Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

Can someone explain to me how we can even afford 120m on top of VdB this year? We're already going to struggle this year due to corona.
It's 120m euros which is £108m pounds. We usually spend around 150m a year on average.

Not to go the whole net spent argument that certain clubs do, but last season United offloaded Lukaku too, and this summer Sanchez and his wages.

The entire Maguire and quite a bit of the AWB fee can be taken away from both those players. Although United did spend big last summer, it wasn't as big as people thought.

I went to a Benz dealership yesterday. The salesman told me the price ( which was also written on the display.) , I asked him for a 75% discount because of pandemic. He said no. I said I would not pay full price. I stood my ground. Then walked out. Proud of myself

it will be more accurate if on the display was also written
"Because of Covid situation paying cash you will get 20% discount"

Let's be honest 108 mln for Sancho is robbery.

We need something definitive to shut this door for now, like the links to Bale are permanently going to be closed tomorrow, so we can move on, like Sancho actually comes out and says he's staying atleast another year....

Personally I am growing more and more on the idea of Traore, maybe 50m plus Dalot would do the trick...
From which team?

This will affect Dortmund's financials a great deal. Certainly a big enough deal for them to re-evalaute their 2020 financial plans.
Ehm ... what?

Having 10.000 fans or not doesn't affect Dortmund at all. They actually planned with zero fans for the rest of 2020.

They talk a lot but the reality is that they are a feeder club. Must hurt deep down.

So what what are we? We haven't been interested in being Top club for years. I'd be looking closer to him before slagging Dortmund for wanting what their player is easily worth.

Our reality at the moment is just as bad mate. Doing the hokey hokey with the Champions league every year whilst the Glazers take more and more money out the club. :(

James Cooper saying he rates our chances at about 40%.
Thats almost 1 in 2 chance, which if you’re being optimistic is like a 2 in 3 chance. But no one likes to think in thirds so just round up, to a 100% chance.

I just ran this again and I think you’ve got a little dot and some curved lines in the wrong places but all in all, it checks out.

Also according to my maths we’re signing him for £10.80. Bargain.

I find these threads on here really weird (hence largely avoiding).

Nothing has changed in weeks yet you get loads of posters popping in declaring with some strange confidence that it is 'on' or 'definetly off now lads'.

Anyway this was also useless, enjoy. Fingers crossed we get him.

Im a UTD fan first and foremost and have been for a long time - 1983 in fact, Cardiff are my local club gotta support the local team as well. But re Sancho - I do think he's probably a very good player but £110m - its not my money but i wouldnt be spending that on him. We've been stung to many times - Pogba £89m would you buy him again at that price? Lakaku? Di Maria? Depay? Veron? They are just the bad examples - but we are slating Maguire at £75m and AWB at £50m. You cant win really. Look at Bruno, he was a great purchase - good price in total and hes been a revelation. Sancho will be nearly double Bruno will he twice as good?
Same, from Cardiff myself as well. Always been United for me, could never warm to Cardiff the club.

I see your logic but it's very hard to compare value when talking about top flight football, this kids numbers across Europe are up there with the very best and that's in comparison with players much older and established, he won't reach his peak for another 8 years, which is frightening really. So you have to factor that in as well. Plus his marketability etc which is a big aspect, especially for a club like United as we invest a lot into player marketability.

Re Pogba, I definitely would. I'm one of his biggest fans/defenders on here though. :wenger:

For THIS long? I know it's a lot of money but christ on a bike
Who knows what the sticking point is. We’ve probably agreed to pay 120mil Euros it’s just how and when it’s paid.

Add ons probably provide United with comfort where Dortmund would rather not have them and probably happier if it’s just 120mil in instalments. Like 80 now, 20 next year, 20 the year after.
United might not want to pay 80mil upfront as they maybe have other targets on top of Sancho.

I’d love it if Ed just phoned up Zorc and was like ok let’s hash this out but judge probably deals with the face to face then answers to Ed who answers to the Glazers. Zorc probably has an overlord he has to run these things by as well.

If Dortmund are dependent on getting fans back in the stadiums it will certainly be a gamble as can only see more of this happening.
Time to put in an offer Woody.

Can you explain how Dortmund is affected by this?

Germany consists of 16 federal states, which all have their own governments and regulations & rules. If I'm not mistaken the decision to allow fans in the stadium and how many even goes down further the pecking order to the "Gesundheitsamt" (local health authority) level.

Thus, banning fans in Munich doesn't mean Dortmund being also not allowed to let fans in their stadium. That's how it works in Germany.

Yeah I imagine you're right. Lots of red tape. Get the impression United are one of the biggest pains in the arse to deal with in the transfer front.

regarding this topic, I was totally fine until Kai Havertz was signed. Sancho and Kai are in the same tier. (At worst) I had assumed that as soon as Kai's one would be done, Jadon would follow right after!
"At worst" because the "romantic" in me thought Jadon would be signed on August 7th!!!

Probably banking on selling Smalling and about 4 others for a nice sum of around £60m to help fund it too.

Not brought in a single penny yet and it's the 17th September.
Hope not, because that just isn't realistic.

It's not now I agree. Selling 5 players for combined fee of 60m seemed reasonable 3 months ago though. Smalling alone was being touted at 20m. So 40m spread out over 4 players wasn't that unrealistic back then.

Think we know that we find it hard to shift our players due to their wages though. Anyone who is willing to take a punt on our deadwood probably wants a loan with us continuing to pay towards wages.

The key to anything happening here is in our ability to offload first......

the Smalling to Roma saga has gone on all summer as well - at one point it was all done - now looks off....

Romero - why hasn’t he gone yet?

Rojo/Jones - we just need their salaries off the books - we won’t get any transfer fees but making room re salaries is key to allowing us to pursue Sancho

However, Ed and his team are just as effective at selling as they are at buying......hence the stalemate we are in
