A new thread, because why not?

Having sold or released more than half the squad, while still being tight with incoming transfers, ten Hag has been installed as the new manager. The team finished 6th in the league and got knocked out at the QF stage of the CL having navigated the tie against Atletico. Ten Hag will use the 6 European matches as a chance to look at promising youngsters and synchronising the style of play between the first team and the U23s. The sole focus is on the league and developing a team for the long term. There are a few weeks until the transfer window closes, but there won't be any super stars arriving, there is now an actual cultural reset and wage management is imperative. Many players have left as they knew they would not feature prominently, some were told they had no future at the club, and others have been released. The ones that have been shed from the squad are: Mata, Matic, Jones, Tuanzebe, Maguire, Bailly, AWB, Shaw, Telles, Pogba, Lingard, Martial, van de Beek, Cavani, Ronaldo, and Henderson. The team for the opening day of the season:

----------------------de Gea
Dalot-----Lindelof-----Varane----Williams
----------------------new DM
-------------Bruno-----------Mejbri
Elanga------------------------------------Sancho
--------------------new Striker

Subs: Heaton, Mengi, Laird, Garner, Diallo, Rashford, McTominay.

How does that feel to you?

Despondent as I see captain Harry oaf his way out the tunnel at Old Trafford. We battle to a 1-1 against newly promoted Fulham. Bruno scores and has 14% passing success. There is already calls for Lampard to be sacked.

If we line up like that first game of the season, I'm checking out until 2023/24 season.

The new manager breaks everyone's hearts by telling us Maguire is the future of the club. The inevitable shit-show carries on. Two seasons later he's sacked.

You're not getting with the programme here, Maguire has been sold having been told he'd be fourth choice as the new manager prefers to play a high line. With the transfer window still open, we're looking at a young centre back and a first XI right sided forward.

I guess you all just want your Martials, Matas and Maguires.

I don't think there are any short-term fixes. But the quicker route to becoming a relevant team is to build a new team rather than patch up the mess we've got now.

Jesus man, look at that bench...

Depends on who the manager is and whether they finally bought at least the CDM, mobile ST, and attacking RB so badly needed, yes clearly we still need a controlling CM and left footed RW too but those three would at least be a start.

I don't feel positively giddy, to be honest.

But then again, if "new DM" and "new striker" are - say - Frank Rijkaard and Marco van Basten reincarnated, we might avoid relegation (which has to be seen as a positive).

I’d wonder why we have deliberately left ourselves with our more mediocre full backs.

You’d be lucky if that team finishes in the top 10. Would be a miracle if it did.

I like elanga but standards have seriously dropped if he is a first 11 player next season, he is not even as good as januzaj was in his first season with United or rahsford's

Fair to say it's conclusive. I deliberately didn't sprinkle some tasty new players into the first XI and on the bench. This would be worst case scenario if those who have consistently failed / don't want to be here / do not fit into a progressive style of play are discarded whilst being stingy with incomings.

It seems there is a pretty wide consensus on wanting loads of players out of the club, but I assume most who feel that way are somehow imagining that the club would just go and buy 7 brand new starters in one go. Or at the very least, people are becoming apathetic with most of the players but not willing to compromise on chasing immediate success.

Honestly, I painted this as rough as possible, but I'm pretty desperate to see this team taken apart in the summer and for us to go with a smaller squad next season weeding out all the mercenaries, the passengers and the liabilities.

We absolutely need a restart.

We're not in the CL next season and the other European competitions mean nothing. It's the perfect opportunity to build a healthy culture for the first time since in at least a decade.

Loads of people keep banging on about a massive clear out. Well, the reality is that if that's what a new manager (and Murtough et al) think is required for long-term success, it will cost in the short-term (which I'm more than fine with, it's logical). Seems quite a lot think it's just 10 out 10 in.

Hopeful that this season write-off of a process of finding a new manager was the right thing to do and that the man in charge has the talent, and backing, to put together a United side that is capable of showing things are changing for the better, be that with a combination of current players and his own purchases.

That makes me feel like something unlikely Ten Hag to do :) But other than that - patient and hopeful

---------------------de Gea
Timber-----Varane-----Gvardiol----Shaw
----------------------Tchouameni
-------------Bruno-----------Mejbri
Antony------------------------------------Sancho
--------------------Martial

Subs: Köhn, Mengi, Laird, Garner, Diallo, Rashford, Fred, Sesko, Elanga, Maguire

Philipp Köhn on the bench if ten Hag wants to opt for a ball playing keeper, which I believe he'll want to go with eventually.

Martial I still have hope for under a coach like ten Hag, and Benjamin Sesko as the understudy and long-term option for the central striker role. He looks a very interesting prospect.

And if we can achieve something resembling the above and the team can finish top 4. Then I believe we'll be in a fantastic position come the summer window for the 2023/24 season.

No way we are selling/letting go 16 players in the summer, we are not bankrupt.

I would like to see something like this(realistic opinion):

----------------------de Gea
Dalot-----Maguire-----Varane----Shaw
----------------------new DM
-------------Bruno-----------new CM
new RM------------------------------------Sancho
--------------------Ronaldo

Subs: Henderson, Lindelof, Elanga, Rashford, Martial, Telles, AWB, new ST, MCT, VDB, Bailly, Williams, Fred

Cavani, Pogba, Lingard, Mata, Matic and Jones can leave
