Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

What's amazing about Sancho is that as well as being a goalscorer, he's also a creator - that'll take a lot of pressure off of Bruno and help us whenever he's missing (remember how uncreative we looked before his signing?).

Having Bruno and Sancho feeding Martial, Rashford and Greenwood

I know it is low down the list on that video but that bit of outrageous skill and finish against Barca is my favourite.

I also liked the set up for Mario Gotze where he runs at the defence then just casually sets him up.
Yep probably his best goal that. The power he gets on it while standing still is pretty amazing.

If United are to buy Sancho Champions League is critical as it pays for the costs of his fee. If this doesn't happen I would think Sancho will sign a shiny new extended contract with Dortmund. United is good leverage for any player/agent to negotiate a new contract. Either way, it's a win-win scenario for Sancho.
I think if Sancho was to sign a new contract with Dortmund it would be similar to the one Lewandowski signed at Dortmund d before he left on a free. Just can’t see him extending his contract there.

When Dan James stretched the pitch for us on the right side, we struggled because the forwards found it harder to interchange; however when Greenwood played and always cut inside, we found our play smoother and more fluid. If Sancho were to play on the right for us it's important he comes inside and plays fluidly, and doesn't take it upon himself to stretch the pitch.

I agree with the sentiment of him being a great fit generally; tactically it remains to be seen. Since it's a lot of money, I'd prefer it was a sure thing especially given it's a Dortmund attacker. In any case we'll see when we get him.

C'mon dude, you're comparing Dan James to one of the most statistically productive attacking players in the world. I love James' attitude but he just isn't that good. He's game but he's just way too lightweight for this league and defenders seem to have him sussed. He may improve over time but I suspect any strength he gains with age will be at the cost of his pace and I think his pace is the only attribute he has that is relatively high level.

Just Can't see this happening this summer.
Dortmund know Utd are desperate and will stick to their 100m.
It will drag out like the Bruno transfer and maybe will get him in Jan or next summer.

Absolutely. The best part about him is that he's both got elite ability with the ball at feet as well as strong passing ability/vision.

Okay well from actual football matches I’ve sat and watched, Pulisic has been the better player from what I have personally seen.

In 3 years Sancho could be lifting the Balón D’or with Real Madrid and Pulisic could be getting shafted from Chelsea to Brentford and I’ll look a bit silly. But as of right now I can only go by what I have seen.

If they’re both PL players next season then hopefully I can get a clearer picture
Pulisic' style of play looks pleasing to the eyes i can give him that. What has always been his letdown is his erratic end product. One match he is creating and scoring at will, the next he is dribbling aimlessly and wasting passes.

If you get him, I'd continue to play Greenwood on the right and would put Sancho on the left. Many of his scorers actually come from him playing on the left side of the pitch (Dortmund's attack is very fluid) already and my personal perception is that he's better there. It's also much more natural for a player like him to play on the left since he likes to cut in so much.

the beauty is that it would give us numerous new options.

Rashford - Martial - Sancho

Rashford - Greenwood - Sancho

Sancho - Martial - Greenwood

and so on and so on. 4 quality options for 3 spots keeps the intensity up and allows us to be flexible.

Yes, that really looks amazing. Can't Rashford also play as a striker?

Regardless, United's team is currently one of the most interesting projects in European football.

Genuinely don't get how anyone at this point can still feel like that but fair enough, I suppose we've been hurt many times before, buts clearly nailed on.

Do people on this thread not remember Ryan Giggs and David Beckham, two of the best premier league wingers in history neither of whom were inverted wingers. Giggs didn't even have a good right foot but still managed to score plenty of goals from the left wing. Sancho actually looks pretty strong on his weak foot as can be seen from some of the goals he's scored. Inverted wingers are a relatively new phenomenon and yes, some players perform much better on their inverted flank (Dr Rashford & Martial) but Sancho has been performing at a very high level, at a very young age on the right and there's no reason to think this could not continue.

Also, given the amount of games.competitions to be played, I have no fears that it would stunt Greenwood's development. It's pretty unlikely that all four will be available for a sustained period anyway and we need some high quality cover. Competition will keep all of them on their toes too.

yeah he can, and he did so early this season when Martial was injured. Think he's clearly better on the wing though and I'm not sure how much we'd see him up front in the future unless we absolutely have to play him there.

