You make some interesting statements...:wenger:

Can't find a YouTube version of it, but 'Still In Love With You' by Thin Lizzy, as recorded on 'Live and Dangerous' takes some beating.

From all the clips (video and audio) and all of the things I've heard I would have to say the Doors are my dream live act (bet that shocked you all eh?), well up until Jim got bored of people coming to see him do something unusual but even then he still had the ultimate stage presence IMO. You really can't take your eyes off him, the way he could command an audience was startling, he could rile them up and them calm them back down with just a few words and the way he clearly loved the music and got totally caught up in the music by improvising poetry as it came to him. There's been nobody like him since.

Apparently it was the same when he walked into a room, people were just drawn to him and he had an aura which captivated everybody. It's been said by a lot of people that women just fell in love with him after only spending 5 minutes with him (see Patricia Kenneally who's made a living off sleeping with him once). Even Andy Warhol was obsessed with him and begged him to let him watch Jim feck Nico out of Velvet Underground (Jim told him to beg like a dog then told him to get out haha)

But all the band members were amazing live performers, John's drumming is the best I've heard in terms of creating an atmosphere and being able to follow Jim's improvs. To be fair, all of them improvised greatly in every live show and Light My Fire has never been played exactly the same way. They were really really talented musicians which is so often overlooked because of Jim - who was the Dionysus.

Sorry, I really should stop myself from talking about the Doors as I get carried away.

I also love watching clips of Hendrix live, that guy had fecking soul. Here's a live clip that I love from Janis Joplin too which I think some of you will enjoy:

Fantastic version of Summertime is that. Must say Lizard, you've made me listen to quite a bit of music that I didn't think I would like but have turned out to really enjoy it, so thanks:D

Good paragraph on the Doors too, managed to see a couple of the parts of the Feast of Friends you recommended on YouTube, and it's really good. Whetting my appetite nicely for the upcoming documentary.

I'm off to Paris in two weeks time, and always pay a visit to Pere Lachaise cemetary to pay my respects to Jim Morrison (along with Oscar Wilde and Edith Piaf).

Each time I've visited his grave there has been the same cat hanging around...part of me is thinking it is his 'spirit', but the rational explanation is that he is a smart feline and knows that lots of people come to this grave and so he gets fed!;)

I'm going there quite soon on a romantic getaway with the missus, I've already warned her that I'm going to see Jim's grave and leave him some flowers and that she's also coming with me to see the apartment he lived in. I hope I don't cry like a little girl :(

We're going to LA too so I'm going to drag her round loads of places that are significant in Doors history :D

I've got a Stella in one hand, a cigarette in the other and Jimi Hendrix live at Woodstock blasting out of my speakers.

Rock. The. feck. On.

Ive a stella in one hand, a spliff in the other and Band of Gypsies is filling the room.

Grooving. The. feck. On.

That guitar solo! And pretty much everything about it, even the lighting effects. It's a wish i was there moment.

All the best music is from the 60s man, thank God for LSD ;)

Johnny Depp is definitely narrating the documentary, it's been announced. He doesn't have anything to do with the Doors so it's a bit strange but at the same time, having someone as big as Depp to narrate will gather even more interest. I've never been so excited about a film in my life, seeing all this footage - including some unseen - in HD is going to be incredible

Here's the trailer for anyone who's interested:

Love the Miami bit with that girl who says "people were under the influence of drugs" - no shit it was a rock concert in the 60s you stupid bitch.

Whens that out LK?

Don't know, it's just aired at Sundance and is at the Berlin Film Festival currently but I don't know if they have a distributor for it yet although there is interest. It will probably appear at a few arthouse type cinemas and then a blu-ray release sometime in the future

Going to be a while until we get to see it I reckon :(
