Izaguirre claims United interest

If SAF is determined to sell OShea and Wes then we'll need a rear flank man. I'd rather see us get a right back then a left back (we've already got Evra, Fabio and Evans there)

So is the real or just talk to get attention?

I dont think Fergie will be pleased to see his target talk about it to the media.

It looks to me like Fergie is planning on the twins fighting it out for the RB spot and Izaguirre would be a superior option to Evans at LB.

I have no problem with the twins potential. What I am worried about is that they are a bit injury prone. Can Izaguirre, Jones or Evans play as right back if needed?

Evans.. right footed, can play LB. Surely he can play RB as well if needed.

Pretty sure Jones could play anywhere in defence. Smalling did a good job near the end of the season at right back - really showed his on the ball quality and the height never hurts. We should be fine at right back

I dont know if this guy is any good, but he'd have to be amazing to stop Fabio progressing - or Fabio would have to continue with his injury problems. Either way we'd be sorted if Evra picks up an injury or cant improve his form

Maybe Fergie isn't planning on using Fabio predominantly as a LB.

maybe the player is seeking attention?

If we were interested he's probably blown his chance by flapping his chops to the media.

looking at the big picture we look like we are losing;

neville - right back
brown - right back/ centre back
o shea - a number of positions

with jones we are more than covered at CB

you could argue that with evans/fabio/rafael we have cover at left back

fabio and rafael will be our first choice right backs i imagine....

with their injury problems and with us looking like we are losing 3 players who played right back last season I think we could use a player who can cover at both left and right back

maybe izaguirre is that player but a better question is why the hell are we selling o shea

will he be happy to be a squad player? - does fergie think evra's drop in form is a sign of him in decline?

Had fergie felt that evra was in decline he would not have given him a new contract but would have cashed in whilst he was still likely to attract pretty big offers.

Not really. We'd be annoyed, but if we want to sign him it won't make us go away.

It makes sense, because if O'Shea and Brown leaves we're a little light on full backs, especially with the twins being injury prone. Thing is, If I'd bring another full back it may be one who can play right back, because Evra is usually fit for the left, so the right might be a bigger problem.

Easier to just keep O'Shea, really...

We could use a full back when O'Shea goes and he is supposed to be very good so I can see it happening. He would probably cost south of £10m as well.

Not sure what your point is?

My point is that considering the Da Silva twins injury track record I'd rather see us spend money on a right back then a left back (were we already have Evra and Evans there apart from Fabio)

Left back is not an area that needs strengthening.

Of course you're going to think so but truth is, you cannot play 50+ games a season mate so accept the fact that you are going to have competition sooner or later. It doesn't mean you will stop being a first-team player.

Didnt SAF say somenthing like “we made a bid, but the other club wasnt ready to sell“ back in Feburary? didnt he also say that United would re-open the talks in the summer?

Wasn't that for Young?

Stood out for me anytime i watched Celtic last season particularly in the Old Firm games, good strong pacy & gutsy looking player. I'd like to see him at Utd.

i've got a friend who has fairly close ties to celtic. apparently he's heard that izaquirre plays for celtic. he's normally fairly reliable with info such as this, he used to tell me that chris sutton played for them when chris sutton used to play for them.

Izaguirre's pretty decent - dynamic, plenty of zip going forward. His positioning's questionable though and he'd likely get found out against better opposition. A lot I suppose depends on whether Evra recovers some form next season, but Izaguirre would be a useful squad option and offer balance on the flank.

He looks really good.

United buying a Celtic midfielder highly recommended by me after seeing him about twice... what could possibly go wrong?

Kayal's a good all-rounder. Strong, competitive and decent at circulating possession. Not good enough for United but would hold his own comfortably in the Premiership.

we are crazy to let o'shea go

Crazy?... really?

One summer we let the following go.

But yeah, SAF would be as mad as a hatter to let JOS go. :wenger:

We didnt actually let any go. Kanchelskis and Ince both engineered their own moves and Hughes left because of Andy Cole and no promise of 1st team football

That's an interesting interpretation but from what has been said since, I think Ferguson was getting a bit sick of Ince and a move was always on the cards, while he had to find room for the youngsters coming through, hence the lack of new arrivals.

He said in his autobiography that no player was available who would have strengthened the squad; he even considered Darren Anderton before giving the right midfield berth to Beckham.

There was no value in the market, basically
