Who may very well win the Serie A. Lukaku has not succeeded at Manchester United for sure. But someone who is leading the line for Belgium and Inter is not a cack player when used properly. I felt that Jose wanted a Drogba but got the wrong player because they look the same in size.
As for Rashford, he needs to play like this for a long time. I think he is not going to get the time and space against top defenders and he tries to take on too much by himself.
 
MIssing goals from midfield analysis

Adjusted to classify James and Lingard as forwards, not midfielders.

After game #22 last season, the premier league top scorers were Forwards: Lukaku 8, Martial 8, Rashford 7, Lingard 7 and Alexis 1 - total 31. Midfielders : Pogba 7, Mata 2, Ander 2, Matic 1. (Pogba went on to be top scorer, IIRC, though he was penalty taker). Total goals scored = 45

So the front line contributed 31 = 69% and midfield 12 = 27% (only 2 goals game from defenders, one each to Smalling and Shaw = 4%).

This year, the numbers are Rashford 13 (main penalty taker), Martial 8, Greenwood 4 and James 3, totalling 28. M/f , McTominay 3 and Pereira 1 = 4. The defence has contributed 2 again, Williams and Lindelof.

Total goals scored = 34.

So the forwards have scored 82%, the midfield 12% and the defence 6%

Not only are we missing goals from M/F, in 2017-18, the defence contributed 10 all season (albeit we had former wingers at fullback, who were high quality finishers relative to AWB and Shaw), but that has dropped off a cliff.

We have scored 11 goals less than at the same point last year, with the deficit coming from the forwards (-3) and the midfield (-8, Pogba was the pen taker, but I haven't recorded how many pens he scored).

Adding in the missing goals would probably put us in the top 4.

Lingard plays as #10 and sometimes as RHS winger. Same position as Mata, what do you think?

That's the difficulty - instinctively I class James as an out and out winger, Mata as a 10, who often plays out of position on the right and Lingard is neither a winger nor a 10 in the classic sense.

But I think the main stats point is that we are missing goals badly from Pogba (-8) and Lingard (-4) - NB: I made an error in stating he had 7 in earlier posts. 12 goals is a lot and M3 (Martial, Mason, Marcus) have done well in netting 25, v Martial, Rashford and Lukaku contributing 23 at the same stage of last season. Add James's 3 v Alexis's 1 as wingers and the midfield deficit is even clearer

Wow that’s some underrating isn’t it! Surely anyone could see Rashfords potential ? Now he and Martial are maturing into a lethal partnership.
 
Read the first page and winced. @crossy1686 laid into em though.

I still remember the Rashford insults being used on here, good to see Ole and Rashford working hard on his game, his build up and passing is what impresses me the most, that part of his game has come on leaps and bounds in the last 6 months in particular.

Bent, Welbeck or worse than Welbeck, heskey and so many other shit comparisons. This one and "Tammy vs Rashford" thread is just hilarious, not for comparing them but for some of the posts who can't see the quality even if it smacks them in the head.
 
Spent 10 mins to read this thread and by god it is so painfully dramatic and knee jerky. The name calling is just so childish. And i see some of the people bashing Rashford in the thread had gone into hiding.
 
Rashford has both skill and fantastic attitude to improve. In fact his improvement from when he started out in 2016 has been immense. I never understand how people don't see that.. at current trajectory he can become a legend of the game.
 
This is one of the worst threads in United forum history. He never had a problem with his attitude, he was always one of our most hardworking players, it's really not rocket science that he's doing well with a much improved team.

As for the Darren Bent comparison - again a really stupid post but not really a surprise when you see the poster who made it.

Rashford has so far defeated the mighty Bent, Iheanacho and Jesus in the Rashford vs threads. I wonder who will be up next.

What always amused me is how triggered certain people on here and Twitter etc. were by the word “Rashy”

Ole doesn’t seem to use it much anymore but it was crazy how angry it made certain people (probably the same people who have Mourinho avatars on Twitter)

To be fair to the OP this thread was made at a time when we were playing very poorly and Rashford was one of our main men struggling to raise the team, so the question marks over him being a top player at that moment were justified. That said what is pointed out pretty quickly in the thread is that he was a 'young, unpolished' player who had a lot of the burden to score and to create/assist on his shoulders:

I think Rashford was a player promoted to being a first team regular a little too quickly by a manager who readily swung the axe on our squad but did not bring in replacements of anything like the required quality and temperament, meaning we didn't have the goalscorers from whom Rashford could learn and make a share of our goals nor crucially the creative players to set him up, meaning we were asking a Rashford just out of his teens to score goals and be one of our main creative players. It was a ridiculous ask, and one that led his status as a top player not only to be questioned but invited laughable comparisons with Bent, Agbonlahor and Welbeck.
 
Another example of how impossible it is to properly judge young players, especially under the circumstances surrounding United over the previous few years. Just goes to show the importance of trust and belief in a young players game is, something that both Rashford and Martial never got from Mourinho, but have from Ole.

A young player like Rashford, he knew under Mourinho he had to deliver or else he was under threat of being left out of the team. He now knows his place is secure, he's not trying to force things anymore. He's just playing his game, and its brilliant to watch.

In fairness, if he could play like prime Darren Bent consistently i.e. 18 PL goals a season I'd take that from the LW all day.

We're putting Rashford under ridiculous pressure, thanks to our terrible management and recruitment policies. While it doesn't help our chances right now if we keep wasting set pieces, it shows what a remarkable attitude he has at a mere 21 years of age that he backs himself every single time. He's faced racism, he lives in the era of toxic social media backslashes everytime he misses, and yet he gets his head down, stays humble and keeps believing in himself.

Feck bubbles. I fecking hope he succeeds big time and wins a bunch of silverware for us, because he has the talent, attitude and desire to do it.

His stats are amazing. Same goals and assists as Mane in the league, who is considered world class, but I think Rashford has played less minutes (not 100% on that).

Exactly. He also had to play for a long period of time without Martial, Pogba and we also didn't have Fernandes before the winter transfer window.

Considering the circumstances, Marcus has had a fantastic season, still more time to get 35+ goals and assists in all competitions, he is on 29 or 30, depending on which stats source you look at. That would be world class in my eyes.

Rashford at 21/22 years in the 19/20 season (so far):
22 goals, 11 assists in 3019 minutes of football - a goal every 137 minutes, and an assist every 274 minutes.

I'm not saying Dr. Rashford will win 5 Ballon D'ors, I'm saying he's a fecking gem of a player for his age.

Thank you. I think people are forgetting how young he still is. For an academy player of his age to be as productive with goals as he is at this point shows we have a gem in our hands.
 
he's been pulling us through sticky situations since his debut, there is the odd spell where he is quiet that every single player goes through. Bringing in more intelligent players like bruno will help him develop further, look to be a 1 club career man, missed having those guys around

He's absolutely fine. Maybe the publicity surrounding his campaign has got to him a bit. But he's still class
