Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

Sancho coming has never been reliant on UCL football. He'd of come last summer if Dortmund has been willing to sell/we could afford him
Some people on here refuse to believe that a player can sign for United because he just loves United. They are convinced United are not attractive to any player unless they offer him more money or can guarantee Champions league football.Sancho will join because he likes United. Champions league or not, he will join. Just like Bruno did. I am sorry to break it to some of you, United are attractive to players because this is a massive football club. Ask Bruno.

You can predict most transfers of this scale and in this moment - people will say anything to keep it news. It's basically fantasy. This talk of CL etc - it's all junk. We honestly know very little but at the same time we know enough. It's the drama that keeps it interesting

His club are making the right noises. The player and club are saying nothing. So what else are these people going to write about? I just look forward to when it's done.

Can see it dragging til late September.

As I’ve said before, I wouldn’t mind switching targets. Something about this doesn’t excite me

Never has a transfer been so obviously needed by us to the selling club. But €120m?? Cant see us paying it. £90m plus a bit more in ad-ons I can see though. They will try and pull our pants down and we will overpay that is for sure.

Seems like I'm the only one thinking that 120m€ is actually a decent price for us. Would gladly pay that for Sancho.

Part of me would still rather spend that money on a cheaper right winger/right wing equivalent and use the rest of the budget on shoring up the squad.

haha feck Dortmund wacking 100m on him with an opening bid. Stretch this shit out and make Dortmund panic, they'll settle for less.

I just hope we wrap up a top 4 spot next week so that we can get going here. Really don't want this to drag on all summer.

I think where CL mstters is us being able to go the extra mile and pay closer to what Dortmund wants.
Without CL money, we might just decide it is beyond us this summer.

But we don’t have to be able to afford it just this summer. The cost of the deal to United will be spread over the length of his contract so next year, the year after that, the year after that and the year after that are just as relevant.

We are also in the position that if we had to stump up the whole fee in cash this summer we could actually do it. We’re the only club in the world who could do that.

United can obviously afford to buy Sancho irrespective of Champions League in any given season. That’s clear.

It’s just a case of how much we’re prepared to pay.

It won't make a difference to Dortmund's success in the league with or without Sancho next season.

If (that's a big if) the world is back to normality next year then perhaps they could sell Sancho for around 70m, but how much he'd be worth if we have another season like this?

You then run into another risk that Sancho may decide to leave on a free transfer to get more money as by then he only has 12 months left on his current contract.

We are in a strong position, I would very much doubt Dortmond's are this naive to turn down a lower offer in the region of 80m plus add-ons IMO.

Both Dortmund and United's mouthpiece have said Dortmund will not budge from the price. What more do people want to believe that Dortmund wouldn't accept anything lower

The more Dortmund talks and “are resolute to stick by their valuation” the better for us. Anybody in a strong position has time on their side and can let silence do the talking. No needs for ultimatums or deadlines if you’re comfortable with the situation.

Lets look at other options and we will see who first lose their calmness.

May I ask why? I can’t think of a more exciting and perfect signing for the RW spot that we have abandoned for a decade.

I know the drawn out nature of transfers is tedious but there isn’t a more ‘exciting’ option for RW than this lad.

Same here. He was worth that before Covid and we will be back in that sort of position with player prices very soon anyway.

Let’s get the most important signing over the line and penny pinch a bit more on other signings imo.

Probably because the freshness of this rumour has long gone. This has been an exhausting saga of 316 pages and it hasn't even begun. The OP was made 16 months ago.

Like who? There’s nobody out there as good as Sancho.

And that’s exactly the same for any signing we are excited by on the caf... since forever.

I think usually the most exciting ones were ones that started at the beginning of the window and ended late in the window like Pogba or Bruno. This thread has been 18 months in the making with no real progress apart from a guy drinking a bottle of water.

I don't think Simon Stone writes about United transfers if he hasn't gotten the go ahead from United to do so. This one will happen imo.

Greenwood in a few years, hopefully.

I think people overe estimate our financial capacity.
We have a bill of £140m for transfers that has to be paid within the next 10 months with just £28m coming in. Our cash flow is not secure at the momen as we do not have a complete picture.
Also people mistake accounting entry for cash flow. The fact that cost are amortized does not mean that we did not put up the cash up front. Looking at Maguire for example.
I find the premise of the two articles to make most sense. If Dortmund are not ready to accept add ons, we cannot commit to the transfer now, until we have more surity of how our revenues will look. As those articles suggest and to me it's clearly a briefing...we don't have a budget set at the moment.
The CL could make stumping up the cash easier cause that and extra £50m of income.
Imo, the briefing by the club is not a tactics to negotiate, it's just the reality. Dortmund refuse to negotiate and so we are stuck until we have more clarity of our own situation.
It also corresponds with Bild's information from yesterday.
For the record, I still think the transfer will happen. Both clubs are clearly talking or at least, they were talking.

Agreed he doesn't speculate he mostly talks about specific transfers when negotiations are at quite advanced stage so I believe this is certainly happening.

Doesn't sound like they want an opening bid. They have set a price, leave or take.

Not as good as Grealish, but we already have Greenwood starting. If we can get another player with quality on the right who can rotate with him, even if we use Grealish there sometimes, we would always have quality on that flank. What is clear as day as that Greenwood is going to become a star. Even if it means holding out for a year so that we can get Sancho, it would make sense. For me, at this present moment, even though I feel Greenwood does need a quality player to rotate with, I don't think our front 3 is our biggest concern anymore. Both Martial and Greenwood have improved immeasurably since the restart. A partner for Macguire and another defensive midfielder/central midfield that can deputise or take over from Matic/Pogba would be really useful. I would also love to have a versatile attacker that can play in the three attacking midfield positions. We haven't been able to rest Bruno since he came because we have nothing on the bench to replace him with.

My point is, aside from centre back, rather than just signing players who would be designated to one specific position, we can sign a few who are versatile enough and have the mental capacity to perform various roles in the team. If we can strike up a deal for Sancho at a reasonable price, then I would of course go for it without question. However I'm also skeptical of putting all our eggs in that basket in the way teams like Barcelona did for "surefire" signings like Dembele, Griezman or Couthinho. Or even Real Madrid for a proven quality star like Hazard, whilst still winning the league with him missing the majority of the season. The biggest case for this is Liverpool with Couthino. By selling a player that they deemed to be quality for 100m, they were able to sign both Salah and Van Dijk, who at the time, many viewed he was better than. 100m is a lot of money for a player, particularly during this period. Is it wise to spend all of that money on Sancho when players like Ziyech have gone for half the price.

They definitely will. Feck them. We can wait another year if they don’t. No way should we pay more than 90 in this climate. He has 2 years left on his contract. They will reduce their demands.

This is one transfer saga where the English media will help us.

They want Sancho to "come back home" and play with his current and future international teammates Rashford and Greenwood.

We will see a lot of articles about this all summer, but it all works in our favor.

Secure CL spot, and wait and watch as the media pressure on BvB piles up. Note that they are dependent on positive English media coverage to get young players to sign on to their project.
