Is there an "Igalho" we can sign? (no we're not signing Igalho and your opinion on him is irrelevant)

it's time for L. Damiao to finally come to EPL. it shouldn't be hard to get him from Japan and their league ends in november.

Why would anyone use Ighalo as a good example hahaha. He barely played and obviously didn't had the quality to make it here.

No, he wasn't. He did nothing in the league, no goals or assists and was only getting garbage time at the end of games.

He was only useful in a couple of games in the EL and the FA Cup and had an ok cameo against City before the PL stopped which made people overrate his abilities and level.
When I say he was a contributor to us getting top 4 I don’t mean his performances in the league which were rare. It was the fact he gave us an option to play him in the Europa league and rest the likes of Martial for the league. He played nearly all of the Europa league games which was key in our team being rotated and fresh for the league. Without him, our players would have been screwed playing every game when we were so reliant on Rashford, Martial and Greenwood.

He played 5 games and scored 2 goals, hardly a massive contribution.

For this season at least, he would definitely start. I would have him over modern day Ronaldo, and while I would play Martial over him Martial can't seem to stay fit.
He would probably get games here, Ronnie is setting the bar low and Martial is rarely fit.
Yeah he might start and get a lot of games for 6 months. Then what? Are we not going to get anyone better? At some point he will be a bench player and he will be moody and disruptive - again

Absolute nonsense.

When have these clubs ever made those types of signings?

Also in what world are we getting a PL proven striker, in January, for 50m?
City:
Bony
Santa Cruz

Chelsea:
Demba Ba
Victor Moses
Loic Remy

Chelsea more than City. To be fair I named City because I remember Bony clearly.

That austrian lad seems to be doing pretty ok for himself in Serie A, although we won't get him cheap this time.

If there was it'd probably be someone in the Dutch league Erik's known for years but few outwith have heard of. Scored quite a few over the years yet not quite good enough to be signed by one of the really big boys. Joining United would be all his Christmases coming at once so he'd jump at the chance even if it was just for 6 months.

Can't see it happening though. Erik would be pushing for a real signing rather than a stop gap I'd imagine.

Moussa Dembele from Lyon.
Marcus Thuram from Gladbach.
Ivan Toney

But Ronaldo should leave if we sign a striker

Is Dembele still running out his contract or has he re-upped? That's a good shout for a cheap and effective option.

Yeah whats up with tha Dembele guy, heard a lot of good things about him during the summer.

Wouldn't be mad at Thuram or Dembele. We'd be unlikely to lose loads of money on them so long as we don't offer them silly wages and a long contract. Go with silly wages, short contract or sensible wages, long contract. There's definitely a possibility with them that they'd do well and stay for quite a long time.

Yeah. If we want to keep working off that Spurs shopping list from about 10 years ago.

Eriksen
Damiao

Where's Soldado these days?

Indeed, he ll be free this summer. Think he can be a good backup option but not the one leading your line. To be honest, if we buy a center forward and Martial leaves, I d take him as second striker.

But if you have him and Martial as 9 in your team, I don t think it will be enough as Dembele will play far more matches than crying Martial

Ighalo must be one of our worst value for money signings ever. Around £15m by reports, for next to nothing on the pitch.

For me there's not much point in that profile of signing. By profile I mean somebody shite just to fill a pair of boots.

Martial's fitness probably cannot be worse in the second half of the season. We still ultimately have Ronaldo, he's not worse than most you're going to get on a short term loan, unless something unexpected comes up. Rashford.

Do we not have any promising strikers or forwards in our youth teams? Either that or a potential prospect for a cheap price (i.e. players clubs like Dortmund buy) would be fine. Cheap enough so that it's not a huge burden if they fail, and someone who can be sold off as they are young. Similar to Dan James.

If only there was some option like the Henrik Larsson signing..wasnt that in 2006?

He was a good squad player from when he first joined up until the Covid lockdown. So only about two months, but at that point it looked like a good loan.

Struggled badly after the lockdown though and never got going again. I choose to remember him fondly for his early performances.
Scored a quite brilliant goal at LASK to be fair.

It's crazy to me what some of you, and football fans in general, think a striker does.

Some of the low quality names thrown here like Deeny and Chicharito would make Ronaldo look like prime Ronaldo of 96.

Having someone with some technical ability and someone that can run around is not enough. If that's all there was to it Rashford would be a good striker. What we truly need is a high quality elite player else you just have another Igahlo like situation.

Was Igalho even that bad considering how little he played?

His goal to minutes ratio was 1 every 149 which is not terrible. He played very little and I doubt Ole had much of a plan beyond "fecking shoot"

What's more, United has Martial, Rashford and Greenwood in form at that time so Ole was reluctant to give him much game time.

Yeah I think people are being super harsh on Ighalo, we didn’t expect much and got him for free but he popped up with a few goals and offered some rest for our main men

There probably is, yeah. Ighalo wasn't anywhere near the best available Ighalo style option at the time.

Is it really necessary, though?
