A new thread, because why not?
Having sold or released more than half the squad, while still being tight with incoming transfers, ten Hag has been installed as the new manager. The team finished 6th in the league and got knocked out at the QF stage of the CL having navigated the tie against Atletico. Ten Hag will use the 6 European matches as a chance to look at promising youngsters and synchronising the style of play between the first team and the U23s. The sole focus is on the league and developing a team for the long term. There are a few weeks until the transfer window closes, but there won't be any super stars arriving, there is now an actual cultural reset and wage management is imperative. Many players have left as they knew they would not feature prominently, some were told they had no future at the club, and others have been released. The ones that have been shed from the squad are: Mata, Matic, Jones, Tuanzebe, Maguire, Bailly, AWB, Shaw, Telles, Pogba, Lingard, Martial, van de Beek, Cavani, Ronaldo, and Henderson. The team for the opening day of the season:
----------------------de Gea
Dalot-----Lindelof-----Varane----Williams
----------------------new DM
-------------Bruno-----------Mejbri
Elanga------------------------------------Sancho
--------------------new Striker
Subs: Heaton, Mengi, Laird, Garner, Diallo, Rashford, McTominay.
How does that feel to you?
---------------------de Gea
Timber-----Varane-----Gvardiol----Shaw
----------------------Tchouameni
-------------Bruno-----------Mejbri
Antony------------------------------------Sancho
--------------------Martial
Subs: Köhn, Mengi, Laird, Garner, Diallo, Rashford, Fred, Sesko, Elanga, Maguire
Philipp Köhn on the bench if ten Hag wants to opt for a ball playing keeper, which I believe he'll want to go with eventually.
Martial I still have hope for under a coach like ten Hag, and Benjamin Sesko as the understudy and long-term option for the central striker role. He looks a very interesting prospect.
And if we can achieve something resembling the above and the team can finish top 4. Then I believe we'll be in a fantastic position come the summer window for the 2023/24 season.
No way we are selling/letting go 16 players in the summer, we are not bankrupt.
I would like to see something like this(realistic opinion):
----------------------de Gea
Dalot-----Maguire-----Varane----Shaw
----------------------new DM
-------------Bruno-----------new CM
new RM------------------------------------Sancho
--------------------Ronaldo
Subs: Henderson, Lindelof, Elanga, Rashford, Martial, Telles, AWB, new ST, MCT, VDB, Bailly, Williams, Fred
Cavani, Pogba, Lingard, Mata, Matic and Jones can leave
Will be excited only if ETH is the manager and atleast 4 new first team players are in the side. My team
Sancho New St New RW
Fred Bruno
New DM
Telles Varane Lindelof New RB
DDG
DeGea
Cash Varane Maguire Telles
Tchouameni Neves
Fernandes
Sancho Osimhen Rashford
Again Rashford is the problem but I don’t see how we reinforce other areas without keeping him on, could go for Nkunku instead but then we are in the realms of 5 new players when 4 is probably unrealistic.
Osimhen would cost a lot yeah, but he’s a proper player. That's quite ambitious, but I like it. Although I'm not sure Martial has the football brain for it. He's immensely talented, but does he see space, not least for others? I don't think we'll ever see him as a capable lone #9. Tchouameni and Gvardiol are on the verge of world class signings, would likely cost the moon and with better positioned clubs likely keen, a long shot. But with 5 subs next season, it is such a great opportunity to rejuvenate our squad and see what these young players are made of - which of course is a mutually beneficial situation with an educator perfectionist coach.
Glad to see some positive responses here!
It's not about being bankrupt, it´s about the opportunity to make a huge shift for the long-term, reigning in the unmerited wages, and building a healthy culture.
But we've got quite a few players who can form a base for a functional team going forward. Needing maybe 3-4 signings in the summer, we can afford to trim the squad a bit.
What does your bench look like?
Osimhen is likely going to cost more than Haaland's release clause (obviously less factoring in wages and agent fees), so a tall order. I do like him very much though. As with Gorky, what does your bench look like? Which youngsters do you want to see at the club given chances from the bench and, potentially, the Europa?
I don't care who the next manager will be, I just want:
- no Rashford, Maguire or any other English overrated trash like Rice
- no AWB or Shaw
- rb - varane - cb - telles
- dm
- rw - bruno/new 8 - fred - sancho
- ronnie/st
So, realistically, we need:
- new rb, cb, dm, cm, st
I know there will be outburst with Bruno, but I don't give a feck. We need someone to replace him in at least 50% of games, especially in those elite ones where he magically turns into cleverley.
Reinvigorated.
We will have either Pochettino or Ten Hag and both are an enormous upgrade on Ole and Rangnick.
All a good manager needs is a proper pre-season.
How on earth is Pochettino an upgrade on Ole??
I really don't get this mindset at all.
I would be very disappointed if we go from Ole to Pochettino, it would be a huge step down, getting a Spurs cast off, who wasn't and isn't good enough for them.
I struggle to take your post seriously.
Ole was a failed Cardiff manager.
Pochettino massively improved Espanyol, Southampton and Spurs with all his teams playing exciting, high pressing football.
It seems like it's likely to be Ten Hag anyway unless he turns us down, but you're utterly delusional if you don't think Pochettino is a massive upgrade on Ole.

Ole was a successful league title winning manager, why not mention that??
He has a vastly superior C.V. than Poch.
He did very well in charge of us, but for one kick would have had a European trophy, and he delivered soo many amazing victories, with City away and PSG away at the very top of them, what the heck has Poch ever done??
Sorry, but Poch really isn't in Ole's league, or on his level.
