Is The Title Race Over If Lose Against Arsenal?

I am more worried that the title race will be over if we beat the arse, and then somehow climb to first place in the table by xmas

I wouldn't view a home draw positively, even against Arsenal. I would rather play you at home than Liverpool away.

It would give them a 9 point lead over us or looked at another way we would need 10 points to get back on top. Very difficult if not impossible given the psychological boost they would get from re-asserting their authority over us. The self satisfied Wenger would be smugness personified. However, as I said I think we can win or at the very least stop them from winning. To say it's a vital game is maybe an understatement.
GO FOR IT UNITED !

I understand the 9 point issue, but with the forms of both teams i'd say we're less vulnerable. We haven't lost too many games this season and are already looking much stronger. If we can keep this form going even after being defeated i'd say we'd still have a good shot at the title.

Arsenal will have another slump IMO. And i still don't think they can handle the CL as well as they think they can. So that's going to give us a little advantage as well.

I do agree with you however, that to say it's a vital game is maybe an understatement.

:D

I think we all deep down believe we need to beat them to even the championship race up and give ourselves a chance. A United win could make our season and go some way to breaking theirs.
It is a bit do or die...and like the Liverpool game, something tells me it won't be pretty but we'll do it.

Its as vital a game as any other. There can be a nine point difference any saturday if they win and we lose. They have lost and we havn't recently and the odds should be on ourselves this week on this record. There seems to be an assumption that Arse are having a blip. I don't agree. They were lucky in several matches early on, there defence has not looked good all season and it came as no surprise when the luck deserted them and resilts matched it. if Henry is not on form they struggle!

I read that "expert"-Marsh on the the Sky Sports Web beleived it would be a showdown narrowed down to a battle between two men, concerning last week's match between Liverpool and Manchester United. He believed it would be a striker's contest between Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Michael Owen. I found that remark a tad too light, and the match proved me right. As it rolled out, it was a contest between the defensive structures of both teams, with us hitting big time. And the day's unlikely hero being our young Forlan.

So, whom will be the key players on both sides, in our match against Arsenal? Whom will most likely be our aces, and whom will be the weak links in the chain? Whom will (in either side), for better or worse, decide this battle?

I don't believe Arse's defence is as good as L/pools. The scousers came unstuck when their long ball game couldn't get anywhere and eventually they conceded. It seemed obvious to me in the first half that the match was different to the previous 4. Arse won't provide the same problem and will be more like Newcastle. Whatever route we have to take I like the hunger and toughness that we're showing and I reckon it should show through. 9 pts in Dec. would not be good enough for a team with an unsteady defence like Arse's.

If we can keep this form going I'd say that the quadruple is a definite possibility

;)

Lets take the first 10 matches of the season. If a team is more than 6 pts ahead then take a vote of the football writers and if they think Arse or L/pool are 'the best team in Europe' we'll call it off then and give whoever the trophy. We can spend the rest of the season concentrating on Europe and internationals. No injuries or suspensions and players wont get 'tired'.

feckin 'ell! 6/9 pts. is not enough on Dec. 1st.and never has been.

Is the title race over if we lose to Arsenal?
NO.

But of course if that happens it will be extremely difficult to get back.

First we need Arsenal to have a blip themselves. If they don't (just like last seaon), then we won't be able to catch them up no matter how we do later.

Then, we need to perform extremely well ourselves. Getting 2 good wins in a row don't make us invincible in the remaining matches of the season. There are still plenty of difficult matches coming.

So, let's hope we have a good match on coming weekend and beat the gooners!
