Nah, he really isn't. Not sure how you could seriously think that when Werner has more than double the goals Martial does and double the amount of assists too this season.
Ole is the only reason not to play a 4-4-2 diamond formation.

I think you'd need some decent wing backs to make that work, which United don't really have.
Werner is a good player and is rapid and actually plays on the move so he has qualities which would be good for United but not in the setup you propose - I am yet to see him play well without having another forward alongside him who plays more with his back to goal for Werner to play off of.
Have you goggled his stats or have you actually watched him?
It’s funny when people talk with such conviction and reality is they haven’t even watched the player.
Grealish is a good example. Try explaining to people on here 4 months ago that his up there and infact better than Maddison.

But when you get a chance spend some time and actually watch him. He’s better than Daniel James. Martial and Rashford though?? No chance.
I think it the other way round, we have to avoid hiring managers with highly contrasting styles like we did when we went from Van Gaal to Mourinho. Van Gaal recruited poorly and strangely changed from the 4-3-3 that helped him in the second half of his first season to a 4-2-3-1 but under him we had a distinctive style that allowed us to almost go toe to toe with anyone but we just lacked the creative players to unlock defences. When Mourinho came our decline on the ball was noticeable and eventually the team fell into chaos. If we had gone for someone who values principles of possession play but less dogmatic in his preferences we would have grown as a team instead of ripping everything apart and starting again. I'd say going from someone like Van Gaal to Pochettino would have been progressive in terms of developing the team.

If we can bring in Sancho and Grealish whilst keeping hold of Pogba, I'd be delighted with our squad. With those signings, we would have good cover in every position, much like all the top teams have now.
Grealish is incredibly versatile and seems very effective in every position he plays. This is very valuable to a squad because we will avoid half of the injuries we've suffered this season and when there are injuries we can simply rotate and bring in someone else with quality.

I've seen him play, wasn't that impressive in the CL granted but from the games I've seen of him in the league he is a pretty good striker but a bit like Rashford in the sense he isn't an elite finisher. That said he is definitely a better striker than Martial and they are the same age, more of a goal threat and far better movement.
Not saying he's the ideal striker I would want but he's much better than Martial and his goal record shows that whereas Martial gets by on all his implied ability and potential without showing very much. Don't want to derail the thread anymore so I'll leave it at that.

Indeed. Even Martial wouldn't dare to claim that "Martial is better than Werner". It's a patently absurd claim.
Re Grealish, it seems to me that worrying about fitting both him and Fernandes into the same side becomes much less of an issue in Pochettino's oft-favoured 3-4-2-1 system...
It does make me wonder, how Fernandes was deemed 'not good enough' for us in the Summer, but suddenly is our number one target just a few months later.
Is this an admission that we got it wrong, or an indication that Fernandes has been signed for Poch..??
But its odd that some are questioning why we would be interested in signing Grealish now that we have Fernandes.

In respects to the Bruno deal, I think it was the case he would have been signed if we sold Pogba and now he has been injured etc, add to that most people at the club are now finally resigned to losing him, a replacement was needed.
Signing Bruno gives him 4 months to get used to the PL, signings Grealish (proven PL) we could be looking at a new creative duo next season if we sign him.
I wouldn't be all that surprised if we went after him and used him from the right, ala Bernardo Silva at City.

Grealish is an AM and LW. He's spot is taken by Rashford and Bruno. I agree we need more creativity in the squad but there are CMs and DMs that are creative aren't there? Grealish is an AM and LW but won't bench Rashford or Bruno. What we need is a creative CM or DM that can control games.

Its clear that you haven't watched Werner a lot if you call him much better than Martial. You really think that Werner or any other striker in the world would score a lot of golas in this team without Pogba? If the top clubs had a choice of Werner or Martial i’m pretty certain that 90 procent or more would choose Martial.

Exactly.. he is more in a model of Rashford and he’s got nothing on him. So I do wonder.. knowing that as a United fan we all know who the best finisher is. Why we would assume I guy who isn’t really a clinic finisher would serve better upfront instead of Martial. Who’s conversion rate is silly.

Because Martial isn't great or ever will be, even if Werner isn't clinical he is still a superior goalscorer to Martial, Martial's best league goal haul is equal to Werners worst at Leipzig (13) who has 2 20 goal seasons in the BL now. Martial has maybe a 1 in 4 record for us so let's not act us if he is some unerring goal machine, with the exception of the LVG seasons he is a myth of a footballer.
Sorry ot but its very possible Werner will be starting striker for Germany in Euro's and same time Martial will watch France games at home. It tells something. Martial is good footballer but not better than Werner.
I expect he'd be utilised in the "Son role", although he could also probably play through the middle as a conventional #9. Grealish and Fernandes would then be used in much the same way Spurs played Eriksen and Ali. Obviously, this is all hypothetical!

Would take Grealish in a heartbeat. Can play CM and CAM and could also fill in on left wing if need be. He takes games by the scruff of the neck and HATES losing. This time 2 years ago I hated him, but he has done a wonderful job maturing.
Whilst I woundn't draw any comparisons, in the last two couple of games I have watched of Leipzig, it is a bit difficult to miss the absolute sitters Werner has. Any player of ours would be slaughtered for the misses he's had in has last few competitive games. So I fully understand someone feeling the way Mainoldo does.
Remember when Klopp kept signing "attacking midfielders" like Wijnaldum.
We need a proper RW, not a CM/LW. I’d rather we go for Sancho than this Guy. I mean fork out 80 mill plus 200k/week wages for grealish would be madness. Good player but not what we need.

Big fan of Werner but I reckon Bundesliga to Prem is a bigger step up than folk realise. Martial in Bundesliga would be one of the most heralded players in the world
100%. We should already have an agreement in place. I imagine he will keep them from relegation then be happy to move on

I certainly don't disagree about the right conditions i.e. he needs Rashford to do all the pressing and running and taking the defenders away. I reckon Martial is a very good player but he needs to find form and needs to be able to create his own goals here and there. With Bruno joining us he should get an extra chance per game though
