We've had shit luck of injuries ever since the SAF era. I don't know why this even a debate that Grealish will play at least 40 games next season. Mata alone has played 37 games. Then when you add Lingard and Pereira play times to that.
I'm not saying I wouldn't sign him - but I can see why the club would be reluctant to spend 60m+ on a player that isn't a first choice.

While we could use him in the squad we would probably want a cheaper option.

There will always be plenty of reasons / excuses why Rashford is playing badly, i.e. missing Shaw, played out of positions, tactical change, played too many games, injuries...the list is endless from what I have seen on here.

He will be benched regardless of his underlying issue if we bring in more quality to improve the squad.

Do you reckon Jack is capable of benching him and I know there will be some people that would laugh at the mere suggestion of the idea but just interested to get people's views on it

If and only if Sancho is a no-go for now (and probably forever...nice work, Glazer family), then a move for Grealish makes some sense. Not because Jack is a suitable Plan B for Sancho but because he will cost of a massive transfer fee. But Jack will want to stake a claim as a regular starter and, as long as we have Bruno and Pogba -- and Rashford, Martial and Greenwood -- it's hard to see where we would slot in both Sancho and Grealish together in the future. Unless we go balls out and try to convert Grealish into a DM who carries the ball forward with great effect, but I don't see that being a shrewd move.

Can't we just fukking spend what Dortmund is asking for and end this talk about bringing in Grealish?

No doubt if Rashford shows the kind of form that he delivered post lockdown, however that's not to say Grealish will be an automatic starter by any means.

Well I am still believing we can pull off a minor miracle and sign both, however with the lack of outgoings right now that belief is down to very feint hopes right now

I understand. I just think Grealish is too good to pass up kinda player. We may squeezed him into other role ala Seedorf in that Milan formation.

I think Jack has the ability and belief to walk in here knowing he could replace anyone in our attack. If he was available at 40 mill he would be an absolute steal in my view. Just not sure we will stretch close to what Villa want for him

Personally I would say that Rashford at his absolute best is better, but the only time he's really been at that level was for those couple of months last season. Other than those couple of months I don't really see all that much between them.

Of course Rashford is only 22 (two years younger than Grealish) so 'should' continue to improve and be first choice in the bigger games, but I wouldn't exactly be surprised if Grealish ends up overtaking him for significant periods of time.

He's not worth the 80m that Villa leaked to the press and it's obvious we won't pay that. But if we can get him for a decent price I'd be a big fan of bringing him in.

Don’t know what he’s like but he strikes me as a person that would believe he could bench any one of our players.

I think Ole would stick with Rashford as his main man and when he’s back in any sort of form he’d be picked over Grealish. I think Grealish would be rotation for Bruno/Pogba.

He will also be cover for Pogba and allow us to change formation when needed to unlock a team. Furthermore, his ability to carry the ball as well being press resistant is why we need him.

He's not cover for Pogba as he doesn't play as deep and doesn't have the passing range for the role, we need a DLP much more than Grealish, someone who can play with Pogba and be his safety net, but who is good enough on the ball to be partnered by Fred or McTominay if Pogba is out.

I believe Jack would walk into our team & only improve training with better players.

Would certainly keep Rashford on his toes he’s been dire of late.

We need someone of quality to both cover the inevitable injuries to our front 3 and the Bruno role.

My nightmare scenario for this transfer window is that we sign this guy and nobody else. I don't get the hype, don't get the appeal. Sincerely hope we aren't interested in him.

If Sancho is a no go then I think we should go for him, he’s quality , you can never have too much of that

Definitely. Whichever attacking player arrives, Rashford should be the most vulnerable.

Rashford has been playing injured the last 10 or so games, having some like Jack to come in is what we need. It also saves us from having to run Rashford into the ground. Now Sancho would be a better option as he can play on the right but as things stand our owners wont pay so Jack will at least solve the first problem.

Yeah he helps with the providing cover for Bruno & Rashford however like you say it still doesn't solve the RW issue

Grealish captained Villa to their target of premier league survival and produced many quality moments in attack in a struggling team. Except Bruno, none of our front four could have managed that if they were in that position. His technical abilities, strong personality and leadership qualities mean he walks into our team. And the need for consistent performers in a gruelling season will mean he could be a regular starter, I see Rashford and Greenwood rotating more, provided Martial maintains his higher consistency levels. He’d also be cover for Fernandes at no. 10 of course.

I think we may be underestimating Grealish’s potential impact on the squad and our play, especially given the focus on the Sancho story. Grealish is worth paying the big money for and I urge the board to close this out quickly.

Rashford is still not 100% fit. If Ole continues playing him through pain and injury, he’s going to have many spells in the treatment room this season. By all accounts, that seems inevitable at this point. So by default, Grealish would play because Rashford will be injured.

Agree with this.. Ole talks about bringing in the right people and mentality to play for the club. Grealish showed strong character and his performance in a team that struggled.

He seems to be a likeable character among his team mates from his instagram page and other players.

Think he will be a good buy for the club.

Yeah I think he proved the strength of his character when he went on to score that winner against Brum after being attacked by that fan.

He first caught my attention when he bossed that FA Cup Semi against the scousers and has steadily grown since then.

You get the impression that he would relish the competition at Utd and honestly think it would bring out the best in him as well.

Grealish is a good player but isn't he too similar to Bruno? When I have watched him I have always imagined he would play in the same position. I really cannot see him excelling out on the wing as he comes inside too much.

To be fair doesn’t he play out on the left for Villa primarily, so he could rotate with rashford and Bruno and get loads of minutes. Providing we sell the other back ups.

Even if he was a clone of Bruno it wouldn't be something to worry about, we still need greater depth and quality in our squad, because it's rubbish.

For sure the depth needs to be addressed. However, surely when looking at signings RWF and a CB has to be improved first? The concern here is Utd get him but the key issues remain unsolved.

Plan B if we don't sign Sancho. Not because they play the same, just a signing. Aside from a few youth team players, it will be it I reckon......

Yeah I completely agree regarding RW, I think CB is less if a problem than attacking depth to be fair, but that’s a debate for another day. :D

True. It is just the recovery pace of the middle two CB's that is a real concern in my book. However, as you say, a discussion for another day.

Take a sec and compare him to what we got, like Martial, Rashford, Bruno, Greenwood. Where would he fit in? Yes, we have to rotate, but it's crazy to spend 60-80 mill at player who's not an instant imporval to the team. Spend half and get Tonali..
