Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

90m+ seems too low. If that is the case, lot of clubs will be interested for the price you have mentioned & it will be difficult for us to get him.
110m+ - That's how much he is going to cost if he is coming to us.

I agree. Hence the 'weird feeling' bit. Weird feeling we'll get him on a much more 'reasonable-looking' deal (that actually meets Dortmund's price with some easily-met addons)

True, given Ole was in for Haaland, I think we want a super star to challenge Martial eventually, but not a proven super star, to have a bit of time.
So I would look into young CF that are clinical right now.
I just think that the guy is a future star striker.

We’re a club on the up, I can see him coming here. Prospects for this young team in a couple of years is quite exciting and I can see that being appealing to him.

With Haaland there now, it's possible Dortmund will be competing for the league and going deep into the CL for a couple of years, I can totally see him being more likely to stay. Clubs might take more time to raise the funds as well or wait till the contract runs down.
This is his last season in Dortmund for sure, the club has pretty much confirmed it. We were strongly linked with him last season and I believe he was our #1 target, not Maguire. But when the links suddenly cooled down, I'm assuming it's because he's done a Ronaldo.

In my humble opinion, United and United fans rate him higher than most clubs and their fans. When Dembele moved to Barca, he was even higher rated around the world than Sancho at the moment. That could be due to his world cup appearances and comparisons with Mbappe at the time. It works in our favor if we genuinely think he can lead us to trophies.

How was Dembele higher rated than Sancho?

Sancho now is as old as Dembele was when he moved to Barcelona. Dembele had 6 goals and 12 assists that season, last season Sancho got 12 and 13 and currently is on 13 goals, 14 assists and counting. So the one year younger Sancho already bettered Dembele while the same aged one is on a completely different level. Sure, stats won't tell you everything, but if you actually watch the games, Sancho's close control and decision making makes Dembele look like Emile Heskey.

At least in Germany, I don't think anybody rated Dembele higher than Sancho now. You guys can be lucky, with Sancho I think England has the biggest talent in the world in it's team.

Can't see Chelsea spending the ridiculous money that we're capable of doing. God I want to believe this can happen.

Finish with CL football, sign Sancho, walking in an Ole wonderland.

Sancho is special and he can provide us something different than what we have, it would be good to have him.
I like what Ole is doing with the squad now. We now have Bruno, and maybe Pogba, if not, we would have replaced him with one of the 2 players linked with (Maddison, Graelish...). But let's suppose Pogba stays, we need players to benefit from the passes.

Those players can potentially be:
Rashford, James
Martial + one back up
Sancho, Greenwood

Different options for different games. This could be phenomenal attack wise.

My only point was that I don't see why only United would be ahead, unless Sancho has shared something to us. But we wouldn't know. Maybe Ole or the club does.

I’d rather it be,

Rashford/James on the left

Martial/Greenwood as 9

Sancho/Lingard/Mata/Chong on the right

Going forward I’d rather see Greenwood playing as a central striker as I think long term he's going to be our main goal scorer and is going to be far more natural as a central striker than Martial is, I wouldn’t be against Martial being back up to Greenwood in a couple of years.

Like I've already mentioned in one of my other posts, I am not arguing who the better player is/was. I don't even know the answer to that.

I am saying Dembele was higher rated and playing in a France team that won a world cup had a big impact, along with his very obvious playing ability at the time.

Dembele was absolutely being touted as the next huge thing in football but he won the WC while at Barce not Dortmund. I definitely think he was being heralded more than Sancho though

Dont understand how people think Chelsea are in for Sancho when they bought Ziyech and are desperate for a striker as well?

Because Sancho wears Chelsea pyjamas and bedsheets obviously

;)

He was indeed. Certainly on here some looked on Rashford rather poorly by comparison, wondering why we didn’t go for him while at Rennes

Can someone explain to me where the links to Chelsea are coming from? They have Pulisic and are bringing in Ziyech, not to mention Willian and Pedro who are still on their books. I’d say a Sancho type signing would be one of the last positions they’d be looking to strengthen.

I think the biggest stumbling block for anyone challenging United for Sancho will be wages.

If we are serious, as it seems, we could chuck £300k per week at him. Nobody else will come close.

If he wants those kinds of wages as an unproven premier league player he will be going elsewhere. Part of the whole culture reboot thing is we are moving away from paying those kinds of wages

Yeah, I know, but I didn't intend to argue quality either. From my point of view, Dembele was never rated as much as Sancho currently is and the reasons I named underline why that is the case, IMO. It's obviously hard to quantify things like hype but at least where I'm from, I don't think Dembele ever had a hype close to Sancho right now and given their respective stats, I'd be very surprised if the opposite would be the case elswhere.

