Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

This is from Ruhr Nachricten (Watzke's mouthpiece)

  • Borussia Dortmund is negotiating from a comfortable situation, despite the effects from the corona crisis. And BVB is unwilling to move even an inch away from its ideas.
  • A corona discount, managing director Watzke said last week, will not be given to Jadon Sancho, "not a euro". According to information from Ruhr Nachrichten, Borussia Dortmund has now deposited the framework conditions for a transfer with the only real interested party, the red devils. Manchester United are informed that Sancho may switch for a fixed amount of 120 million euros this summer.
  • No other serious prospects for the 20-year-old shooting star have knocked on the door in Dortmund. Chelsea are out of the race after investing in Timo Werner, Liverpool are apparently more focused on strengthening the defensive midfield and have targeted Bayern's Thiago. And a return to Manchester City three years after saying goodbye with some noise, after Sancho unilaterally terminated his training contract, the almighty coach Pep Guardiola has already classified as not smart and advisable.
  • The position of the player is still open towards Dortmund. Sancho's father is said to have been at the office in Dortmund in June. The club has so far received no signals that Jadon Sancho wants to leave BVB at any cost.
  • Dortmund want it done before August 10th. If he even gets on the plane to Bad Ragaz, he's staying at Dortmund.

So negotiations have started, that's a positive sign. It's on

My mind was certainly more on an Allison and Van Dijk scenario than any shiny new forwards as I watched that spectacle yesterday.
It was a bad 5 minutes in the middle of 11 clean sheets in 16 games.

So we wouldn't have to wait all through the window? Thank feck

They don't wanna give a corona discount
They won't wanna give a last year discount

A lot of noise for a club not wanting to sell
Feels like they always play this game to maximize value on their sales.

Distinctively remember very similar comments before the likes of Dembele, Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang and Pulisic were sold.

Despite what they say publicly, its already been reported that he doesn't have any interest in renewing so this might be the last summer window where they can still get peak value for him so I expect him to move if we get near the 80-100m add ons included

They have to sanction every transfer and I can See them (quite rightly) asking exactly why we are spending 100 million on a position that looks like it’s filled?

We still have DDG and two young up and coming keepers. A new CB is something we need but all the clubs are in for one this summer so prices will get inflated there.

And Dortmund always got the fee they wanted (sometimes even more than was initially speculated). There is no bargain to be had with Dortmund. They also preferred to run down Lewandowski's contract instead of selling him to us. I see no reason for them to sell below 100m. Let's be real, they can still get 80m, maybe even more, next year because every top club desperate for a top winger would be in for Sancho and waiting for the end of his contract won't work because someone will pay that price.

Honestly we should play complete hardball. We now can demonstrate a lack of need (thank you Mason). Sancho won't sign a new deal. Lowball them at £50m. Stick to our guns and take him in Jan/ for free next year if they won't budge.

We can then focus on signing a player for the defence in the summer and pick up Sancho for a good price. For once I want Woody to play the long game.

I think the most important question right now our management need to ask is...

Greenwood #11 & Sancho #7
or
Greenwood #7 & Sancho #11

IMO those double e and o in Greenwood looks perfect with 11

:)

In a more serious note. Getting Sancho is a must, dont get why anyone would not want to have at least 4-5 players capable of playing in the first eleven. Greenwood and Sancho are freaks but they still only 18 and 20 years old. Players that young are hardly regulars at that level in the top clubs, so for them to sit on the bench ones or twice should not be a problem.

Can you imagine how hungry any of those 4 players will be if Ole decide to put them on bench. 70 minute and you have fresh hungry for game Rashford, Martial, Sancho or Greenwood.

Right now I am not able to find one of them to be nailed on to start. If Rashford find his December/January form then maybe he will the most capped out of those 4 but other than that all young fantastic players able to change positions and then we move to our midfield which is not bad either....

Is been soooooo long since i was so excited and could not wait for another match.

I don't think this will go through. No way we are spending at least 100m for a player.
Yeah, considering the pandemic situation and the fact that we seem to have more problems in other areas right now. We should get someone for the right side of the attack to add squad depth and competition, but I don't think it will be at such a cost.

That's assuming Sancho will be happy to wait another two seasons, because United aren't willing to pay asking price for his services? I mean it could work, after all Bayern do a lot of transfers that way. However the high fee also works in United's favour at the moment, because it excludes almost any other club. Let him run down his contract and who knows what club will come knocking on his door with a golden briefcase.

The problem with this approach is that it's firstly reliant on Greenwood starting pretty much every game next season and continuing to improve. 1 injury and the season could be over for us. Sancho also has 2 years left on his contract, so he won't be available for free next summer. They're reportedly asking for €120m which is fairly reasonable (at least it was prior to the impact of coronavirus on the market). Sancho has performed at world class levels this season and if he was playing for us we would certainly not be looking to sell him for even less than €200m.

