Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

We’ve seen it many times before. Players putting big Numbers in Bundesliga. Then change League and cannot do it here.
How many ’Dortmund Stars’ have actually made it after being sold? Auba comes to mind. Dortmund likes to overprice their players for sure. Kagawa and Mkhi was also putting big Numbers over there. Thw quality of PLand Bundesliga is Night and day.

You're the type of person that would say that about Mbappe if we were signing him. Probably CR7 too when he transferred over from Sporting Lisbon. Sancho has obvious quality, he's very young and fills a role we've been missing for donkeys years. Mhki was older and couldn't adapt. Plus Sancho is coming into our most promising team post SAF. He's a player we need, this isn't the typical Marquee signing like Di Maria, Falcao etc. Greenwood has played well in that role, but he's a ST and we obviously need depth up front. Imagine one of Rashford/Martial/Greenwood getting injured. Lingards then on the pitch...

Imagine being even slightly worried, there's not a single doubt in my mind. Poor buggers.
I get worried looking at stuff like this from the BBC: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/53658335

BBC is a top source and they are tier 1 for a reason. "Far apart in valuation" seems likely, especially given the revenue United have lost as a result of the pandemic. "Looking for alternatives" also seems likely, given that we already have a good attack. I don't see Dortmund budging in price, and if the Glazers don't sanction such an outlay on one player, the deal won't get done this year.

Also, many bookies suspended betting on Sancho's next club a couple days ago. They've opened up the books again for it today.

I am really hoping it's all bluster, but I'm not enjoying yesterday evening's turn of events.

Why do clubs prefer to use intermediaries for big transfers these days? It must make things excruciatingly slow for all involved. I’m sure they have to report back every minute detail as it happens, too. Might as well have Woodward and Zorc trash out the deal in person, FFS!

It’s been reported multiple times that a neutral third party is negotiating too. Just like almost every single transfer.

Don't fall into the trap of believing all this briefed stuff, will be sorted so just relax and enjoy the game tonight

They are specialists in dealing with these big sums. This deal is not just £100m and lets go, it's going to involve alot more than that.

Manutd will have to prove they have the finances to be able to pay this money, you need someone who is skilled to carry out these deals to protect both the seller and the buyer.

3 days later: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48989647

It’ll be done soon.

Far apart in valuation is a good thing. Despite what Dortmund claim there is plenty of time to get this done and we are the only other party. We should be driving a hard bargain right now and calling their bluff.

Very easy to spot who the veteran muppets are going through this thread.

I’m glad we have a game going on tonight to take my mind off this for two hours. Then it’s back to here after the final whistle

That was your first mistake. Believing all this Tier nonsense.

BBC are "tier 1" because they only report what they've been told by the clubs - but it doesn't mean they're privy to everything. Let's be honest Stone and the likes are well behind when it comes to the fast world of transfers.

1. Wait for player to make a scene to lower the price
2. Wait for players contract to expire
3. Look for another RW

We will pay the same amount that Chelsea pay for Werner, Ziyech AND Havertz combined. So stupid, but Woodward never learns.

We’ve seen it many times before. Players putting big Numbers in Bundesliga. Then change League and cannot do it here.

Im not saying Sancho isnt talented. Probably the most shining RW out there. The price is just obscure as the fact player wants to leave, 2 years left and still Young and pretty unproven.

Regarding the number of successful players, I already addressed this in a previous post, not specifically about Dortmund however, but the German League in general:

I looked at all the transfers for the last 20 years from the German league and I ignored the rubbish or obscure transfers. Not really hard to find a few that fit the criteria. The fact that we can find four very obvious world class players is telling, plus several players who have had a big impact players or at least have been or were pretty good. Then there is a substantial list including a handful of players, some of which who you could argue had a decent impact for their respective clubs as well.