I just did a quick research on Google Trends and that seems to support my perspective. Dembele's search voluma were higher at the time of his moves, especially to Barcelona. But Sancho has a higher general interest throughout his time in Dortmund. If you look at the graphs, it can be expected that he'll generate much higher search requests when he finally leaves BVB.

We have to pull out all the stops to get him. Throw all of our budget at Dortmund if we have to. He’s not the final piece of the puzzle for our squad but he, IMO, is the biggest part of it. He’s gonna be the next big thing. We need to do a Rooney with this signing and make a statement.

We have a good chance. We’ve got the money, we’re a big club, the no.7 is available which would be enticing surely plus he has loads of mates at our club and has lived in Manchester previously. If we get CL, I’d say we were favourites. Without it, we’re just “in the running”

He was a Chelsea fan as a kid and they havent spent the Hazard money so I reckon pundits/journalists are just putting 2 and 2 together

He's on already on €6m per year at Dortmund (I assume gross) which is ~£100k pw. An already insane amount for a 19yo, so he's not gonna be cheap either way. I'd expect we'd have to offer something not far off double that, or otherwise something that is very heavily incentivised. But if he expects to come and be the club's top earner as a teenager, we'll have a problem. Talk of £300k pw is way overboard and that would have huge ripples in our team, worse than the Alexis Sanchez transfer.

I disagree entirely.

We’re certainly moving away from paying those wages in a stupid manner, to players well past their best. Martial and Rashford are on very big deals for younger players, however, and has DDG not signed on again at over £300k?

If Sancho is the one we want, as we suspect, then I don’t doubt we will pay him very big money if we need to in order to land him.

If he is the only player we buy this summer then I would consider it a good summer. He is a generational talent.

If he goes elsewhere I won't lose my mind, but I genuinely think he would be something special for us for the next decade. The Rooney comparison is incredibly apt

I have to admit that I was somehow under the impression that Dembele moved to Barca right after the world cup which is incorrect, and that makes my entire argument pretty redundant.

Regardless though, Google trends is actually a very interesting way to understand hype. I just looked at it too and attaching it here. The time range I chose is from the day Sancho moved to BVB to present. According to this, Sancho searches never reached the heights that Dembele's world cup campaign produced.

I used the search terms "Ousmane Dembele" and "Jadon Sancho" since Dembele is a much more common name than Sancho. I also used a longer interval, back to 2015. You can see there that the only times Dembele generated higher search voluma than Sancho was during the time of his moves.

I tried to embed the graphic but it didn't work for some reason, unfortunately. But just use the configurations I described and you'll see it.

Dembele had seriously high potential, moving to Dortmund after only 1 season was a huge error IMO. The injuries have obviously ruined his career now but it wasn't going well before that.

Then shouldn't Chelsea be in pole position? Despite them signing Ziyech. Who knows... Sancho likes Rashford so I think United wouldn't be a bad destination. He can see how we are building up Rashford status.

this is his career, he will sign for the team that offers him the best overall package in terms of money, ambition, chance of titles and so on. Who he supported as a kid is irrelevant. A minor bonus at best.

At the same time, there’s no way anyone would ever search for Dembele with his first name. I have no idea how it’s even spelled. Anyway, all too pedantic at this point.

I’d be open to Grealish if Pogba leaves, but if he doesn’t, it makes no sense at all to sign Grealish. How would that even work? People are asking whether Pogba and Fernandes can play together as it is, let alone Pogba, Fernandes and Grealish. I know it’s a squad game, but I think it may be overkill personally.

Yeah I can only see us going for Grealish if Pogba leaves, almost certain we will make Sancho our top target but in regards to DM I think our targets are being kept under wraps. Honestly think the ST situation is totally dependent on how Ighalo does until May.

Can't hear what he said.

He is clearly saying ”Glory glory Man United. Can’t wait to pair up with young Marcus. Ole at the wheel with the united dna. Feck chelsea and the fat fraud”.

Sancho is ours, close the thread.

You really think you can lowball a player who is already to be counted among the Top 5 players worldwide on his position? You really want to tell him, "Sorry bro, you have to earn your "Official Seal of PL quality" beforehand?

Think you're well away from reality if you don't think we'll go massive in every department for an English talent like Sancho, it's obvious we will, and we'll happily pay massive wages similar to what we're already paying Rashford and Martial, and rightfully so. "unproven premier league player"
