IPL 2023

Early shout for Sam Curran being the next England white ball captain

Rahul is a disgrace as a leader and as a striker. KL Maguire type of performance.

KKR were destroyed today, Rahane transformed into a competent T20 player. CSK looks like a machine although their bowling needs a bit of work. Punjab, Sunrisers and KKR to miss out on playoffs from the early looks. RR and LSG are prone to brain farts.

That was an enjoyable watch again, another 200+ run chase successful. Feel for the losing teams after putting up such a total, but amazing chases nonetheless. 1000th IPL to boot.

Absolutely no fan engagement from the LSG franchise in the city of Lucknow.
Interesting, you'd think they'd do better considering they've spent a feck load to get the franchise and have a huge untapped market there.

I had to double check if it's actually RCB at home!

Unbelievable defense from DC tonight and against GT no less. Stunning result. Was fully expecting GT to win it, but wow, the upsets are crazy.
We've had our power off, but just assumed GT would be cruising to victory so didn't even bother following online as i usually do. Wow. RCB defending a meagre total the weekend and now DC doing the same against the mighty GT. Throws the battle for the playoffs wide open again, albeit GT with a very healthy NRR over the rest (before today anyway).

I have seen only a few games but tracking the scores.. the table doesn't gel with my intuition of how the season's going at all. Rajasthan, Lucknow, CSK seemed the best teams but on paper they're tied with each other and RCB, Punjab, potentially Mumbai.

Will make for a good last third of fixtures coming up.

I've watched almost all and it's quite an interesting season. Lots of unexpected twists and turns
GT still look like the team to beat and were very unlucky in some of their losses.
CSK has improved vastly since last season, where RR has not really been as good as last season, particularly Buttler hasn't really got going.
Lucknow has definitely got better so much so they don't have space to include de Kock in the line up

RCB has great entertaining games but they almost like Spurs in that they can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, you never know which team is going to pitch up.

Mumbai are also one of those, giant slayers one day, then lose against DC or something like that.

KKR, PBKS and SRH are you average teams that come close to but never quite can reach the playoffs.

DC well, they having the poorest of the seasons, even worse than last you would say. Despite taking the win against GT yesterday. Let's see how the progress but if their main guys don't step up more, it's going to be bad.

Is the IPL popular in South Africa where you are?

I'm not sure, really I just know I enjoy following it. @Ish on here is also from South Africa.
I think it’s fairly popular, IMO. Possibly a combination of having a decent sized cricket following/community, Saffers playing in the IPL, a decent sized Indian community, and then some.

Our national broadcaster, SuperSport almost didn’t agree on the rights for this season of the IPL and I think there was a last minute uproar and somehow we managed to get the viewing rights for the tournament. So yeah, I’ve followed it every season basically (& remember attending a few matches when we hosted it ) so I think it’s decently followed around here. @zing

Thanks @Ish yeah I was pissed when I saw SS didn't initially have the broadcasting rights but then they started showing it so figured they sorted it out.
I agree that our Saffer players is what initially drew me in at first, but before I only used to watch Protea games and didn't really care much for watching cricket that didn't involve us, but with the IPL that's changed, I enjoy the game itself, regardless of who plays in it.

Yeah spot on. Funny that, as we were probably losing interest in domestic cricket (suffering the same fate as rugby with lack of investment), the IPL popped up and probably pulled us back into cricket a bit. Admittedly I watch some BBL as well (but time differences I don’t watch it as regularly) and went to 3 matches at inaugural SA IPL this summer past

Gill and Jaisawal look like young Indian batsman have clocked that there’s no such thing as an ‘anchor’ in T20.

Jaiswal agreed that it was his mistake and the single was not on. "First of fall, I'd like to mention that I get to learn a lot from Jos Bhai. Unfortunately, it was because of my wrong that he had to sacrifice his wicket, I really respect that. We all know it (run out) happens in the game, nobody does it on purpose," Jaiswal said after winning Player of the Match.

Jaiswal comes across well in interviews. I also find his communication in English incredible given his background.

I want RR to be in top 4 but feel that loss to SRH has killed their chances.

Kohli, hits a six to get a 100 then of course gets out next ball

Was too close for comfort there for LSG.

Not sure who gets that 4th spot, RCB should be favourites but they face GT, and if they lose bad it could bring RR into the equation with NRR.
MI would have to win by a massive margin and hope that RCB lose big as well to have a sniff.
I think all 3 end on 14 and RCB sneaks it on NRR.

So RCB win and they through. Just like them to bottle it at this stage.
MI got the job done in style, Green with a beautiful centurion knock!

Its hard to see RCB win against GT despite being at home.
I'd be fine with either MI or RCB go through and play against LSG.

Rain could take it out of RCBs hands though..
