Is it possible to add a "like" system for good or funny posts?

I'm gonna nip this one in the bud right now - no likes, no avatars, no signatures. That's been the policy on here since the beginning. Keep it simple, keep it clean. No extra cruft distracting from the content of each post.

Now go forth and  reply.

@LitterBug likes this post.

SpigotMC, which uses Xenforo too, has "Like" "Agree" Winner" "Funny" and more. (link)

I thought it looked ridiuclous at first, and it does, but it does manage to make you stop and look at a post that has a bunch of accolades

Where's the barf gif when you need it!

That kind of thing has value for some sites, but not this one :)

I like the multiple instances of . Laughing is contagious, even in emoti-form.
 yea but i got tired of doing  and this to every post that's funny or good.

I'm not sure but it might make the cafe a bit more cliquey. It's ok at the moment, but there have been times when it was very cliquey.
dont think it was ever cliquey but those newbie vs regular threads taking shots at the regulars were

There is no better feeling in the world when you get a bunch of 's.

Doesn't happen often. Usually by accident.

You bloody bastard. Give me my Bernard Bresslaw back.

I agree that it looks more professional without avatars. If i compare it to Arsenal Mania, it looks much better on here.

The Like thing, i dont know. A smiley or any sort of agreement express the same, dont know what benefit it would bring.

Avatars are crap. As are most memes. Its all pointless clutter that distract from posts in the football forums.

I liked Hectic's avatar but it looks horrible when everyone has one.

The like thing is a bit lame. Very Facebooky. Could be useful to just simply agree with someone but not worth it just for that. And there's nothing worse than when loads of someone's mates come in and like all of someone's posts when you're having a disagreement, which validates their argument even when they're not right.

Avatars are absolutely terrible. Never minded the few select ones that were around, as elitist as it seemed, as it gave us peasants some heroes to look up to. As soon as more people started to get them (albeit for a good cause, and temporarily) the forum started looking a lot lot worse, and it still was only a fraction of the posters. Glad it ended.

Likes are just pointless and lazy. Except, of course, when it's a mod liking one of my posts. It's so rare it actually feels kind of nice.

OK, I've been wondering about this so did a search and found this Likes?

And @Niall 's post below:

So is it only mods and staff that can give likes?

I swear I remember a few avatars like 5-6 years ago.

Mods used to have them and for a while people got them by donating to... I think it was Smashed Hombre's charity work thingy.

It's better without, I reckon.

I don't think the Caf is suited to a like system, I'd hate it. This place is all about discussion.

I think a "like" would be preferable to having the same long post or gif (I thought they were banned?) quoted multiple times. The poster of the "liked" content could get that warm fuzzy feeling of being appreciated without the thread being spammed a billion times with the same thing.

Where's the like button for this post so I can click it?

Can we not add a wider range of emoticons, including the 'like' thumb emoticon?

Or we could do what Wikipedia does - add the equivalent of a `thank` button, which will privately thank a poster for their post. This will ensure that appreciation is, in fact, shown to the poster; but at the same time it doesn't turn the issue into Facebook where the quality of a post starts being judged by the number of likes it's received.

I prefer the forum in this way,It's tidy and clean. My suggestion would be an "add" button to keep in the profile a list of my favorite posts, deciding if I want them to be visible to the others or not.

We use likes for managing Newbie promotions so they won't be used for post appreciation. I'm not a fan of that kind of thing anyway. Express your appreciation in words, like you would in real life :)

Agreed.

The emoticons do need a refresh although I love the classic ones we have here. Higher resolution versions would be great as they look poor on higher resolutions screens. It's not high up on my to-do list though.

As I posted above, not a huge fan of likes, thumbs up etc. I like things really simple in posts.

Well it is always about you and what you like isnt it?
ps think the original reasons against like buttons are on the money.

What the heck is the trophy stuff all about too btw?
