Why can't we sign a top player as quickly and as straight forward as others clubs do? If Woodward had his way we would probably hire George RR Martin as out DOF/chief negotiator

City go and sign Torres and Ake just like that to improve their team to compete. Meanwhile, Woodward is more focused on winning the 'social media' trophy.

Comparing signing one of the very best talents in the world from a top team, to signing a bloke from a relegated side and a young talent from a side needing to sell. Who needs logic when you can throw a little tantrum.

Come on lad, it's not straight forward. Sancho is a generational talent worth over 100m. He's one of the hottest prospects around.

It's not like Chelsea have moved any quicker on Havertz, which looks a more straight forward deal.

What does this mean? Like honestly why is this your criticism. Either we’re actually trying to get the fee down, because our finances aren’t in as good a state as we the fans think OR it’s actually been done and we’re briefing English journos to make us look better. If it’s done or very nearly done then we’ve gotten this wrapped up in pretty good time (only a few days after Torres and Ake), if it’s not then we’re trying to not overspend one times of Covid.

the "but daddy, I want it nooooow" crowd need to give their head a shake. Our seasin finished 10 days ago FFS! Those big deals need time, have a bit of patience.

It's not even finished yet

We are in a one horse race to sign one of the best players in the world right now with a team that by all accounts need to sell as a result of the pandemic. The club are clearly briefing they'll walk away using the same dead negotiation tactic that didn't work for Harry Maguire at the same time. Who needs logic when you're as incompetent as our board.

If I had the choice of choosing only one of the below 2 Options, I would 100 percent choose option 2.

1 - sign sancho for £100 million
2 - sign Zaha and grealish for £100 million

Grealish can play 4-5 attacking positions to a very high level and Zaha is a brilliant winger and soon to be 28. I’d do this and sign sancho next year.

Are you so sure about that? I mean, he has pace and flair, but is he really a brilliant winger? If so, what does that make Sancho? An über-super-duper-brilliant winger?

Here's a statistical comparison between the two, for some added context.

Zaha:

Sancho:

But sure, we should sign Zaha and Grealish instead.

Yeah, weird posts. It's not as if we will start preseason in next few days, as per reports club is trying to negotiate on structure of the payments but somehow people think we should just go ahead and complete it as if it's some grocery shopping.

They will have projections based on the worst case scenario most likely, financial accounts don’t do positive outcomes, only risk assessments. Hence the reason we’ll be wanting to get this deal done at the bottom end of our budget.

Regarding your previous post also, it’s not simple feat to transfer this money around either.

Exactly, if we are happy to spend 120m we know we can afford that.

Sending 70m isnt as simple as logging on to your online banking but for a bank to do it for you it's easy, its pittance to them.

Torres and Ake are squad players that will sit on the bench at City, Sancho is one of the top young players in the world who is going to be sold for a PL record breaking amount of money with the intention of instantly taking our attack to the next level.

There's literally no comparison between the deals, not even going in to the fact that there's no extra trophy for one team signing a player a few days before another

You've just made the list of people who don't deserve to enjoy Sancho when he arrives, unlucky mate. Shut your eyes.

Mad isn't it. They'll never be happy. If we buy him quickly without negotiating, it'll be "we overspent, pathetic business by the club". If we wait 1 or 2 weeks to haggle the price down by £10-20m it's all "just spend the money already I can't wait any more".

Surely the last few transfers should be enough indication of how we're doing things. If we can "only" get £10m off then we should absolutely try to.

Ah yes, Zaha the brilliant winger whos managed 36 goals for Palace in 16,372mins. A goal every 455mins! Compared to Sancho who's already scored 30 goals in 5,435mins for Dortmund, a goal every 181mins. Assists? Well Sancho already has the same number of assists as Zaha (38).

It's prior experience with United trying to get deals through. Before we know it August will have come and gone and it would be loads better if Sancho has already been with the squad training a few weeks before the start of the season. If we are serious about moving forward as a club we need to stop putting the business side of the club first, which has been the case for nearly a decade.

It's cause with every other club it looks quick cause you don't keep track of their transfers.

It's not an easy transfer. Sancho is one of the top talents in the world football and if it were not for Covid he would have costed more and there would have been multiple clubs vying for him. Manchester United clearly don't want to pay upfront fee like they did with Maguire but want to do in installments/fee based on bonus and that part takes time aka Bruno's deal.

Like as quickly and easily as Chelsea signed Havertz?

It's called negotiation and it worked with Bruno. By your logic we should just pay whatever Borussia asks. That's not how it works.

This - so frustrating

You mean business side of the club where we spent more than any other club except City?

We have made lot of investment, its just lazy criticism now, we have made mistakes in hiring wrong managers.

And the investment has been nothing short of a shambles. Hiring the wrong managers is also a part of that.

How is criticising the nature of how we conduct transfers and how it has an impact on the team lazy criticism?

This is just storm in a teacup stuff in my opinion. It’s basically two clubs haggling over how much of an already agreed set amount of money switches hands over three years.

But to sell papers and get clicks... Embellish it! Talk about wages! Talk about how it’s not done yet! Talk about it because it’s a prodigious homegrown talent! Talk about it because we didn’t get the original scoop and counter it as our own scoop!

My working theory is that Ed f*cking loves all this drama, keeps us in the headlines and is therefore good for business.

So just because investment has been shambles, it means we are concentrating on business side?

We are not in this position because we completed transfers few days late, it's because we backed wrong managers.

No, why? Social media trophy just sounds ridiculous, sorry.

I know it sounds ridiculous. But judging by what is discussed in shareholders meetings, it seems that is what our board are interested in other than actual footballing trophies.
