Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

We’re also forgetting optics here. Commercially, signing Sancho (number 7) and keeping Pogba after a year we’ve secured Champions League would galvanise our already monstrous marketing.

Aren’t we due to end the Chevrolet deal shortly too?

No white text?

Greenwood is a number 9, people will be whinging (Tony fans) but he will push Martial out of that position next season.
Yeah, if he does it means he would have been on an extraordinary level. That means championship winning form and that's a good thing.

Out of interest, do you expect everyone on here to have the same opinion? What is crazy about my opinion that you find revolting? Every pundit and fan worth his salt has mentioned our defence as the weekest link so my choice of Koulibaly is not a rubbish idea because he is probably the only ready made world class central defender in the world right now. Gary Neville has done a podcast for Sky sports where he categorically says United need to buy a dominant centre half to partner either Maguire or Lindelof. He has made his argument clear that to win the premier league you need a dominant centre half and he has given the examples of Van Dyk and Vincent Kompany. Its fine for you on a football forum to say that is not a priority but Sancho is. Guess what mate, I would rather listen to what a Manchester United legend has to say about it , he knows what it takes to win championships. If you think Sancho is more of a priority for United today, then spell out your reasons for it rather than trashing other people's opinions. As far as am concerned, we need a central defender more than we need Sancho. Why? Because Greenwood, Rashford and Martial can deal with the wings. Now thats my argument, now present yours instead of acting like a North Korean policeman on here.

No everyone has different opinions but some of yours in the past are mind boggling.

Koukibaly is 29 no thank you that ship has sailed . We currently have 7 centre backs, granted some are not good enough or won’t be here next season but a few of them need to leave before we add a centre half . Personally I’m holding out for Axel.

We need Sancho because as you can see we could be playing up to 55-60 games next year. We don’t have options aside from Greenwood that are decent enough quality. He seems to have lost all interest in Mata and James best position seems to be on the left .

When he comes to blowing half your supposed budget on one player 95% of people are going to choose Sancho over Koukibaly.

And no Martial , Rashford and Greenwood can’t deal with their wings because injuries happen and you take a look around this club and see whos on the bench that would do a similar job to them .

Can't speak for that poster but the implication was that we spend £100m+ on a 29 year old CBs who, by his standards, didn't have the best of seasons. We need a CB but the time for Kouliably has been and gone.
Fair enough mate you make a valid point, which is what I expected the other poster to do, basically explain why he thinks a central defender is not a priority. My argument is centred around the word priority. I am thinking United have lets say a budget of 150 million. Would you use 120 million of that on a winger in an area we are covered now, or invest that in an area we are weak which is the centre back. If Ed Woodward says to day we have 500 million to spend, then yes by all means pay Dortmund whatever they want for Sancho.

Not sure about that, will need to improve his all round game quite a bit yet to catch up to Martial (whose hold up play is superb)
His natural positioning for a number 9 is there to see. There was a moment yesterday where Rashford played a ball perfectly in between the two centrebacks and Masons movement was instinctual, meanwhile Martial was flouting around on the wing instead of being where he should have been. I'm not slating Martial but Greenwood's positioning is that of a true number no 9 - a bit like what you can see when Ighalo plays. I don't mind Greenwood bedding into the starting 11 on the wing but I don't want him to lose that positional instinct, which is why I'd like to see Mason rotate with Martial for the no 9 once Sancho (hopefully) comes in.

Trouble was, it felt like Van Gaal was swinging an axe in the dark.

That's a hilarious image.

Can imagine him doing that in the middle of the night, thinking he's being burgled.

Paranoid off his Saturday night smoke.

But we don't "need" him. Greenwood has emerged as a top star for a right wing position and we can do with a natural right winger to give him competition. We are only moving for Sancho with this level because he's a generational talent. We need a pacey center back, some midfield cover and sure a natural right winger. But it doesn't "need" to be Sancho, because we have creativity and finishing all over the park now.

