Ivan Rakitic

Rakitic is not coming to England, no way his family and wife will want to come to Manchester IMHO. They are going back to Seville after his contract at Barcelona expires and he'll retire there.

I always think he looks a bit strange in the Barca side. He's just not very fast. However he can score a couple of goals and keeps things ticking like a Maestro. I'm not really sure where his best position is if it's in an advanced role more in the center of the pitch. Most balls go through Messi these days anyway, mostly because he's just so good that there's no need for anyone in that team to pass the ball well between each other.

Whenever I see him play for Barca it makes me happy because they don't look ominously brilliant anymore.

Agreed. I recall a debate with a poster earlier in the season who thought he was better than Pogba and Gundogan. No chance for me.

Good player but I would be happier if we just gave Pereira a chance next season instead... think he's ready to make the step up.

Bloody good one-liner post mate. We need to give this kid a chance. He's had a good season at Granada and has shown a lot of promise. I read somewhere that Jose wanted to end his loan and bring him back early, totally hope this is the case.

He's still a great midfielder. I don't really see any midfielder at all enjoying the crap role he plays for Barcelona and I'm pretty sure he'd shine playing for a team like City coached by Guardiola.
Thing is.. why would Barcleona sell him with the few midfield options they already have? Well with them you never know but still..

It's amazing that Sky have 5 people talkiing about Rakitic in their studio and not one of them realized that Pep didn't buy him for Barca. :wenger:

Unlike many in here I'm not quick to drool over players just because they've played for Real or Barca, I actually need to see if there is merit to a player hype and Rakitic has never impressed me and is just another decent to good player who happens to be playing for Barca so his stocks predictably increased.

Of course many people wouldn't know too much about him on these boards but happened to have heard he plays for Barca and will by default rate him ridiculously high and think he's some kind of world beater.

Don't like this guy at all. He's a neat, tidy technical player, but he I get the impression he would struggle in the EPL as the game would pass him by.

There's also no way Jose would play a guy like him as the deepest midfielder. He wants defensive solidity first and foremost, and while Rakitic may have the passing ability of Carrick, he's very lightweight and would get bullied like Blind did when he played there.

We wont be interested,

For one obvious glaring reason, hes too small and isnt exactly stocky, two bit NO NOs on Joses check list.

Is he? Maybe its just that he's playing in La Liga but he always seems fairly robust to me, albeit in a wiry sort of way.

We don't need a Carrick type. Not every top team has a 'Carrick type' and its not a necessity for a team to be successful.

Rakitic would add alot of quality to our team and he would work in a midfield 3 along with Herrera and Pogba. If he is available we need to sign him.
Where do you get this from? What are the extra attributes that his signing would add to a midfield 3 with Pogba and Herrera?
I think a 3rd midfielder with them would need to be defensively disciplined and at least have some passing skills as well. Rakitic as I'm aware never played a deep role at Barca, I think his attributes are too similar to Herrera to shine albeit plays at a level or two higher.
That putting 3 midfielders together and stating they would complement each other without any reasoning is a bit laughable TBH. But I should be prepared to read more of the like as it is transfer season I guess...

He was playing level or two higher, but not this season. Barca fans are increasingly annoyed by his form since it took a nosedive in the last months. He's 29 and has huge mileage...he worked his socks off his entire career, especially in Barca. His engine is one of his biggest strengths and he is starting to show signs of slowing down. He was class but I do not want him here now, by the time he adjusts to PL he'll be 30 and we could have another Schweinsteiger situation happening...more expensive this time around. City can have him for all I care.

He was top class at Sevilla and definitely seemed good enough for the top clubs, however he did play slightly further forward and there was more emphasis on the ball going through him. Him and Bacca were excellent together.

He's done well at Barca at times IMO. It's a tough ask for the role he plays, but he's done it quite well without reaching his Seville form.

No we shouldn't.. We need a Carrick type and that he is not..

So simply because we need a defensive midfielder that means we shouldn't buy any other midfielders. Or replace the outgoing Schneiderlin or Schweinsteiger? Good thinking.

Mate buying a 29 years old Barca reject will never be a good idea.. Mou will buy someone to mould..

True. Guess Ibra wasn't a Barca reject. Look how that worked out at 35.
Didn't know we signed Ibra from Barca?
Ibra never made it at Barca and had something to prove to himself after staying far to long in a poor league.. If Barca want to keep Rakitic he will renew if not they will let him bugger off and he will be sad and misserable for the rest of his career (Hopefully at City)..
Herrera is a better player atm and younger.. Mou will buy big names who want to come or young to mould, not a Barca reject..

Ivan Rakitic is determined to quit Barcelona this month, it has been revealed.

The midfielder was linked with a move to Manchester City on Sunday, which was quickly shot down by Barca chiefs.

However, Don Balon says Rakitic has made it clear to his agents he wants to leave.

The midfielder feels insulted by coach Luis Enrique and club directors as he's found himself sidelined and ignored over new contract talks.

Rakitic has cited how Aleix Vidal has fallen off the map over the past year and has made it clear to his reps he doesn't want the same to befall him.

City remain keen, where the Croatian would arrive as Fabian Delph is sold this month.

I dont know if don balon favour real or barca but looks like this report hints he will leave now or in the summer.

Anybody else noticed how much he looks like Tom Cleverley? Photoshop that hair on him and they are practically twins.

I always thought he was pretty good but gets stick for not being Xavi/Iniesta.
