Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

For this statistic presumably.

Then this stats has flaw to be excited about Sancho as attacker. You see players with KdB, Salah, and Mane as "notable players".

And who is "Davies" that pretty close to Sancho? maybe just get him, presumably as cheaper player that could bring the same "stats" as Sancho.

All statistics have flaws/outliers. Alphonso Davies at Bayern Munich I presume.

That chart also only demonstrates one aspect of a player’s game. It’s not as though it was posted with the statement: This shows who the best and worst players overall are.

Exactly. I'm not sure how that stats showing Sancho as a good player then. When you see other good players are all over the place with no pattern.

It’s quite possibly in the top 10 of crap graphs that don’t actually show very clearly anything useful.

They don’t explain what they class a carry as compared to a take on etc.

I’m very excited for Sancho but that graph isn’t worth analysing.

If you don’t know how to read a very basic graph, maybe. It’s a graph entirely based on dribbling, an asset Sancho clearly excels in.

KDB, Mane, and Salah are weaker dribblers - in that they complete less successful take-ons and carry the ball for shorter distances than the players above them. That’s how this graph works. It’s not measuring anything else.

There are plenty of better ways of representing those metrics. And equally it doesn’t take into consideration tactics roles etc. Of course Sancho is going to take on more people than KDB, Mane and Salah because KDB is a playmaker and Mane and Salah are inside forwards who are more about getting on the end of chances than dribbling an opponent. Sancho is a winger whose job it is is to make a yard of space out wide and create or cut inside and score he’s not comparable to the styles of the other players.

Nobody said there wasn’t — all this is is a graph showing dribbling prowess. I really don’t get why people are getting angry at this.

Agreed. It's an interesting but obviously narrowly focussed graph of two specific stats. It shows plenty of useful stuff if you have eyes, but is obviously not a graph of 'who is the best player' or anything like that.

Could someone tell me why transfermarkt rates him £105m but our Rashford only £57m ? Isn't Rashford still ahead of him in the England team peking order?
(I've never watched him so I have no idea)

Because transfermarkt price estimates are generally nonsense.

I'd say yes, Rashford is ahead of him. When he got injured, Rashford was probably the most in-form of all four of those main 'striker' options. And Southgate seems pretty settled on Rashford-Kane-Sterling. Although if he's smart he'll spend any time we do end up getting next season looking at some ways to integrate more of his best players at the expense of some of his weaker positions, so we might end up getting all four in the same side. I'd be experimenting with something like this, to get more of our forwards and LBs into the side.

Rashford Kane Sancho
Sterling
Henderson TAA
Shaw Maguire Gomez AWB
Henderson

James gets a serious hard time for some reason. He only turned 22 in November, cost feck all, our top assisting player, played basically every match, was burnt out, not on a big wage and has all the potential in the world.

On another note if we sign Sancho do people think with Rashford on the left and Sancho on the right is Martial the right man to have in the middle?
Personally I would say no.

You started with ‘James gets such a hard time for some reason’, listing his assist stats and close with a shot at Martial, who has good stats this season. There’s a player who gets such a hard time.

Yea I don't get the backlash when its literally just based on a certain aspect in attack, dribbling which Sancho is rated as one of the best in Europe this season.
Not that complicated, I posted it to highlight how well rounded his game is,nothing more nothing less.

To the person who asked why Davies is there, I recommend you watch some Bayern Munich highlights of him this year and you'll see why quite clearly and fast. He's on his way to being the best left back prospect in the world and is an absolute terror going forward in attack with the ball at his feet ever since he turned pro at 15 playing in MLS.

That's a Liverpool/United XI!!!

It shows that he is a capable dribbler but nobody has ever questioned that. If they have they are idiots!

I just think it’s a really poor way of showing it. Not angry just disappointed that this is the best graph someone could produce.

I think it’s just very poorly displayed and I think it picks the wrong kind of players to compare in some instances. Sancho is not at all like some of the players listed and I don’t really see why you’d choose to compare him to De Brunye? I completely understand comparing him to United players to see what kind of dribblers we have at the club but I really fail to see how De Brunye has anything to do with whether or not United should buy Sancho.

It’s not a critique of you posting it it’s more the graph itself is a really poor way to show that data. I obviously know what it’s trying to show but there are far better ways to make that point with the data.

Saudi take over of Newcastle will change the dynamics in transfer market. Hope that won't affect sancho's transfer to united, if it is on...

You're right, I think Newcastle will gazump us for Sancho. I've heard he's always dreamed as playing as a right wingback in Brucey's 541

That's a useless stats then, if it's all want to do is to make a certain player looks better than any other world class players.

Just like that Joe Allen stats that showed him the best midfielder in the world.
or showing how Granit Xhaka as the second best midfielder for winning the ball back out of the Premier League's top six.

But these stats aren't lying to you, you're just reading too much into them, and taking it very personally for some reason. The Sancho stat isn't meant to trick you into thinking he's better than De Bruyne or whatever. It just shows you how much each player has a) carried the ball and b) taken on opposition players with the ball. Likewise the chart above isn't claiming Xhaka is the second best player on that list, just that he makes the second-most recoveries per 90, just like it says on the tin. Use it however you like.

Good

Says a lot of about Greenwood's profile though, I've always been of the mind that clubs should look into the prospects Dortmund are looking at to cut out the middle man. Their scouting is consistently outstanding

Greenwood is one of probably two players we wouldn't sell for any amount of money.

Is it? I dont think you need great scouting when targeting high profile youngsters.
Seems pretty lazy if anything

I thought the official line was that they were flat out refusing to discuss any deal at all last summer?

Yea Sancho didn’t require some unique scouting. He was a household name in England as being one of the main kids of golden age group coming through. Similarly someone like Gio Reyna has been widely talked about in the States since he was like 14. Everyone knew him, everyone knew he was going to a top European club.

Dortmund’s biggest factor is the proof of development and opportunities to young players. It’s no use knowing who a player is unless you can actually make him want to sign for you.
