Jérémy Doku

I think he’s a brilliant player to watch, one of the few players around who is worth watching for. Always tries to beat his man and is a wildcard.

Not sure he suits City that much and hopefully Pep doesn’t train it out of him, I can see him getting frustrated.

Very overrated player. Didin't see what the big deal was when people were hyping him up in the beginning of the season.

Top player.

Would instantly improve us.
He just isn't a top player though. Salah and De Bruyne are top players. I'm not sure Doku's even better than someone like Mitoma.

Who matches his acceleration though?
A decent amount of PL fullbacks. It may be exaggerated slightly but the general pace and athleticism in the PL is extremely high. I’ve seen some of MGs clips in La Liga and he’s burning guys for pace, and this is after being out for 18 months. Here he was a middling level of pace player in the PL.

Thats it theres very few defenders but I thought Gusto did realtively well with him yesterday, small agile guys usually do well in slowing up his end product.

Doku is ridiculously fast over the first 5-10 yards. I think quite a few matches him for top speed - Dalot would take him, but I'm talking about his ability to get past his first defender. Even Evra met his match in Lennon, but he kept Walcott in his pocket. It was just Lennon had that ridiculous acceleration from a standstill, and Doku is similar, if not as extreme perhaps. Not sure I can think of many that has that explosiveness - I think even Mbappe commented on him:
"In five years as a professional, I have never seen someone from a standing start demonstrate so much power."

Cheers - I haven't seen much of Gusto, but I hear that he's doing quite well. Let's hope that changes quickly.

I'd love to see some stats on this. What makes premier league fullbacks faster than bundesliga, serie A and la liga when everyone buys from each other?

According to Sky, this season the fastest EPL player is van de Ven. He was joint 9th in the Bundesliga last season. Szoboszlai is another case, 31st in the Bundesliga last season and now fourth in the EPL. They seem to become faster, though. Van de Ven had 35.97 km/h top speed in 22/23 and in 23/24, he is at 37.38 km/h. Szoboszlai is at 36.76 km/h to last season's 35.21 km/h. Maybe gravity is lesser on the British Isles.or they have more tailwind.

Been very poor since he came back from Injury.. Still better to watch than Grealish.

Was the only City player who was actually trying to do something. AWB handled him well though.

He did ok but still weird that Pep turned it into such a 1 vs 1 game, AWB was completely in his element in that situation

He was... Not good. Onana should have saved his goal but other than that Doku ruined the entire City system. If he wasn't so selfish and one dimensional he might be dangerous but Doku looks a bit like a worse Saint-Maximin to me.

He's a player I can't really work out if he's elite or not, I watched him in person a few months ago and he has incredible balance and agility, and a speed burst unlike many players in the world. And he sorta dances around the field in a way that is pleasing to watch. Physically has everything a winger needs.

But then also 90% of the time he does the same move. He collects the ball and stops it dead, then does a shimmy and from a standing start he tries to accelerate on the inside. It's both hard to stop but also very easy to predict.

He's the type of direct player City lack, given how we shut down the centre of the pitch I'm surprised Pep didn't bring him on earlier to attack from the wings.

Still don't see it, goal was incredibly lucky.

Every other attack died with him.

Well, if Mbappé is the today's Pelé for some, why cannot Doku be the today's Robben(yeah, the most cynical will say because he is right-footed)?

Saint Maxi is a good comparison, actually. I’d rather have had ASM than this Doku lad. Both a bit brainless but ASM at least had a few more tricks in his locker.

Didn't think he was great at all, he's got great pace and acceleration and seems a fighter and hard worker but he doesn't have "it" that pure skill to get past defenders if it's not by pace.

AWB handled him completely yesterday, that goal is 100% on Onana.

Doku was City’s lone menacing threat yesterday, but AWB handled him well. The goal was all on Onana.

There’s strangely been very little commentary on us shutting Haaland down completely, but that’s for another thread.

He's very good. Suits what City need better than Grealish who slows down the attack significantly to advance play. If they get a player of the profile of Doku on the other side it will pin the fullbacks back allowing space in the midfield.

I think to some degree City did have a poor window last season, felt like they signed more of the same but Jeremy does offer more direct play.

He changed the game last night, they started creating chances when he got subbed on… he did the same in their CL game against Madrid, also brought the KDB goal then.

A strange player who always has that glimmer of danger, whilst still being an utterly limited one move wonder.

Had a really good game tonight. He's one of the best dribblers I have ever seen, unstoppable at times.
