He is, like many professional sportsmen, a complete man-child and it's not all his fault. How the hell can he have a properly developed sense of self, reality, justice or perspective?
That's one thing some people don't get, if some grew up in the same circumstances, they could/would be as bad if not worse. Neymar is a brat on the field, I honestly never really liked his attitude, but he's a decent guy off it from what others who have dealt with him say, and he seems to stay out of trouble. He's also the longest-lasting Brazilian sensation we've had in forever. Most burn out from partying too much.
There are lots of players that grow up in poor areas; he is a bell-end.

Yeah, Rivaldo, Marcelo, and Roberto Carlos weren't Brazilian sensations the way I'm talking about. They didn't have tremendous, worldwide hype when they were 16-17, which is going to affect your personality and the way you grow up, same can be said of your other examples. You're comparing apples and oranges, only people that come close recently to Brazilian sensation in the sense I meant are R9, R10, and Robinho; and Neymar's been far more professional than they have been in their careers. That was actually a clean penalty. Even in the angle that's circling the net you can see the opposing player's ankle twist after coming into contact. He swipes away at his planted foot. Luckily there's not much force behind it so the foot just kinda bounces off Neymar. Otherwise both footballers risk injury there. He does probably get grazed with studs a bit, which is usually painful.

I'm saying the odds would have been very much against us to handle it any better if we grew up with the attention/fame he did.
It's easy to judge someone, but if you haven't been through the same circumstances, like insane stardom and adoration before you're even an adult and fully developed mentally or as a person, it's all fine calling them names, they're public figures, and Neymar definitely is a petulant brat, but how would we have turned out? I'm saying Neymar's done pretty damn well given his circumstances, or if we compare him to other players who have gone through a similar situation.

I mean, the slow-mo one above clearly shows the defenders foot bouncing off of Neymar. It's a kick, and not a light one at that. There's no phyics on Planet Earth that let you retract your leg like that unless you hit something. Even the defenders reaction afterwards looks like an apologetic raise of hand.

The right angle seems pretty clear to me. Of course Neymar exagerates but at this point players are just programmed to do that. The contact exists.
Preseason is there to sharpen your skills and gear up for the new season. Today Neymar learnt that he needs to work better on his diving skills. This was too obvious.

Yeah, I think if this was another player most people wouldn't even care, because it's a friendly and who cares, but with Neymar it's an opportunity for people to give him grief and have a debate over it.
Even that second angle, I guess there's a very slight contact, his foot barely seems to get touched, and he's definitely made a meal of it but Ney's had some pretty serious injuries to his ankles, so I could see why he would dive or enhance the contact. Players don't always dive just to dive, they're also trying to protect their body and legs from being planted on the ground too much during a contact and avoid serious injuries.

This is just a dumb post - if you can't discuss the antics of a footballer on a football forum due to ifs and buts then what's the point of the forum?
No one said you can't discuss it, but I think it's even dumber to ignore why someone behaves the way they do, it is much easier to put labels on them though and generalize them as a person for what we see them do in a competitive sports. I find that much dumber.

Ronaldo was famously unprofessional- he was the ultimate party animal. Some players at Barca at the time stated that he used to be constantly turning up to training half cut and after zero sleep cos he was out clubbing until 6am. It may well have been the case that his injuries were caused by or exacerbated by his lifestyle.
I could well be mistaken but there seemed to be much less hype about Kaka when he was picked up quite cheap by Milan at around age 20 than there was around Robinho when he moved to Real at roughly the same age- there's no denying that Kaka turned out a hell of a lot better than Robinho did but a 16 year old Robinho definitely had more hype surrounding him than a 16 year old Kaka did.

Yeah, Ronaldo is famous for throwing up great parties, but that's part of who he is in a positive way. He was Mr Sunshine and his positive attitude was contagious.
Up until his knee problems he was fit as a fiddle and, as you mention, he did show up for training. He wasn't jetting off to sister birthdays, extending his holidays, etc.
By his own account, was only ever late for training twice in his career. He hated training, particularly Cuper's at Inter, but not liking it doesn't make you unprofessional either if you get on with it. Not the ultimate professional, sure, but miles ahead of Neymar.
Re: Kaká, I was living in Brazil at the time and distinctly remember reporting to the caf on him and Robinho. I actually said at the time Kaká was distinctly better (not just more developed) and it was a shame Diego Ribas was such a shortarse because he would turn out a better footballer and pro than Robinho.
