Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

Surely getting rid of Smalling and Lingard would give us enough for Sancho and a LB? (Assuming we're not upgrading at CB as Ole's fond of Maguire/Lindelof)

I can understand not getting this deal over the line because of the price tag, but not having an alternative or going into the new season with one new signing is unacceptable.

Yeah the players were just lazy, barely seemed like they gave a crap. Hopefully Ole can correct that right away and give them a bollicking

I don't know, people are seemingly forgetting that our players barely played or trained in the last month. In a normal season this would be the first 10 days of preseason and second friendly.

If we're offering say 100mil euro and they are saying no, 120mil, and we simply cant afford that, i just dont understand why that 100mil hasnt went to other positions like CB, LB, DM.

Are they that incompetent or do they have the intention to pay the 120mil if it comes to that in the last week and dortmund havent budged
I think people are overthinking this, tbh. We clearly still believe we can sign him, either for less than Dortmund’s price or under more favourable terms on the structure of the deal.

United have regularly told journos, Andy Mitten included, that they’re conscious of the perception of spending that sort of money during a pandemic. I suspect we’ll go a lot higher in the final days than we’re admitting to now but are willing to sit tight and hope that it softens Dortmund’s resolve. If it becomes apparent we can’t get him then I’d expect that some of that money might be freed for other playe(s), albeit my guess is that we’re just going to go back into the “We’ll get Sancho next summer” loop and ostensibly set the money aside.

Hearing Ole and now Shaw, bemoaning a lack of reinforcements, I'm inclined to believe that they have heard something conclusive with regards to this.
It may explain the malaise of the team yesterday. On top of the poor physical performance.

What really irritates me is that we are always so late with our deals. Dortmund know we are desperate at this stage and they don't have to budge on the price at all. Our deals always go down to the wire and like you said the fact that we never have a backup strategy makes all this even worse. TBH if I was Zorc I would say, "every week from now on the price goes up €10M because it will make it harder for us to find a replacement on such short notice." And it would serve us right.

It’s obvious from the players demeanor during the palace game as well as what’s starting to slip in media that players aren’t happy. Get some fecking deals done! Sancho and one other could work but at this point its if the owners will splash the cash or not. People are already on edge with Corona. It doesn’t take much for fans to go ape shit crazy and then you have a repeat at Woodward’s house.
The Glazers need to go. I can’t even believe they have the audacity to put Sir Alex in the same tele frame with Woodward! What an utter cluster feck!

Anyone else see Andy Mitten on SSN just now?

said Sancho isn’t happening.

3 months spent on one player.. and they don’t even sign him. Cool
Could you elaborate a bit on what he said re Sancho please mate? I've tried looking around on the net but the only clip I could find was ninety seconds long which was talking about how poor the recruitment was. Thanks if you can.

Guys I changed my mind.
I was the one arguing that we dont need Sancho cuz Greenwood will be a beast at RW but after seeing Tottenham I changed my mind.
We need Sancho. Spurs have Son and Kane and now theyve added Bale, their team is something, thats a better 3 than what we have and theyre a tier 2 team. 4th position is their ceiling.

When you see how much Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton have improved and they all did, as of right now we arent much better if better at all than those teams.

Hence Im sorry for arguing against Sancho, I changed my mind, we need Sancho, a new LB too and we need to do something about the CB situation. Either cover it with Baily/Smalling/Mengi or get a new one.
Also we will need to get Declan Rice at some point.

I mean its what it is, these other teams are improving and pushing us to get more players.

I hope your wrong but before the game kicked off I could also sense something in Ole’s demeanour, he seemed deflated before the game even kicked off.

I know ‘caf body language experts’ but in his interview before the game he didn’t seem his bubbly self.

We either get Sancho or we get left behind.
To make top 4 this year you will need a team capable of competing in the champions league.
What got us top 4 last year, United and Chelsea, this year that level of play wont get you top 8.
Too many teams have improved.

I don't think so. Even if he'd been told there's no more signings or anything like that no way would he show it to the tv.

This happens at every transfer window. The Media go nuts with dozens of players ‘linked’ with United that is not true. They real targets are overpriced and our board are not skilful enough to negotiate a reasonable deal. Remember the lawyers turning up somewhere to sign some mystery player? That was all bollocks. We should forget Sancho and chase a quality CB and left back plus a winger that is not hyped to death. The Scousers have signed two world class players for less than half of what Dortmund want for one player who isn’t quite world class. He’s not Ronaldo by a long stretch.

We will just have to suck it that we are not top four material and likely won’t be for another two windows. This stuff about not training or only had ten days doesn’t mean they couldn’t try. I mean Pogba passed to Palace more than his team mates and you don’t need a month of training to figure out who is in red and who isn’t.

Andy Mitton does not know our transfer dealings nor does any of our players,ex players or Fabrizo whatever or any of these idiots people keep listening too thinking they are ITK.

Every year these threads go on and on because too many people get carried away and pay too much attention to absolute bluffers who have no access to Woodward or the people who actually conduct the transfers .