I think a revision to £120m is still toppy for a player entering a final year of contract in covid, who evidently wants out and has been dropped a few times because his head isn't with the club.
2 years left on contract *

Your opinion is even more mind boggling considering the best defender in the premier league Van Dyk is 29 years old. I suggest you keep posting your opinions and stop stalking other people's opinions. My opinion remains unchanged. I would prefer a central defender to Sacho if the money was limited. I dont see anything outrageous with that statement.

We conceded 3 goals more than the best defence and scored 36 goals less than the best scoring team. For me that’s argument enough to sign expensive attacking players instead of expensive defenders. And I’m not really following Neville’s arguments. I would call Maguire dominant. His whole style of playing is to come on at full force where the ball is. And talking about City, aren’t they the proof that you don’t need dominant CBs to win PL? Kompany played quite a few matches when they won 2014 but the other two times he played like a third of the matches or something.

Romano saying news soon? Does this mean we are going to get a “ Boom, here we go” sometime soon? Can’t decide weather to unzip or just go full trouser-less until it’s done.

I can’t personally see anything getting done quickly here And think this will be a long drawn out process But here is hoping I’m wrong.

Dortmund brief that we made an offer, so that they can go out and set their asking price and deem it as circumstantial reaction to an offer. Makes sense to be fair, and I believe us reacting with a brief of our own that squashes it. Just not with Chris Wheeler.

Excellent tactical design by Ole
What you are missing out in the 9 role is the need for hold up play which is what Martial is superb at. That wasn't me saying Greenwood wouldn't develop its more me saying expecting him to be at a level to displace Martial next season is far fetched. What he will be is an excellent rotation option in both no9 and RWF positions

The English media gets caught on the hop time and time again by their foreign counterparts when Utd are buying from abroad.
Its hilarious and tragic, we literally have no leaks in England. Even when they break news it isnt from a scoop but from a wide briefing

Christian Falk will hopefully tell us more soon.

Looks like the media battle has started and both sides will brief few papers. Dortmund did with how 98 million wasn't enough, now English media with no bid has been made.

Will see what Romano says, also journalists like Ducker, Hirst.

It's not just overlaps but rather link up play and quick one two's aswell. @do.ob has mentioned this before regarding the fullbacks. And BVB also have Guerreiro at left back who is technically very good in the build up.

This season Sancho had great positional freedom and operated across the pitch, the half spaces being his favourite zones if Dortmund had a right winger his name was Hakimi. And not just in the sense of simple supporting runs. You just have watch a season compilation of Hakimi and look for Sancho's position during the attacks. It's not something that AWB is likely to be able to replicate and if Solskjaer were to tell Sancho to just do what he did at Dortmund then between him, Bruno and Pogba a lot of his qualities could end up redundant or ineffective.

Ducker and Hirst will report that we haven't bid yet IMO.

Completely agree mate.

Would love to have him, healthy competition for the attacking roles between, Rashford, Martial, Greenwood, Sacho, James would give us the strength in depth and tactical variation.

If United are pay anything more than 90m pounds, I think we're getting ripped off. It would be foolish to spend a huge chunk of the budget on someone when there are other positions that need addressing.

A generational talent thats 20 years old proven in one of the top leagues in the world, has no bedding in time as grew up in england knows the football like the back of his hand and could play for the same club for 10+ years.

That £70 million for VVD was chuckled at, look at it now.

Sometimes we have to commit to the deals, he is just 20 years old with so many years left at top level. We might go with "next season he will be cheaper" but you never know, maybe clubs like Madrid, Barca might be in for him or if one of the Chelsea signings flop big time, they might try their luck with this deal.

When we are in good position, we have to make full use of it. I don't see any priority position than Sancho. We need one DM, I think Sancho deal shouldn't kill that deal.

exactly. We have a free run at him this summer and we have to take advantage of that ... who knows what happens in a year?

Rio at 30M and Rooney at 30M were also looked at that way, but the market changes, Sancho is worth 100M definitely.

Yes. MUFC is in negotiations with the Haier group in a deal that is potentially worth around £65-70m a year. Blowing the Chevrolet deal out of the water. It will be the biggest shirt sponsor deal in sports. I expect negotiations are heavily impacted by Covid-19, so let's see what happens with that.
