Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

I don't see why we would go for him to play as a RW when we have James doing the exact same thing with his right foot.

Either Sancho comes and plays as a LW or a False 9 as a player that improves our squad all over. If he is going to cost 100 mil just to take James's role at RW - I don't see why that would be worth it.

Because James, as good as he is right now, is still a young player that will inevitably hit a patch of bad form and/or get injured at which we have zero actual right wingers in the team. There's still a non zero chance that James is currently in a purple patch, over performing and will regress to a lower level.

We need a right winger. If a talent like Sancho actually becomes available and is willing to come here then buying him is a no brainer really.

Because we'd then have that thing we had in the 1990's and 2000's... squad depth.

How has his development been so far this season? I've not heard much about him.

Sancho is a better dribbler and is better in tighter spaces. We're comparing 19 year old Sancho to 21 year old James. We can have both in the team.

Agree. He's already 19, it's like if Sanchez' transfer hadn't taught us anything.
:D I only want player who wants to play for United. Not for the gigantic wage, but for the club history, tradition, and the best fans in the world.
Just like Rashford, Martial, DDG, and Maguire, etc.

Maybe this will lead to a drop in their asking price for him.

Yeah and also increase our chances of actually getting him. If he has an amazing season, I don't know why he would chose to join us ahead of a CL club.

if anyone was wondering why Favre wasn't too pleased

That's not to say it was Sancho's fault that Dortmund lost (and I don't think anyone is scapegoating him). The team as a whole disappointed.

We are short on numbers in attack, not just in quality. When our bench options are Lingard, Mata and Greenwood, that's why we need another right winger and striker. Greenwood is young and will be a back up player for a while yet while Mata and Lingard should probably be used as cup players or even sold.

Our best front 3 is Rashford, Martial and James. Adding Haaland and Sancho for instance would give the quality in depth that we are craving so much.

It was only a few weeks back that Lingard came on and played as a striker as we didnt haven anyone else. That is unacceptable.

There is a bit of a theme with him on his attitude, I wonder if he can turn that round at Dortmund or he'll just move.

If James played for Dortmund as he is now we would be salivating over the thought of signing him.
Just shows how quickly football can change and why footballers try to force moves instead of waiting for another year as fans say.

Injuries happen though. We had 3 injuries to the one position, we cant plan with 4 players in each posifion due to this rare occurance.
Our squad would be huge

4 players in each position? Rare occurrence? Are you wumming me?

We currently have 3 good attackers for 3 positions with Greenwood in the mix too. When the inevitable injuries happen, you need a couple of backups. Good backups.. other wise, well... Jesse Lingard...

Our squad would be huge
CF: Martial, Haaland, Rashford, Greenwood
LW: Rashford, James, Martial
RW: Sancho, James, Greenwood
AM: Pogba (or someone else if he goes), Pereira/Mata/Lingard (who knows who'll stay)

That would sort our attacking depth out. Might seem harsh on James but we could do with healthy competition.

My problem is that 3 out of our 4 attackers are right footed. Only Greenwood is left footed and we need a left footed RW more than Sancho to even out the squad in my opinion.

Sancho does a great job playing off the right side. Why does it matter what foot he prefers to use? Hes actually quite good with his left foot and often 'shows' defenders onto that side. Sancho is perfect for us and the way we want to play.

Because again I think James does the exact same thing on the right wing & Sancho hasn't impressed me much this season for Dortmund or England.

I do still want him to an extent for squad number sake but again I'd like to have a left footed RW come in first & then possibly reshape Sancho because I don't think RW is his long term best position.

Nah, there's no comparison. James peformances have been nice but nothing worth 'salivating' over. For that, see Sancho's peformances from last season which were the stuf of an absurdly talented footballer. That Sancho benches James with ease. Of course attitude is important and Sancho has to have a solid one to be a top player.

why are we not recognizing a player (James) who is actually proving to be the best signing we have made as a winger in ages, and instead salivating over a player who shows potential and in all honesty might not actually join us. Fans these days have no patience. If we had a decent striker james would have had at-least 5 more assists to his name.