He was asked if United should have signed Bale on loan. He replied along the lines of (I’ll have to paraphrase a little)

“when I spoke to Woodward in October he spoke about the new recruitment process in place which suggests there is a plan A, plan B, plan C. Sancho has long been the Plan A and that isn’t happening for many reasons, mainly due to United not willing to pay the £108m. From what I hear Bale wasn’t plan B or even C”

Jota is a back up for their front 3 and Thiago was in the last year of his contract and probably has no sell on value, thus the relatively low price. If Sancho was already in a big team, they would not have even considered selling him.

We have only ourselves to blame for this situation. If Sancho is too pricey, buy someone else. What's the point of having scouts. I think it's simply a case of incompetence at every level of the club. Woodward is horrible as a CEO of a football club, but the people below him are equally bad. We are going nowhere with these clowns at the helm and I have kind of made my peace with it.

I still watch the matches and do get irritated when we lose or play like that yesterday but it barely affects me as much as it used to since this is now the new normal for Manchester United.

Us having backup players to our primary target is a "new recruitment process"? What did we have earlier then!

Sounds absolute BS to me.

Yep because I'm sure Woodward is going to divulge all his transfer plans to Mitten. He has as much of a clue about what we're doing as the rest of us! I'm not saying we're definitely going to sign Sancho, but to say Mitten should be believed is a no go.

Sounds to me like he's after some attention in light of a bad result

But United now have a major new scouting network, with all the bells and whistles. Surely we could single out some alternatives (getting sick of typing that word) from the vast numbers of players we've looked at ?
Uh,no.

If you mean me, I’m just the messenger

But yeah the recruitment process since Woodward seems to have been very haphazard. With lots of panic buys

Ah thanks pal, what a bummer. I'm hoping we go back on our word but unfortunately it seems it isn't likely. Think this one is going to be parked for next year now. It's crucial however, that we do bring in the plan b, even if it's someone experienced on loan

So Woodward specifically said were not signing Sancho because of many reasons and he has alternatives lined up? Or is this Mittens interpretation of things. If we genuinely weren't signing him we'd have briefed as much by now as we tend to do when giving up on targets

It is, United have been saying that for years. Including having different targets depending on whether we qualify for the Europa League or Champions League. Mitten is the master of using lots of words to say very little and never breaks news on United.

Yeah, and what other options would you suggest?
Fact is, everyword that comes out of the managers mouth is scrutinized. Even if their is no intention from a comment, an intention would be manufactured for clicks.
The less said the better, rather repeat a boring line than start of ranting of your likes and dislikes to the public.
Keep your dirty laundry to yourself, I say.
Then at least change the boring line for a generic one something like "we are working on getting better, results will come" I dont know somethint like that. Im just really tired of hearing "Its not good enough for ManUtd, something about Sir Alex".

Sir Alex left 8 years ago we should move on, even Ole mentioning him just get on my nerves, I feel he does it to bring back nostalgia and remember fans he was a important player in that time and somehow deviate pressure from him. I get he must save face but damn its been a season and a half with the same bullshit I guess I just got sick of it by now.

If that is case when are we starting on plan B? After the window closes?
Id have thought if it was true, we'd have moved on by now and info about us going on to someone else would have been leaked.

Not saying we haven't given up on Sancho, but there's nothing to say we have?

Personally I cant wait until the window is closed. The club is a mess at the moment

Im not sure even sure why we haven’t given up. Either we pay the damn fee or we don’t. It don’t take that long to work it out surely. It’s farcical and leaves a negative stain on the whole club.

Thats the thing, history tells us that this is a typical United strategy. Let it drag, say were walking away and looking elsewhere then pay up anyway, sometimes getting a small amount knocked off. We've done it quite a few times in the past, nothing to suggest this is any different (even with Covid, wed do the same regardless)

I can’t remember the interview well because I read it almost a year ago. He just said about how they are now operating a new scouting system. Like for example when we want a striker, we will compile a shortlist of 50, which gets shortened to 10, then like 5. It sounds stupid but it’s what he said. The interview is available online.

Sancho not happening because of the price and Bale not being one of our top targets for the right Forward position was his own current info

Aaaah i get you, so he's speculating based on recent reports and the time it's taking to get the deal done.

As i say though, i don't think he has any more of a clue than the rest of us and only time will tell whats going on.

Hard to believe that we'd stick with Sancho for so long if we didn't intend on eventually just paying whats required. If we genuinely had given up on him, we'd have moved on by now, it makes no sense to spend a whole summer chasing one target just to give up with little time left to get someone else.

Yeah. So it's either Mitten trying to pass this off as new info or Woodward trying to show off how things are moving in the right direction.

Honestly the amount of people on here who think Andy is just some chancer who makes things up for attention.

It's embarrassing. Andy has worked his way up as a journalist building up contacts and trust in football for over 25 years. He's interviewed top players like Messi and managed to get interviews with Jose when he was at United, and Woodward more recently.

He reported that Coman fancies playing for United after having interviewed him. He literally got that from the player himself and yet still people think he makes it all up.

Does my nut in it does.

Well said. I don't get it either mate.

I don’t believe he makes things up, I just don’t think he knows an awful lot. He’s mostly an opinion piece kind of journalist. Anybody with an ounce of wit knows that what he describes isn’t a new process unless United were lying when they said that was the case years previously.

It's worries me that we play Brighton and Spurs before deadline day after the results they've had today. If we don't pick up points Sancho might tell us to feck off regardless of whether we stump up the cash.
