Jack Grealish

Glad to see the turn around in opinion.

With all due respect though, if he does leave he'll have far bigger fish to fry than United which is sad to say. Would not have been true 10 years ago.
Seriously?

I’m happy to admit United aren’t as great these days as they were. Suggesting that he’d have bigger fish to fry is silly. United are capable of signing the better players out there.

Can see Man. City buying him if a few of their key players actually leave because of the ban.

Mind you as you did with Maguire you can outbid them as City won't just up their bid for every player.

If they keep the ban why would he want to go there? No CL football for at least two years.

Don't think people grasp the impact this could have on not only new prospective players but current ones too.

Who are these bigger fish you are talking about? Curious whether you posted it randomly non sense or you actually properly posted it with your brain.

You think Pep is staying without CL?

Well when ban came through I thought he'd be off but he did that big speech with the squad so assume he'll give next season a go at least.

Think winning the league back off Liverpool is motivation enough for him next season.

I'd say he'll stay till the appeal fails.

If Grealish is happy, good for him. As soon as we signed Van de Beek it was obvious he wasn't coming to United.

However, its a strange response from someone who was rumoured to have been worried about being priced out of a move this summer. A five year extension means Villa will be under no pressure to accept any bids for him any time soon.

Good play by Villa, if that £80m rumour was true they’ve priced him out of a move. Nobody was ever going to pay that much for him. I wonder if his new contract has additional clauses/buy out or something. I’m sure he still has ambitions to step up.

He loves playing for us.

I get the feeling he'll give it another 12-18 months and see who else we sign in the meantime. They're not world beaters but Milot Rashica and Bertrand Traore will be a step up in quality for final third compared to what we signed last summer so he should have more creativity and pace either side of him and hopefully Watkins can finish off a decent number of chances we create.

Barry was 28 when he left us and won a title at Man. City and had a few years in CL. Young was about 26 so think he'll give it another two years and then push to leave when he's 27 if we're nowhere close to top 6, nice wage boost in the meantime.

Fair play to him if he genuinely wants to stay at Villa long term but I hope for his own sake that he's had some exit/release clauses put into his contract.

I fear he might've Zaha'd himself if not

Nice signings. I watched Lyon a lot when Traore was there and I thought he looked good. Himself, Memphis, Fekir and Mariano were a brilliant attack one season. You have to hope your attack isn't as impotent this year with the signings you've made so far.

Great business by villa, horrendous by Grealish. No Euro's next year for certain. He clearly doesn't mind not stepping up. Villa could be relegated in two years. Not exactly the ambition to reach the very top, loyal yeah but awful footballing decision for his career.

When interviewed at the end of last season he seemed like a player keen to move on. So, of course he signs a new 5 year contract!

If he hasn't got a release clause this is a really strange move. Making it easy for a top club to sign you could be the difference between spending your career at Villa and getting an opportunity to excel at Champions League level.

I'm going to put my cynical hat on and guess there's some sort of relegation clause in there. (where there might not have been before)

Villa have spent some money.. If they can be mid table, he might be happy to stay there for a couple more seasons..
Good for both of them..

I admire his loyalty, in all honesty. I know he loves his club, but won't Villa just price him out of a move again in 12-18 months, having signed this new contact, if the club is still just hovering above the relegation zone?

I've always felt this kind of player/club loyalty is very one-sided. If Grealish wasn't as good as he is, say he was actually a really bad player who isn't good enough for Villa, it wouldn't matter that he's a big Villa fan who really loves the club, he'd likely be released or sold off to the lower leagues. That's what I'd be thinking anyway, if I was in that situation.

Fair play to him.

I imagine he'll have some sort of relegation clause to leave at a set price

Villa showing ambition. Fair play to them.

He’s still a weirdo for wearing kids’ shorts though.

It basically means no one was seriously in for him when it came to it.

Probably got wind that we are not signing him so he commits his future to Villa. Fair play to him, wouldn't mind seeing him in our squad. He's a fearless player on the pitch

Aka nobody would buy me and I won’t force a move because it’s my boyhood club.

Maybe. But it won't help if they finish between 11th and 15th every season. Who knows what's in the contract but if in 12 months he wants out and Villa price him out of a move again, he only has himself to blame.

Are you sure about this one? The Lyon fans seem thrilled to be getting rid of him.
Traore has been shocking, as you say Lyon fans are happy to see the back of him. Apparently they paid 10m for him and are amazed they're selling him for 20m

Fair play to the lad, but if he honours the five-year deal he will be a forgotten footballer in no time after his career ends.

I thought he was terrific for Ajax in their euro league 2017 run, Lyon signed him on how well he played v them in the europa semi final.

Hasn't quite worked out for him in France but did better in France than El Ghazi who is a hugely inconsistant player for us. We badly need more pace in the final third as our counter attacking ability was non-existent last season.

Would have liked to see him play for us but fair play to him for staying at his boyhood club. Still way too for them. Hopefully he keeps his form up and end up playing himself into the Euro squad.

He’ll spend another 2 season playing LW with fans claiming him to be one of the best central players in the league.

Fair play to him for the loyalty and he’ll still have enough time in 2 seasons to secure the big move.