Tell me any league that does?

What manager that values self respect and the respect of his players puts up with players with “attitude?”

Didn't Wenger create a whole generation of whiners at Arsenal by coddling them? Kepa got his way with Sarri last season and Liverpool bent over backwards for Suarez.

Becuase James is good while 18/19 Sancho was phenomenal. There's a difference. Just like there's a difference between Rashford and Mbappe (albiet his attitude has never been under question and he's better than Sancho).

The assist bit is just a tool to big up James. You'd think he was a young Eden Hazard going by posts. I like the kid, but let's not pretend he's solved the RW for a decade. He's not as good as a 19 year old Martial, for example and there are many here who a disappointed by him too.

Do note that of Sancho is a bad apple I wouldn't go for him. But I wouldn't stop looking for a RW. I

I never compared James to anyone. I said we have in James a player who can attack and defend well has an engine on him and does the simple stuff very well. Key piece is Consistency. We need players like him, putting him down for a player like Sancho who has had 1 good season so far is a little premature. And that is what i meant by fans not being patient, when they see players like james who do the basics quite well and effectively they instantly want the dribbling, step over type player who 'excite' them!

Regarding James' numbers, can we give him a full season before you discard him?

Thats because we are watching full games of James and every move he makes. If we saw his youtube collection as a Dortmund player, in a team that was flying, we would be going mad over James. Especially since he seems to have added a final ball to his pace.
We had Dortmund fans coming on here trying to kill down the hype of Sanchos performances for a reason. Fans tend to get lost in something new but Sancho started at zero with United fans and caught the imagination while James started at minus 10 with talk of Brexit FC and moves on loan before he made his debut. Hes fighting more of an uphill battle but if Sancho played as well v City as James did in his Swansea days, Chelsea and Liverpool in his first few months in the public eye then his performance thread would be full of pay what it takes, scouting shit etc.

Who said anything about discarding him? We'd have to sell Rashford, Martial or James before signing another attacker?

I'm sorry but it's all well and good doing the basics well but eventually if you want to challenge the top sides you need players with those elite abilities. Isn't it surprising that the best footballers on the planet don't merely do basics well but have exceptional qualities?

What I'd do is keep our front three, and add an immensely gifted RW like Sancho or someone else and possibly a CF depending on Greenwoods readiness (but hopefully not with him developing well).

I have this terrible feeling he will pick Chelsea over us. It’s making me sick just thinking about it. We need to get our act together and finish top 4 if there’s any chance of buying him. I like a front 3 of rashford LW, Martial CF and Sancho RW.

also Bayern still scored 3 goals after he came off so I’m not sure were the correlation of Dortmund losing and him at fault started?

No it's because he performed at a level James never has. If I'm not mistaken he was among the absolute highest assists getters in all of Europe - up there with the likes of Messi. At the age of 19. It wasn't to do with expectations. It was his ball control, dribbling, and ability to pick out a pass that set him far apart from young players like James. Now it's a different matter if it turns out that he's another Dembele who doesn't have his head screwed on right. But if he does, then he'll leave players like James in the dust. And that's no slight on James either who I really like. The kid is terrific. But there's a difference between the likes of Hazard and Pulisic, for example. You can like one but acknowledge that difference.

I'd say it's a guarantee he'll pick Chelsea if they finish top 4 and we don't, if we both finish top 4 though it's probably a toss up.

Hopefully they aren't willing to spend that big.

In a straight up choice nobody is picking Ole over Frank. Unless maybe somebody like Haaland who has worked under Ole.

Not necessarily, especially taking into consideration current strengths of the teams.

For all this talk of Ole being a rookie, Frank is barely an embryo in comparison. Ole has managed for around a decade, won a league, numerous trophies as our reserve manager, and broke records for consecutive wins in his first season with us. Frank has done nothing.
