taking 15% of this.
As far as i know (and I might be wrong on this one), bonus clauses don’t count towards the sell-on amount. So if those bonus clauses are easily achievable in his second season in United (say, 20m after 35 league games), then there’s your second installment while also Dortmund make bigger profit.

We'll get him, it just doesn't look to me like our bargaining has been up to scratch. No idea why Sancho would sign a new deal, unless its still expiring when the one he's already on does, he wants out. Still just a matter of time.

I can't see where the woody has cocked this up comes from. Dortmund have said from the start they want 108-120 mill depending who you read and if no bid by Sunday then no deal. They haven't shifted their stance. Woody ( or the Glazers) said he couldnt justify 100 million on one player due to the virus before the transfer window opened. There hasn't been one official lower offer reported in any media. Unless I also think if we were buying him then as others have said, it would have been done on the 7th and given the no 7 shirt. This sounds like the Strootman or Griezman scenario all over again. I hope I'm wrong, but looking less likely every day.

Every transfer window Glazers/Ed/ etc manage to tarnish our reputation with these dealings.

Glazers have made 1 billion plus from our club and they hold out till the very very end.

To me it seems both clubs have a level field in dictating the transfer terms. I do not think one side is in a better position than other. It all comes down to who wants him more.

From ManUtd’s perspective, even with the current financial status i think he is worth it at anything around £100m. Yes, it may seem a lot to some but if he does not flop then in a season or two he will be worth almost the double of this price. By next season anything could happen. His price could even reduce a lot and you never know, even if there is competition, he may still want to move to ManUtd.

But again from our perspective i think it is best to buy him now because we plan to retain him long term so his value will rise instantly, as the market gets better.
What seems to be happening is that EdWoodward is trying to save anything that he can. Which is ok but then i wonder how things would have went if we got Fernandes in summer.

Overall, right now the best value we are getting in is that we are even able to buy a player like this. Because last 15-20 games of this season aside, the club as a whole and the team have a lot to prove to the world about our credentials to rejoin the elite.

The clubs have been negotiating for days now. If this was going nowhere, we would have moved on by now.
Also, I don’t understand why people expect us to make an official bid. It is just a formality. Under those circumstances, if United make an official bid, then Sancho might as well already be in the plane to Manchester. Official bid means feck all.

It won't be clear until we get him and at what figure we get him ,but one thing is certain once the deal is done both parties would leak transfer's fee's justifying their stance and claim vindication.

Instead of 100m for sancho, we could sign a left footed Left Cb & CDM with money to spare. This would make our team much stronger.

I'd love sancho, but he's not the be all.

If we could get Zaha for around 50m with Lingard going the other way, it would suit all parties imo

Still people saying they'd take Zaha :wenger: I'm at a loss for words that people aren't taking the piss. Clearly never watched Sancho properly or Zaha for that matter.

Except us who would then have a poor-average winger for the 2nd time.

I'm still absolutely certain this will be done. Haggling and posturing aside, we're not going to fail on our biggest transfer since Pogba because of 10m.

Seems obvious to me too. People could argue we should have just paid the money right away, but I get why we've done it like this, because why wouldn't you try and get him for less? To be seen to just giving them what they want wouldn't have been the best look, even if in the end we do.

How do you buy a player without an official bid? For example we bid £60 mill for Maguire and that was reported all over the media and leicester turned it down. If we dont make a bid then how are we showing we are after the player? If we just pay what they are asking, he would already be signed, then the next big name player we are after, his club will want £140 mill knowing we will just pay it.

Official bid is usually a formality and happens once you agree on the fee before that.

I think the only real chance of us walking is if we offer a total of 120m but BVB just won't budge on the semantics of how that is made up. If woodward wanted to pay a total of 70-80 million and BVB said no deal unless it's 120, we'd already have the dybala-type briefs.

We are literally there. In Dortmund’s HQ, negotiating for the player. I think they are aware of our interest.

Going off the idea. There are more pressing areas to strengthen elsewhere, and this is a lot of money.