Yeah, I agree with this. Think Martial is more suited to hold up play than Rashford.

Then it could get tough for him to get into the team with Sancho coming in? I mean, as good as Rashford is, Sancho is better and Greenwood soon will be if he develops as expected. Will be interesting to see how things turn out eventually.

People don’t have a great understanding of how transfers work, the structure/moratorium of payments etc.

I’m sure many read an article saying “United in for £100m Sancho” and expect us to be emptying £100 million from our bank account before the lad arrives.

It's quite possible that we will do. Depends entirely on how any deal is structured - Maguire, for example, was paid for up front in a single lump sum.

Dortmund might insist on something similar, or they might be happy with a payment structure over a number of months/years.

Even if we don't get CL and somehow still manage to arrange the fee for this transfer I would still do it even if it means blowing the entire season budget on one player. He can cover multiple positions, will be a starter, young exciting english talent who will probably not try to force a move to Spain in future. I know we need depth in other areas but honestly there are lot of options at cb, dm that can be purchased next summer whereas you don't get a free run at a quality young attacker every window. Attackers are most rare to find and if possible we should buy him this summer.

Very confident of still adding a young CB when we have sold a couple first

Err... I agree we need Sancho.. but I don’t think Sancho is any older than Rashford, Martial and Greenwood, if your concern is their age...

My point is that more depth is needed since young players could lack consistency. Yo you need more top quality options.

He is a must. Chelsea have battered us and have already strengthened for next season.

If we do not sign Sancho this summer, I can see us losing Pogba next summer.

What is the point of a rebuild if you are going to back the full rebuild?

Well he is not joining in the sing song to welcome Jude Bellingham...It's Sanch-on!
Too many small things like this have happened where their most marketable asset hasn’t been involved in future PR campaigns for it to not be an indication of where Sancho will be at the end of the window.

Call me a muppet or whatever but that for me has been one of the clearer signs from the club that they are not confident of him staying.

My last post of the day, I think he'll join us, No Champions League or not, He's 20, I'm sure he can afford a year out of the Champions League to be honest, Also, I see Jude Bellingham has joined Borussia Dortmund, I wonder where they get the money from.....

We shouldn't look that far for a sign that they are not confident of him staying. Dortmund's coach, their president and even Sancho himself have all said they are uncertain of the future

Sancho will move here either way, as long as we pay up. Nothing to do with Jude, money talks. That was always the case, Dortmund is a selling club at the end of the day, especially when players' contracts run down. They will cash in as long as he moves abroad and it is a nice sum for them.

I've read that Dortmund need to raise cash as a result of lost revenue from the pandemic. If this is true, it is unlikely that they would spend £25M without substantial sale(s). Enter Sancho?
Isn’t that every club’s predicament? Even us to some extent. Everyone has to sell to balance books and reinvest.

Make it make sense because this is wrecking my brain. Bellingham is not our player.
"While no one at #mufc has said it explicitly..." is code for "I'm a lying, speculating fraud who's stealing a living." It's best to ignore anything said by James Cooper and everyone else at Sky.

Ah yes, the old use-a-player-we-don't-own-and-who-didn't-want-to-join-us to sweeten the deal. Wooders is always one step ahead of the rest.
I suppose it could be easily said that during negotiations that we agree to pull out of chasing player X in order to agree a way forward on a deal for player Y. I mean that's a very easy conversation for two chief executives to have when your conducting in depth negotiations.

That's about as easy as including a car of yours in a part exchange deal.

I'm not saying it happened, but it could have and is certain to have happened between clubs previously.

I’ve got a blatant case of 2+2=5 here, but I remember reading about Dortmund losing £45m due to the pandemic.

Add the £25m for Bellingham and you get £70m - could this be the base figure we pay for Sancho then add-ons?

well you could look at "the process" that way: Dortmund don't have a lot of money to spend this summer, so them splashing over 20m on a 17 year old is a pretty good indication that they plan to sell Sancho. I doubt they'd sign Bellingham for that kind of money if they didn't expect the Sancho money ... they've been hit pretty hard by the pandemic.

Sancho not being in the announcement video is the biggest sign for me. They are doing a "Hey Jude" song for a new young English player, and the other young English player in the squad is not in it? What a coincidence :D
