Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

"I don't think we're going to see a £100m transfer fee. There's going to be some money down, there might be players involved, there might be sell-ons or buy-ons, just to protect them and give Dortmund the kind of money they deserve.

"Before COVID-19 I think everyone looked at it and thought that's a £100m signing. But I don't think anyone is writing a £100m cheque at Manchester United for one player."

nah, youre going to have to pay as close as possible to the 120m euros. They cant give it the big one saying "we wont budge from our valuation" to then crumble and take 30-40m less. Ruhr Nachrichten say they aint budging from 120m euros either, and besides official club media, theyre about as reliable as it gets for BVB
Isn’t that the whole point of negotiation? You don’t start off by saying we will take 70-80m. You start off high and then take the price as realistically close to your valuation as possible. The problem for Dortmund is he only has two years left. He isn’t signing a contract extension. So they have to ask themselves a question. Would they rather take 80m now or around 40-50m next summer. In this climate even losing 30m is a YUGGGEEE deal.

I’ll be so happy with this. A front three of Rashford Martial Sancho with Money Mase doing his apprenticeship under them will be delicious, and I don’t think it will be too long before one of Rashford or Martial starts riding the bench for Greenwood. Having both Sancho and Greenwood as the future for United and England is so

To give this thread a vital life again, i just saw this while browsing:
What United can afford, What United cannot afford.

I guess it depends really on CL or no CL if this transfer Sacho to United will happen or not.
And if it happens, it won't get to the numbers Dembele or Aubameyang reached (cost of these transfers in relation to their context like contract-lenght or others), but it will be a massive sum. Maybe stretched to 2 years, and for sure with a lot off add-ons and bonuses.
I got a feeling that the board will stand their ground and demand 120 Millions (all) for a move now, and have 80 Millions in their head for a possible move next season.

Nope.

Luckily it looks like we really should be getting CL so we'll never know, but yeah it doesn't depend on it.

Where would Pogba, Bruno, Martial, Rashford, Sancho and Greenwood stand on the world stage, do any teams have a better 6?
Honestly would be one of the most exciting forward lines we'll have had since our last CL winning squad.

Find it impossible that all of them would have an off day at the same time so we'd almost always have consistent scoring threats in the squad irregardless of form

It almost never depends on it. It's perhaps the most annoying transfer related bunkum, mostly invented by newspapers when they have absolutely nothing to say on transfers, just to make fans sit at home worrying about their club getting into the top four. I'm feckin sure of it

I think the deadline is more because of Dortmund's preperation for next season starts on August 10th and if Sancho leaves they need to buy a replacement. So it's reasonable to not want to drag this until one day before the season starts in September.

I guess Sancho will be a United player by August 10th, but they will pay more than €100m. United can't afford to not get him this summer and risk that he joins another club next year.
Yes that's what I envisage as well.

If Dortmund didn't want to sell him they'd say he wasn't available.

Which in itself is vital to any club that wants to challenge. We are hopefully heading in that direction if we continue to do well in the transfer market.

Nice to have a genuinely positive outlook again for the club. :D

Would take minimum £100m to pry him away from BVB. I hope the club can afford that. Sancho would cement our position in the top 3 I reckon.
Buy a CDM, LB, CB and some midfield cover, we can win the league with that. The next couple of windows are vital, buy the right players and we we might win the 21st in 2-3 years.

CL football = long bench
Rashford, Martial and Sancho + Greenwood for rotation (he can play on any position) will make sure we have an option to rest 1/3 of our attack every game without losing quality.
Sancho is a must buy. Good CB is also a must buy.

I think 2 or 3 years is an achievable time frame. Fernandes has stabilized us. Sancho gives us an incredible option up front.

We now have to be able to win 25-30 games minimum a season to give us any sort of hope

Im confident we will get him if we manage to get UCL, which is highly likely due to Citys punishment.

When are we gonna get a confirmation on that? I seriously doubt the CL ban will be upheld

Should be in the next week or so. Its City, they will get away with it.

If the ban is overturned, then I suspect that our fortunes, Champions League football and the fate of the Sancho deal, may all depend on a single game at the King Power stadium in two and a half weeks' time.

Surely one of us is dropping points before then. I reckon by the time we play the West Ham at home the top 4 will be clear enough.

That is quite risky because we still need Leicester to drop points before that game. In an ideal world we win all our games, Leicester and Chelsea lose 1 game each and we get 3rd.

I tell you, we keep scoring 2-3 goals a game and Leicester will crumble.

Out of curiosity - would people be happy if we only sign Sancho this summer because of financial restraints due to the Corona-virus ? personally I think we need quality over quantity now - so I would rather we blow our budget on a quality player like Sancho than getting 2-3 players who are almost as good.

He is a game changing signing there is no doubt about it but would be lying if I said I wasn't still worried about the lack of pace at CB. Wouldn't be so much of an issue if Bailly & Tuanzebe could be relied on to stay fit but they both look very injury prone and leave us short in that area.

I can't see it being resolved before the final day - do you think we'll have opened up a four point lead on Leicester by then? That's a seven point swing in four games. I don't think that's likely, which means that we will need to get at least a draw at the King Power, or, more likely, a win.

