I too went last night and thought the same , not a patch on the first film.
The end fight was over to quick.
You know there is going to be a 3rd and that prick Hammer is going to play a big part in it and also the Russian he did not die ,did he ?
Was disaponted there was not more AC/DC in there just tracks .
But all in all a good wayto kill a few hours .
7.5/10

He blew up!

Meh, it was ok. Scarlet's character was completely pointless. 6/10.

she is a real character from the comics, the whole point of the film is to start to integrate iron man with the avengers

Yep, it was sadly pretty shite but not for the reasons I thought it would be.

The chemistry between Stark and Pepper was non existent and by the end had really started to get on my tits.

The bad guys were weak as piss. It's like they just took the role played by Jeff Bridges in the first film and split him into 2 characters...and they end with basically just a rehash of the face off in the first film (which in itself was quite poor).

Other stupid plot points aside (oh my Dad's left me an abscure clue on how to create a potentially world saving new element) the whole thing was decidely 'meh'.

The one saving grace was Scarlett Johannsen who to be fair, looked absolutely stunning.

I think that's a bit harsh. It's a superhero movie and a pretty enjoyable one, I thought. The point about the new element you made was fair though, a bit too much of a stretch even in a film of this nature.

The other point about the similarity of the villains is the weakness of the Iron Man character from the comics. Most of his adversaries are simply other people (originally "evil commies") in powerful suits. The other main villain - The Mandarin - is a racial stereotype with magic rings.

I thought it was a great way to spend a couple of hours, to be honest. Not as good as the first, but again that's because of the fact that due to it's nature, this character generally retreads old ground.

That's fair enough but it doesn't bode well for the future of this franchise does it? There's only so many times you can watch a couple of guys in robot suits fire cgi rockets at each other. In my case it was once.

One of main issues with it was that the banter I enjoyed from the first film just came across as really forced this time out. There was a scene where Pepper was nagging Stark in her office where I actually yawned and looked at my watch. I think it was a weak script devoid of any real ideas. Which is a shame when you have a cast that includes Robert Downey Jr, Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke. Comic book film or not.

Not being a comic book geek - does Iron Man have any villains with genuine super powers? I'd have thought he would, it being a marvel character....? That might spice it up a bit.

I mean it's not like they've gone down the Nolan route of keeping it more feasible.

Well, there's the Mandarin. He doesn't have super powers, but he does have ten magic rings.

This is what happens when you organize the show around the set pieces - Ooh, we'll have a two-second fight on a raceway, a four minute fight inside his house (*wink-wink* self-destructive behaviour, we're so clever) and a fight in a Japanese garden! - because executives are very busy men and only have time to listen to your set piece proposals.

Exec: "Fight in a Japanese garden"? The Clash of the Titans script didn't have anything like that. Neither did The Hurt Locker. Sounds great, you've got your $200 million.

Rather shite film I thought - It has a great cast, Downey, Cheadle, Rourke, Rockwell.. but the script was just really weak...

Samuel L Jackson popped up in his usual role - Just there to act cool, same with Scarlette, hottest woman in the world she may be.. but she does have the talent to be more than just eye candy.

The chemistry between Pepper and Stark was non-existant... once again it was the script really... did anyone notice a connection between them? I didn't, they just seemed like two friends who yelled at each other a lot.

I guess I'm just not really an Iron Man fan, Starks character despite been played with great charisma by Downey is plain annoying. The whole thing just felt like it was trying to be a fireworks show and had little depth, and I know... it's a Superhero film, it's there to be flashy and wow you with the big fight sequences, but I guess that's the problem - It didn't impress me at all on a visual level like say - Transformers/Avatar - So all that's left is a mediocre plot with unimpressive visuals that's only real saving grace is that the cast was so damn good.
