Jack Grealish

With Pogba leaving there certainly is a chance we would try to get him. I'd take him over Pogba any day of the week.

He is. Best player in the league, and would improve any side in the world.
Not even top 5.

KDB, Sterling, Kane, Bruno, Salah, Mane, Virgil, Son are clearly above him.

He's been great this season but lets not blow things out of proportion.

what difference does price actually make?

couldn’t care less if we are seen to ‘overpay’ for the right players. I remember everyone saying Rio Ferdinand was too expensive.

Rice is clearly a better player than Fred.

The risk is if it doesnt work out and we are handcuffed a bit on future signings for a season or two.

I agree with this for the most part, but I suspect Sterling wouldn't fare nearly as well if he and Grealish swapped teams. Grealish has the rare mentality of a true champion, I think.

Should pay anything to get him here - has that swagger and class that no one has in the league. Just doesn't give the ball away and makes the right decision 9/10. Would elevate everyone's game to another level

If we lose Pogba, then we need to get him. As much as we need a CDM and a CB (and we really do need to address both of those positions), we also need someone to provide a bit creative magic. I know he isn't a like-for-like swap with Pogba, but getting him would be a real sign of intent.

While he would be a great addition, him signing a contract last summer made him too expensive. No way he would cost less than 100m pounds.

Is he really a replacement for Pogba? They play in two very different ways.

I want Grealish here but I'm not sure if he replaces Pogba exactly.

Grealish is a left winger, or sometimes a number 10.

He isn't going to play in a 2 man midfield like Pogba,Mctominay,Fred.

So it'll be Grealish instead of Rashford or Bruno. Losing Pogba makes no difference unless we push Bruno deeper.

we don’t need to replace Pogba, we need to add creativity to the first 11. That’s what Grealish would add. Doesn’t matter that they don’t play in the same position.

frankly after 5 years, I’m not sure where Pogba plays best in any case.

I am sure Grealish could find a rythm with Bruno in the centre and mixing it up with Shaw down the left. If we got a more defensively minded CM as well, I think that would make us a more balanced team.

Laughable

How is that laughable when stats suggest he's certaintly up there.

It depends how you judge 'the best' if you judge goals as a means of who is the best, then obviously Jack Grealish is not the best player in the league, but if you judge creativity, then Jack Grealish is up there, top 3 i believe in chances created but doing this at an average club who doesn't really create that many chances compared to big clubs.

Stick him one of the traditional big 6 clubs in England (excluding a Jose Mourihno side) and i believe he would be top of the list.

Last few games Pogba has mainly been used in Grealish’s preferred position. After years of being generally underwhelming whenever he plays any deeper. If we’re looking at upgrading McFred (which most people think is needed) then Grealish becomes an even more obvious Pogreplacement.

While that's true I don't think we will be using Pogba as a LW in the long term, Rashford is the clear number 1 if he's fit in that position.

Do you think Grealish would play CM? I don't.

Well this season he’s probably played most his games in the three forward positions hence grealish would be a brilliant upgrade on him.

Think he could in a 3, but doing that means moving Bruno which is a no go. If he does move to us he would be coming in from the left.

Not to interject but do you reckon Bruno could do a job on the right? He played as an inside right forward for Sporting somewhat regularly.

Feels like some sort of 4-3-2-1 might be quite decent - Rashford up top, Grealish and Bruno moving inside between the lines as Rashford pushes defenses back, a sitting midfield to distribute with Fred & McT either side as shuttlers / pressers.

Think that was just situational with Rashford being injured or playing on the right because he was the most adequate option on the right that we had. Generally for any squad building purposes anyone at the club has, I think Bruno and Rashford are locked and loaded at #10 and LW, with the RW and ST being the question marks, whether Greenwood takes over one of the 2 eventually, Diallo, or we buy for both. Rashford is basically the face of the club, he just isn't going to be pushed out of position permanently by signing Grealish imo, and Grealish never plays on the right. I just don't see it for the price he'd cost.