World Class:
Aubameyang - One of the best strikers in the league.
Kompany - Best defender of the last 8 years.
de Bruyne - Best player this season. One of the best players in the league. Probably the best midfielder in the world.
Karius - United Legend.

Big Impact:
Pulisic - Tearing it up this season.
Heung-min Son - Arguably one of Spurs best players.
Firmino - Vital player for Liverpool's title win.
Sané - One of the best attacking players in the league.

Good impact:
Hargreaves - Contributed to our CL and PL double.
Djorkaeff - Helped Bolton reach a league cup final.
Lehmann - Part of the Arsenal unbeatable team.
Berbatov - Helped spurs win the league cup, won honours with us and also PL boot 2010/11.
Okazaki - Helped Leicester win the league.
Christian Fuchs - Helped Leicester win the league.

Other ones of note that weren't so good or probably didn't quite make the desired impact of your criteria:
Keita
Origi
Söyüncü
Leno
Ballack
Rosicky
Hleb
Pienaar
Dzeko
Jerome Boateng
Demba Ba
Cisse
Kagawa
Sigurdsson
Van der Vaart
Claudio Pizarro
Schürrle
Arnautovic
Can
Christensen

To say he is unproven well there is a lot of information which suggests the contrary. He has over 100 appearances for Dortmund in three seasons, scoring 34 goals. He has 11 appearances for England and was part of the U17 World Cup winning team and third place for UEFA Nations.

In my mind it does not make sense to say that just because he is from Dortmund he is going to fail and use two previous players as an example. You are correct that Kagawa and Miki failed. However, they failed because of certain traits of the players and the conditions at United, rather than anything about Dortmund specifically. With regards to Sancho, he knows Manchester having lived in City, he was raised in the UK so he knows about the culture here as well. The only question mark is whether he can adapt to the league, but you can say that about any player really.

The price is high, but he is one of the best young players in the world and he deservedly commands that fee. Hazard went for 100m with one year left, Coutinho went for an absurd fee as did Dembele. Actually, having thought about it, spending £80m plus some add-ons or whatever seems reasonable to me. You could argue maybe we are spending too much post-covid, but you have to trust that the financial people at the club will budget this accordingly and there is no reason to suggest (not that you did but just saying in general) we are going down the path of a Leeds and spending beyond our means.

Why haggle when you can get a professional haggler to do it for you?

I guess they're transfer specialists who do all the paperwork and make life easy.

I know this prick is banned and for good reason.. but what you’ve said there reminded me of this..

This was after he’d called out Romano

Go and read their articles on Maguire/Bruno 3/5 days before we signed them. Copy paste of what they`ve written about Sancho don`t take everything they are saying at face value the fact that now is when they are getting intel on something the German press reported this morning shows how far behind the English press are to this story.

This deal won't get done, its 120m euros plus agent fee which is around 50m euros.

Proves fabrizo and Falk are ahead of the curve than the English journalists re jadon's transfer

Yeah everyone just needs to listen to Fabrizio. The guy is as good as there is for any major transfer to follow. Things change in football and he'll always say that, sometimes there are last minute changes but he knows his shit and says it like it is.

right? must be one of the worst the BBC got.

I think he is a very good journalist. He seems to be reporting based on direct sources from the club whereas Romano seems to be reporting based on agents as his sources of information. It is less likely that the club will feed any (meaningful) information about the progress of a deal until they are absolutely sure it is done, whereas an agent may be more willing to do so. This is why Simon Stone will "lag" behind.

You also have to be aware of the fact that the BBC do not engage much in transfer rumours. Admittedly they do have a rumours section where I think they aggregate external news stories of the day. But the BBC themselves only post information about transfers when they are very close or confirmed. So it does not make sense that their journalist in direct contact with someone at United is going to make posts like Romano does.

All in all, they are both good journalists, covering different aspects of journalism. If you want something definitive, you read Stone's articles. If you want the bleeding edge latest (which has more scope to sudden changes), you read Romano's tweets.