If it is Sancho only then yes.

If no Sancho and we get a CB, CAM it wont upgrade us as much as Sancho would but hear me out.

Sancho - generational talent, no real alternatives if we miss out on him. If not this summer, we might not get him at all, we will enter next window looking for a RW with similar qualities to Sancho.

If we only get Sancho and we miss out on CB, CDM, CAM lets say.

- Which CB is there that is calling out to be bought and fits us perfectly? Koulibaly? 29 years £70m so it is a no go, if we are not spending £90m on Sancho we are not spending on Koulibaly. If you put a fan poll on CB you will get 4/5 suggestions, of which 2/3 will be available in the future.

- CDM again, is there one that screams I am perfect for your team? Not really.

- CAM we have Grealish, maybe if we miss out on him he goes to Spurs? but ok, next season we can go for Maddison.

not the first time the player wants us, our manager wants the player, his club wants to sell and we need to buy.

Perfect for Ed and the boys to feck it up again.

just not investing any muppetry in this.

You know we'll spend all summer issuing briefs and trying to play our negotiation hand, and all it'll be is Dortmund want 100m, and we'll get it to 90m upfront with 10m based on him able to play 20 games in a season :D

There's no way they're weasling out of a 2 year ban completely. The smart money is on a 1 year.

Meant to be decided on Monday.

I agree. It'll be a shock to get a total reversal. As for us, we need to get that CL spot, via whichever means. Not just Sancho, but other signings would be easier. Club on the up, and in CL. I think United hold the cards on Sancho. Every man and his dog knows the move is on. Only falls through if we don't wanna pay up. I hope the money men pull off a good deal.

Find it very interesting that Cooper thinks we want to sign both Grealish & Sancho, however Whitwell agrees on Sancho but thinks no interest in Grealish now as it was only happening if Pogba left. I really don't know who is more reliable out of the two of them but hopeful that Cooper is right on this one.

It might get postponed for a year like Chelsea's transfer ban was. Allow the club to get their affairs in order.

Can anyone tell me how reliable this news actually is?

I thought he had already ‘agreed terms’ and our qualification wasn’t going to influence his decision much

There is zero chance a club in the size and prestige of Manchester united would spend 100m on a player with this attitude. But if, and it is a big If this is true, we should not buy him no matter how good he is. There are hundreds of quality players who will through themselves just for the Ide of walking on the turf of OT.

Yes we would. If we get into the CL, our financial position will be much improved (not only do we gain the additional CL revenue, but we also avoid the decrease in commercial revenue that will result from two consecutive seasons outside the competition).

The only sensible course of action is to lay the groundwork for the deal, in the hope that CL football is secured.

One of the main reasons why you’re completely wrong about this is we won’t be financing this deal next season alone.

The cost of this deal will be spread over the entire length of the contract, so what happens if we qualify for Champions League this season, but not the season after, and the season after that, and the season after that...

I don’t know why people are obsessing over Champions League football. It’s just become perceived-wisdom and is completely irrelevant both in terms of affording the deal and from Sancho’s perspective. He could be at United for the next fifteen years so next year is largely immaterial.

Yeah. We keep progressing little by little, while adding new talent and getting rid of deadwood. We can pull it off.

Don’t think we’ll pay the 120m euros and it’ll be something like £90m.
No club in the world wants to pay that much on one player in current situation of instability. If we are going to buy him, it will not be more than Fernandes Fee. 60-70 m. Otherwise I think EW will pass on.

When we sign him, it'll obviously be more than 70m. Just obviously. Shouldn't even need to be said.

Don’t forget we also have the EL as a fallback in case we were to miss out on top 4. If you win the EL, you go straight in as a pot 1 side for the group stage draw. Both Leicester & Chelsea don’t have that option.

Don't worry it won't all be paid upfront like we saw with Maguire and also supposedly Wan Bissaka

I thought you guys already have his replacement in Reyna?

I agree.

I think Leicester will be dropping a couple points playing arsenal today, if not lose. Arsenal have started playing a tad bit better last couple games and I don’t see Leicester winning today.

That leaves us in a fantastic position to climb over them if we continue winning while also beating them when we play.

When we sign him, it'll obviously be more than 70m. Just obviously. Shouldn't even need to be said.
If his club will insist on anything above 80m, we will not sign him. The deal will be left for the next year to take advantage of his contract situation at that time. I am not an expert in transfers and football economics, but even we with simple knowledge in this regard know that with the current situation due to Covid 19, no club will risk paying so much on one player. That is why I am pretty sure the news of us offering only 50m is true. It is not complicated.

For me, If we get him. He will be the club star. He is a special talent and very intelligent footballer. I wish we get him this summer because we need to compete next season for major titles.

It might get postponed for a year like Chelsea's transfer ban was. Allow the club to get their affairs in order.
I don’t think you can compare city’s situation/ban to the Chelsea situation.

Chelsea’s ban had nothing to do with FFP and more to do with youth player signings if I’m not wrong.

The impact of the decision in regards to city’s ban will be pivotal in ensuring clubs don’t assume they can avoid spending limitations whenever they feel like it.

My money is on city getting the ban reduced from 2 years to 1 year surely.
