I like my darts - Buts lets be honest - It is not a sport.

On the basis that a darts player's heart rate may go above it's rest rate, I'd put it on a par with wanking and trading.... and neither of those are sports.

Not a sport and never will be.

Eeeh, there's ALOT of "games" that can or can't be sports, depending on who you ask.

Pub games take great skill to be professionals at them, and I myself would consider them sports, but I can see why one wouldn't.

Good thread Baz

The classic answer is if you can play it in normal shoes it's not a sport.

Snooker and Billiards takes great talent, like I said, pub games to me are sport because they require excellence in a field that many athletes need too.

Billiards/Snooker
Bowling
Darts

All sports to me

I've played football, american football, baseball, basketball, and tons of other sports in shoes.

Hockey seems to be the only one, but even then, there's road hockey.

It's more of a sport than horse racing which a lot of people on here count as a sport.

What about beer pong or "quarters"?

Any game where drinking alcohol is strongly suggested and sometimes required is not a sport. Billiards, darts, bowling, karaoke, Guitar Hero, flirting with the opposite sex, not sports.

I don't consider race car driving a sport either.

Chess, Bridge, Boules, Golf and Bowling are all recognised as sports by the IOC.

It's snobbery that Darts is not classed as one.

Its not a sport - That why....

Chess and Bridge are tactical games which demand much skill and expertise. Darts is not..... Its a pubgame - Like Pacman

Have some of that.

I don't mean to prey on the fat, but you know your fat when your watch strap is cutting off circulation to your hands. That thing looks like its about to fling off !

Jaysus Moore was light compared to some Front rows I even played... You could also add many American Footballers onto the list of fat people to grace the sporting arena...

As someone said - If you can play it in your shoes - Its not a sport... Don't get me wrong - Great entertainment on Sky - But that is all it is - A cross between X-factor and Leaders questions....

If anyone thinks Darts is a sport - they need their head examined. Would you say soggy biscuit was a team sport then?

Would those people saying that darts isn't a sport, would say shooting is a sport then?

Hold on - massive difference between hitting a target from 50 yards with a rifle or arrow then it is for a dart board....

wise up

I'd say Snooker is a sport, those who have played it and followed it avidly would know how hard it is for instance to make a century or 147... it takes an insane level of skill, composure, concentration.

Darts less so, but I can't see why pigeon clay shooting for instance is more of a sport when in essence it clearly only tests your hand eye co-ordination..though you could say it tests your reflexes as well to be fair, but still I wouldn't mind seeing Darts at the Olympics.. would be nice to see the PDC and BDO pitted against each other and for Britain to win a gold medal:p

, I'd put it on a par with wanking ... and neither of those are sports.

more to the point why isnt wanking a sport...

honestly if the darts was on or the womans freestyle wanking i know which one id watch... you could have individual wanking, team wanking, synchronised wanking, mixed wanking... judges giving points for orgasm faces...

Id sooner have that in the olympics rather than darts...

Not only is darts a sport but its about to become an Olympic Sport. The World Darts Federation began applying to the IOC many years ago and just last year was accepted as a sport by GAISF, the governing body for recognising sports worldwide. This was a pre-requisite for being accepted as an Olympic sport. Sport England recognised darts as a sport last year and 90% of the 67 countries who are members of the World Dart Federation have their government's Sports authorities recognising darts as a sport. Darts is favourite to become England's guest sport in the 2012 Olympics.
As in any sport to reach the highest level you have to be focused and practice on a daily basis.
In many countries, especially in the middle East and Asia, darts is not a pub sport but is held in many varied venues. Iran recently joined the WDF and has tens of thousands of young folk playing it throughout the country.
I am personally involved in the development of darts as a sport in the Americas and to date have 18 countries that now recognise darts as a sport in this region.
We have had to get round many Bazii in our efforts but its been worthwhile to see the enjoyment it gives to so many around the world.

Check this out

This is the WDF

The next World Cup is in Eire in 2011 at Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar, Co. Mayo.. You need to pay it a visit Baz and see the true sport in action.

Sports that are NOT sports

Snooker
Bowling
Curling
That ridiculous sport where you go on shooting targets whilst on skies in the woods