I'm hoping an add-on based deal can be eventually agreed that satisfies all parties - something like €100m + €20m in add ons (£90m +£18m). This way Dortmund can say they got the fee they wanted (with add ons) and we can say that he's not our record transfer (if you look at only the up front fee and include the paid add ons in the Pogba deal).

Can someone explain why Dortmund would sell less than 120m when their tier 1 has already said the price is fixed? If they sell less wouldn't that show people that they are weak in negotiations?

I think €120m seems too much considering how Covid has affected all clubs, not just Dortmund. I don't buy that they wouldn't sell for any less. I think €80m will be enough to get this done.

I doubt they would sell below €120m, their stance is always basically pay up or he stay for another year. Dortmund always got the fee they wanted and could easily create a bidding war for Sancho in the summer 2021.

This, They ain't going to budge. Ruhr Nachrichten are about as solid a source you can get for BVB, besides official club channels

Does Greenwood's recent form bring a rethink into this transfer and it's possibility ? I really do not think we will pay 100m for a player and it makes sense, as much as I want Sancho, he is 20 years old and only has 1.5 years left on his contract and could be nabbed at half that price in 1 more season, i also think there's more important or equally important positions to be sorted currently so wouldn't want us to put all of our eggs or most of the eggs into the right winger basket.

It will be a very interesting summer.

It would a real bad for the clubs intent and future if we rest and stick on what we have now, even if we finish the season with all wins. We have to press forward and continue to improve the squad.

We need him. Rashford and Martial both got hurt this season and we were struggling massively.

If 120m is the target then we need to get there in whatever way suits. Structured or bonuses or player exchange.

It's just like when Simon Stone said we are not selling Pogba unless they pay the price we want and people believed that. Add that to the fact that Dortmund has a history of not budging from their price tag. Why are people now thinking Dortmund would lower their price

'They want clarity by the beginning of August' which is a telling line IMO. Watzke is a stubborn so and so and history tells us he will stick to his guns. We will have to pay up if we want him for the 2020/21 season.

A fixed €120m. That's ridiculois in this climate. The good thing is that it is implied that both clubs are already communicating. I assume Sancho won't burn bridges because he can't be sure this will be resolved this summer.
I don't think Greenwood's form will affect our interest. What I do think is that Greenwood's form will make it harder to convince Joel Glazer it is worhtwhile parting away with £100m.

Woodward is also stubborn when it comes to this, and I cannot see him paying 120m for Sancho in this climate especially he knows next summer Sancho can be bought for around half that.

People have the mind of fish half the time. Very few will bat an eyelid.

Well they can sit it out and watch his value and performance levels drop? His contract is running down and he's not very happy where he is.

These things are often a game of bluff. I'm confident United can afford Sancho and a deal will be agreed. They wouldn't be settling on personal terms if they had no indication that he's attainable. United have a good relationship with Dortmund and there will be give and take on both sides amidst the media projections from both Dortmund and United.

I don't think it should. The time to get him is now. People sometimes mention Munich and it is what they do - but theres competition in England. We cannot just let him run down his contract. Why should he wait for us? Let's just get it done and then thank ourselves in years to come.

Which will hurt us IMO.

But if we can structure a deal to sign him then we should push the boat out alittle because it will close the gap on the leaders (L'pool, City) as far as matching them attack for attack.

Hope we stick to our max price and if that is rejected leave it until next year when he has one year left. The COVID situation will have a negative on all business going forward. There might be even worse times this time next year. We have nothing to lose waiting it out.

If we were to get this done quickly presumably he wouldn't be able to play in the resumption of the EL?

I think we'll end up agreeing on something around 100m, a form of structured deal. I do think we'll get him, we've worked on this for years, and is the perfect option for versatility, profile, our history of signing players like that, the #7 shirt, getting one over City (best youth product they produce become a player for us), starting 11 spot and squad depth balance, etc. Suits us in every way so I think we'll end up getting it over the line, but even if it's not agreed before August, I think we'll still be able to sign him in August, we'll just have to get close enough beforehand for them to know the interest is real and we are serious with our offers. Either way, now is the time to really push on and sort out the attacking depth/front 3 situation and move on with the rest of our squad, either with Sancho or moving on from him and pushing for Chiesa if we can't get Sancho done.

It depends how ambitious and believe that he has if by adding Sancho to the team we will genuinely challenge for the title, or he may just settle for top 4 without a big name signing.

I think the latter is likely to happen...

Then we don't get the player, simple as. I would have thought that we have learned our less re our struggles pre Bruno and how good we have been since then. Next season City, Liverpool and Chelsea won't remain stationary and if we don't also improve we could struggle again.