Grealish screams to me a Man City buy tbh. Quality player, just not one we'll get. Sancho is the one who has looked like a United player since day 1 IMO, and has proven more than Grealish despite being 5 years younger.

I think Bruno is the type that can do a job in any position, his stamina and work rate combined with his skillset would make him a decent winger. He'd probably need a flying fullback to keep the width for him though.

A front 3 of Rashford, Grealish and Bruno would be pretty nice.

Grealish has proven he can be an absolute top class PL footballer. One of the very best in the league. I’d take that sort of “proof” over any Bundesliga achievements tbh. Didn’t Mikhtaryan have some of the best creative stats in that league at one point?

Unless he has a gentleman’s agreement with Villa, he’s going to be there for a few more years yet.

Grealish I like and I think is very talented - do I think he is right at the very top of European talent? nope but he is still very good. Rice I dont get at all.
Bale was never at the very top of European talent either

Sadly, you're probably right, unless he agitates for a move, which seems unlikely.

Agree. But I dont think there is any chance he will be leaving this summer.

Literally scores the best CL campaign football and people dont think he was a world class talent.

He was influential on so many big games for Real Madrid.

One of my favourite players in the past decade.

At spurs he was scoring ridiculous goals vs Inter when he was breaking through in his new position.

Extremely different levels of performance, Sancho had ~ 15 goals and 15 assists playing as a right winger at the age of 18/19, and then at 19/20 got 20 goals and 20 assists. On pace for over 15 goals and 15 assists again this season. He's an attacking player with excellent technique, brilliant dribbling, is a natural on the right, is a really smart and talented passer, has good decision making and has shown all these to a high level in both the Champions League and the Bundesliga since he was 18. All you gotta do is checkout his profile on fbref and see just how many passing, creativity, dribbling and progression stats he absolutely dominated and is ranked in the high 90's percentile across the main European leagues for best underlying stats.

Mkhitaryan had a consistently very good last season at Dortmund, but at United was more like the other 2 where he was up and down. He was nowhere near Sancho, was also what, 27 or so when he joined? Sancho just turned 21.

There are only 2 players 21 or under who are dead certs as they've already performed to a world class level for over 1 year, Dortmund have them both in Haaland and Sancho (Mbappe is 22). The only reason he isn't rated higher is because people don't watch the Bundesliga as much and he's a creative player, not primarily a goal scorer (and scores a very good amount anyway). Once he goes to the premier league he'll show how he's actually one of the best attacking players around and has been for the past few seasons.

Grealish is having a great season. Yes also turning 26 at the start of next season, so is 5 years older than Sancho. He's also pretty much only performed at a truly elite level this season or since lockdown, but before it wasn't close to this level. He's also a #10 or a left winger. He would also cost a lot more due to the new contract and Villa being rich and him now wanting to leave, vs Sancho's contract, wanting to come back to the prem, Dortmund not being in a great spot financially.

So between them, Sancho is 5 years younger, has regularly exceeded him in productivity playing in a top 5 league and the CL (even if you just look at this season for Grealish), Sancho is a natural on the right and equally good on the left while Grealish has pretty much never played on the right and his 2 positions are where our 2 best attacking players pretty much exclusively play, and Sancho would easily be cheaper this summer. It's a no brainer between them and if Sancho played in the prem, people would view it as a no brainer. Not to say Grealish isn't quality, just he doesn't make sense for us and certainly not ahead of Sancho.

Yeah Madrid fans don't think of him as at the very top of European talent either.

Bolded bit explains it.

He would've signed a release clause if he wanted out tbh. IMO he'll easily be 120m+ this summer. It's not a realistic signing unless you spend stupid money that only City can afford but have never actually spent on just 1 player. Though I could see them making a push for Grealish and Haaland to spead head their rebuild with so many aging players.
